A restaurant embracing the history of Detroit's industrial reach. The cinder block building that housed neighborhood fare for decades has received new life to further the tradition of hand-made, thought-out food and beverage.
Expect personal service, handwritten menus, and a fresh, comfortable atmosphere. Food and beverage selections rotate with the seasons and availability of local farm products, with no set menu. Everything is handmade from scratch, with fresh, ethical ingredients from Chef Rigato’s extensive network of farms, butchers and foragers.
This place is absolutely fabulous each and every time. The service whether I’m sitting at the bar or at a table is on point and authentic. 👏🏻
We each did the “Tasting Menu” and “Beverage pairing”. I highly recommend that! It was a surprising, pleasant dining experience with a variety of tastes/textures to expand your horizons. It was an 8 course meal with 8 different wines, champagnes, or liquors. The dishes and pairings were so purposeful and intriguing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and were excited to see what we were going to indulge in next. You definitely need to have an open mind and adventurous spirit to truly get the most of it. Like the other reviews I have read...you will not be disappointed.
All around, OUTSTANDING!! The food has layers and layers of flavor. If have a good palate(not meat and potatoes), you should try the tasting menu.
I love that Mabel Gray provides a unique dining experience, its a small place with a big heart, talented and caring staff, and runs smoothly.
Always outstanding, simply love this place. My favorite restaurant hands down.
Certainly one of the top 3 best restaurants in Detroit area, if not the best!
The only downside is it’s hard to get a reservation, but the other side of that is it’s small size guarantees great service and food that is perfectly prepared and served.
The menu changes daily depending upon what is fresh, so you may not have a chance to reorder a fav months later. But it’s replacement will be as good or better!
Mabel Grey is Great!
Amazing service and tasting menu per usual.
Went with two friends. Instead of getting the tasting menu, we ordered 5 items to share. Each course was exceptional. Flavors and textures were perfect. The avocado toast with fried soft shell crab was so good. Our server was very attentive and helpful. I can’t wait to go back again!
The decor and menu are a bit eccentric, but the quality of the food and friendliness of the waitstaff make this one of the top 10 restaurants in metro Detroit.
Excellent service and phenomenal food. The staff is knowledgeable and polite.
Singularly amazing. The tasting menu is such a good value and so mind blowingly good! We loved the first course oyster duo that I ordered a second round for the table. The service is perfect! Everyone knows their product and creates a warm experience. Getting a reservation is sometimes tough, but I'll keep coming back. A restaurant worth travelling to (even at 9 on a Tuesday, if that's all that is available).
Amazing! Every time it’s just always amazing. Honestly best food I’ve ever had.
Amazing experience! We both had the tasting menu and ordered our choice of drinks instead of the wine pairing option and did not regret it. From start to finish everything was perfect. Each item we had, especially the lamb tartare, were Al amazing. Restaurant itself is located next to Frame (which is also a great restaurant) at a non busy road and at a city you wouldn’t think would have this type of restaurant— who would have thought! The waitstaff, the presentation, the ambiance, and the noise level were perfect. Our waitstaff was very well informed and food came at the right moment. Each food item were made and presented perfectly. I was able to have a conversation with the person I went with, without having to scream at each other and most importantly the restaurant wasn’t dark but it still remained cozy and romantic. I would definitely come here again. If I could I would come here weekly just to eat their new tasting menu each week.
Amazing meal. Terrific service. Interesting wine pairings. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. I’ll definitely go back, just wish it was easier to get a reservation.
Place is awesome. From the food down to the service, everything was on point. The lamb tartare was something to be remembered. I hope it’s on the menu in the future. The lemon bar for desert was rich and sweet. Perfect ending to a medium rare Wagyu strip. Great meal.
Loved our recent experience at Mabel Gray! The staff and service were impeccable. They were available without being intrusive and were extremely knowledgeable. We chose the chefs tasting menu and I added the wine pairings. The courses were unique, presented well, and delicious. We did add an extra course to the tasting menu. The portions for each course are smaller but at the end of the meal we were full. I can’t wait for our next visit!
BEST restaurant in the Detroit area thus far! Will definitely be back!!!
Tasting Menu is the best way to go and is absolutely delicious.
Due to the rotating menu and having to make reservations a month in advance, there were very few vegetarian options that night I had picked. Service was very attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. The decor was inconsistent from the mix matched flatware, cups, and plates to the sexist art in the men’s single stall restroom. This resulted in a mix matched experience where the ambience didn’t match the price of the food leaving me feeling that the whole experience was overpriced even if the food was valued correctly.
Marc Anthony was awesome waiter!!
My boyfriend goes here all the time and this is my second time eating here. We had half of the menu this time and we were in ecstasy the whole time. Easily the best meal in the area!
Excellent food, great that the menu is so seasonal.
The tasting menu was a wonderful introduction to Mabel Gray.
Food blew me away again. We loved it
Service and food were outstanding as always. Every time we come you hit it out of the park.
The tasting menu is the way to go. I went with the pairing menu and didn't regret anything. Outstanding experience.
this is our 2nd visit and we look forward to our next! We tried tasting menu both times and were not disappointed either time!
Wonderful experience! We had the tasting menu with the pairings and it was fabulous. We come to this restaurant to celebrate special occasions and it never disappoints.
Max our waiter was outstanding! We actually asked him if we could request him if we eat there again! Everyone there was super friendly and the food was out of this world!!
Always a great meal!
Hadn’t been back in about two years since I moved. Best dining experience in Michigan.
Our first visit to Mabel Gray and it is definitely worthy of all the outstanding reviews.
Tasting menu by James Rigatoni’s was fantastic and it was expertly presented by Adrianne our server! Superb evening.
Fantastic staff, the food and wine pairings were outstanding!
After eating at this restaurant, I looked at previous reviews to see how our experience compared to others. I agree that the food offered with the chef’s choice was excellent. The advantage we had was that we booked the first seating at 5:00. That way, we didn’t have to wait for a table. This seems to be the only negative that people have commented about-occasional long waits for reserved tables.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. We live in the Chicago area and I’m sure we would have paid much more for the experience there. I recommend the 5:00 seating. We will be back!
Love the farm to table and evolving in season menu. Service, atmosphere, ambience and food were all great. Highly recommend it
Awesome all around! Food is so delicious, it made me a bit emo lol! Will def be back soon!
Drove from Kalamazoo and would do it over and over again
Mabel Gray is the gold standard for creative food, excellent bartending or paired wines, and excellent service.
the restaurant had a great vibe. Cool and interesting. Food was delicious, exciting and different. Would go back anytime
