Great food and service, we have a great night.
The food and service was outstanding. We ordered the tasting menu and our preferences was accommodated.
Convenient parking. Liked herbs from their garden. Friendly attentive service . Delicious sauces. Artistic presentation.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish. Perfect food and wine pairings. So fresh! Love love loved it. Highly recommend it!
Wow! In the past, I had been hesitant to go to Chef Mavro's flagship restaurant due to inconsistent reviews. But my wife loves French food, and we were in town for only one night. Everything was amazing. The restaurant has carpeted floors and columns between tables that break up the sound and keep things more quiet. This restaurant looks as if it were designed with acoustics in mind. The decor is somewhat 1980s, but is tastefully done. There were no tablecloths on the tables. No bread was served with the meal.
We ordered the 5-course tasting menu. Everything we tasted had subtle, yet complex, and amazing flavors. Each dish had sauces or creams and multiple tasting delights. I'm no food critic, but this was one of the very best meals I've ever had. For me, the foie gras mousse was a bit on the salty/strong side, but my wife, who's had it many times, loved it. The catch of the day was a white fish (ahi?) served in an amazing sauce with caviar. The beef was A5 Wagyu from Japan. We found out if you get the Wagyu on the a la carte menu, it's not A5, and is from Oregon (Wagyu cattle were imported to the USA from Japan in the 1970s). The dessert was amazing.
The only disappointment was the double-shot of decaf espresso, which my wife ordered, but didn't finish. It was pretty bad, although I finished it.
The service was impeccable. The wine pairings were spot on, and amazing. Overall, I'd give this one 4.95 stars if I could. Highly recommended!
Chef Mavro is the finest restaurant in all of Hawaii. You must have the Chef's Menu with a wine pairing. If they have Truffles available have them!!
I have never written a restaurant review in my life but was so disappointed by my dining experience, I felt compelled to share. I had made a reservation at 8p for my last night in Waikiki (Saturday). I had hoped it would be a good dining experience based on the cost and prior reviews. Suffice it to say, I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. We ordered the tasting menu (no wine pairings) and each course took about 20+ min to come out after our table was cleared from the previous course. The server kept saying "thanks so much for waiting" with each course, reminding us that we had no choice but to continue waiting through the set menu. The servers were all very kind but did a poor job of explaining the dishes. The food itself was NOT worth the money. The salad was overly simple (pretty sure the “dressing” was a green breakfast smoothie), the poached egg was a bunch of flavors blended together that shouldn’t have been, the fish was overcooked, and the beef just tasted like fat. I will give them credit that the desserts (banana with chocolate cake and strawberry with ice cream) were quite good. Overall it was nowhere near worth the $125 per person charge. The price to quality ratio simply wasn't there...this was definitely NOT fine dining. I was also surprised to see them charge $10 for bread and butter service, when they simply asked "will you be enjoying bread tonight?" on a prix fixe menu. The chef did not come out (as many others said he did during their meal), so perhaps he was not working that night and therefore the lackluster food, but for that much money in Waikiki, there's no excuse for the poor quality food and would recommend you choose one of many other places that are SO much better. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Our meal at the Chef Mavro restaurant rivaled, if not surpassed, a three-Michelin star meal I had in Paris several years ago. We both ordered the tasting menu, and I added on the wine pairing and extra truffles (which I added to the banana dessert, which if you like truffles DO IT!!!). Every bite of food was heavenly, and the wine was expertly chosen and curated for each course served. I'd take a sip of wine before trying the food, then have my last sip with my last bite. It was incredible. I seriously cannot stop gushing about it to anyone who asks. This is definitely a special place, and well worth the cost. My boyfriend and I will be dreaming about the food we ate here for years to come. <3
We found ourselves back in Hawaii for our 15th anniversary, after honeymooning here on the North Shore. Indulged in the tasting menu. Not disappointed. Absolutely excellent. Food, service, drinks, everything. Highly recommend.
The food was decent but not worth the price. The service was attentive but the pace of food from the kitchen was so, so, so slow. If we were aware that each course of the 5 course tasting menu would come out 30 minutes apart, I’m sure we would have ordered a la carte.
Food and experience was excellent! Can’t wait to return!
Celebration for 40th wedding anniversary
nice servers, but average food, very slow food service.
