M & S Grill - Reston Ratings and Reviews
We were very appreciative of the restaurant honoring veterans. Between my husband and I we served for 42 years total. The food was great. I have a concern about our bill. Our receipt shows $27.77. The receipt does not show a place for a tip. We left a $5.00 cash tip. (Table 123/1 reprint receipt # 100223. The amount that appeared on our bank record was $ 37.77. Right now I'm confused. Always check your bill and make sure you have the receipt that shows the tip line.
M&S grill offers Veteran’s lunch one day a year around Veterans Day. There is a special menu list for this meal. We go every year. We go here when we are in the Reston Town Center.
I don’t drink beer but others in my party did and they found beers they like.
The staff are very friendly and efficient. I like how they say “my pleasure” whenever you ask for something. It’s kind of old fashioned but it’s such a nice touch.
The manager passed out post cards to fill out. He collected them at the end of the meal and is going to send them to veterans in hospitals.
This is a great place if you are a picky eater or have allergies. They will adapt for you.
Service was horrible. Waitress dumped an entire tray of drinks on my business guests and then dropped dirty silver on same guest. She apologized for the error but offer was made to guest to comp drink/offer dry cleaning was not made. Food was very good but wait staff was incompetent.
M&S Grill has a patio cigar bar right outside the front door. Not only do you have to walk through a fog of smoke to enter the restaurant, but the smoke permeates the entire restaurant. Unless you prefer to dine while inhaling second hand smoke, mediocre service, and mediocre food, you should go elsewhere.
This was the beginning of a fairly terrible date night. Restaurant was empty, but this is Wednesday so I wasn't exactly expecting it to be packed. We began the night with a rather gritty, luke warm lobster bisque - very underwhelming considering our previous visit in April was significantly better. The few other tables around us received the typical welcome bread, which we did not. The one order of Tender Beef Medallions was not cooked as we ordered, and by the time the corrected order came out, the my husband had finished his meal. It's very awkward to watch someone eat while twiddling my thumbs. The kitchen area looks very poorly lit, maybe this contributed to being unable to understand a meats cooking level. Moving on to dessert, I will NOT order the Chocolate Molten Cake again, I recommend the same for anyone reading this. If a typical molten/lava cake is microwaved from frozen for about 3 - 4 minutes, this had seen well over 10. It was very solid, a little difficult to pierce with the spoon, and cold. From start to finish, the entire 'experience' took about an hour and a half, for a restaurant that was dead. Our server had a fun personality, but with the speed of service and quality, we will not be back. After reading some of the reviews on here, it's clear that this is becoming a trend for M & S.
Waitress was new and clueless. Had to ask 3 or 4 times for straws, twice for sweeteners, she didn't check back to see how we were doing or if she get us anything until we were done, couldn't figure out how to give an AARP discount, gave us check without it and had to get manager, to re-do, etc.
The service was fine and the ambience very pleasant. The problem was the food: the beef medallions were very rare not medium, which was ordered; and the T-bone steak was well done not medium, which was ordered. Both were palatable and not worth re-ordering, but for the money I expect things to be correct, especially as the restaurant was not busy.
I would not recommend this restaurant. Over the past 10 years, particularly after being acquired by Darden, it has just gradually declined to a mediocre experience. I continue to go there, only because it's usually quiet enough to dine with clients. If it gets to noisy, I'll stop coming all together.
But the worst: please don't have my waiter pitch me your 'frequent diner' club card. It's very tacky, and classless.
I enjoyed my meal very much. I was promptly seated at my reservation time. Service was friendly and courteous. The food was served quickly. I was there for the free armed services meal on Memorial Day and I was treated with honor and thanked for my past service.
I've had brunch here a couple of times and loved it. I also had a couple of great happy hour bites. Dinner on Saturday night, however, was a bit disappointing. I went with my daughter as our Mother's Day celebration. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. It took a very long time for our entree orders to come. So long that the waiter stopped by to say they should be up very soon. It was not that crowded, so I'm not sure what the problem was. I ordered the crabcake with Chesapeake fries. What a disappointment from the crispness standpoint. Neither one had a crisp outer layer. The crabcake wasn't browned very much. The fries were actually limp. The explanation for that was that they're sprinkled with malt vinegar and seasoning after they're fried. Perhaps that should have been mentioned in the menu? I've had similar fries elsehwere that still were crisp. I think it may have been an off night for the chef. I'll go back for brunch and happy hour, but I think I'll skip dinner.