Great ambiance and good service. The mushroom appetizer was outstanding. However my husband’s beef was the actual end of a tri tip and only half of it was anywhere close to the chef-recommended medium rare. He didn’t finish the well done pieces. Disappointing because the chef came out and poured the sauce over it so he saw it. The sauce was outstanding though. Fish was very tender but sides were a bit lackluster. The banana dessert was very rich. Appreciated that they recognized our special occasion with a special dessert. Thai basil mocktail was delicious and refreshing.
Wonderful dining experience. The chef’s tasting menu was unique, balanced and delicious. The service was excellent.
Chef's table is an excellent choice to sample the best foods the restaurant has to offer.
The staff and even the owner were very polite and professional. They even made an out of towner like me and my wife feel right at home!
Excellent tasting menu. The wine pairing was deeply disappointing. The choices of desserts was off putting-either a banana- or strawberry- based dessert. The banana had a tiny chocolate cake on a bed of banana puree or pudding. I had requested in advance a dark chocolate option but this request was not entertained, so I ordered the banana dessert . It was truly dreadful and had an acerbic taste which really undermined the entire meal. The wines were also highly unimpressive. I ordered a glass of a cab merlot blend off the menu to match with the wonderful wagyu beef and that wine was lovely. All in all, it was not what I would expect from a fine dining level restaurant.
Classy, delicious. Much more than we expected.
Wonderful dinner and the tasting menu was very unique and delicious! They grow some of their own greens at the restaurant too. Every staff member is passionate about their creations and each plate and drink is thoughtfully crafted!
We picked M by Chef Mavro for our final night in Honolulu and to celebrate Father’s Day! It was the cherry on the pie! The food was divine! Highly recommend this gem!
My friend and I both had a wonderful time again at this restaurant. Everything is perfect from the moment you open the door till you leave the restaurant. I will definitely come back again soon.
Everything was beautifully presented. The creator of the mixed drinks came out and explained to us and how he created them, then a somalíes told us what wines would pair best with our entree. The food was so delicious and the complex flavors made it a real treat. The Chef came out to pour the sauce over my lamb. It was fun to meet the chef. We enjoyed every minute.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about every dish and the bartender even discussed his thought process in the drinks he created - which were outstanding. A great experience for our entire party.
Delicious and unique, well thought out menu.
Wonderful! A worthy leader among Oahu’s fine dining.
As folks who travel quite a lot and enjoy foods and wines Worldwide, this was a great find. Chef Marvo is gone and his Executive Chef is now leading the show. Excellent ingredients and preparations offering differing experiences in your mouth and palate. Highly recommend this restaurant during your Honolulu travels
Jeremy Shigekane is cooking sophisticated food, executed with confidence.
Some of the best food and service I have had. Would recommend to anyone.
Great time and amazing food!!
Super intimate experience, got explanation about the cocktails from the bartender and about the all the courses from the chef! Awesome experience
One of a kind dining experience! You can tell they put a lot of time and thought into every dish! The whole staff and chef were so nice!! So delish!! Must get the banana dessert!
The portions are tiny but exquisite and leave one waiting for the next. This is not a place to get stuffed, but to appreciate what can be done with the best of Hawaii's food. We did not go away hungry, but happy and satisfied.
We came in for a Thursdate and everything was excellent
Looking forward to coming back
Great spot. Food was really tasty.
Too expensive for what it is! The vegetarian menu was a poor replacement of the actual menu (instead of replacing the meat sauce for a different sauce, they just took out the sauce from the dish entirely, making it super dry and bland). Similarly, the other courses on the tasting menu were also pretty bland. I wouldn't care so much if I had ordered a la carte, but annoyed because I grossly overpaid for a pretty mediocre experience (being able to replace the tasting menu dishes with vegetarian options that taste equally good should be the expectation if we are paying so much money!)
Staff was super sweet though, and the cocktails were amazing.
I forgot to take my sunglasses on the table .Hope I can get it back -Thanks
I’ve eaten here every time when visiting Oahu. Didn’t realize that Chef Mavro actually retired. Food was not as good as I remembered, but still above average. Desert not so good. Mixologist is a pro. Enjoyed the meal but had better elsewhere
Unbelievable service and food! Walked us out in an umbrella when it rained after! Truly a perfect ending to our honeymoon!
This is THE BEST RESTAURANT in Oahu. Food was amazing. Their Lamb is 1000 times better then Hy’s. And this mocktails are so tasty ( no concentrate or syrups ).
French Hawaiian taken to a perfect fusion.
Everything was amazing
