Lupo Verde - 14th St
While making your reservation please be aware that the restaurant provides seating on two floors. On the first floor we have high top tables which are community style seating for small groups or individual large party tables. The upstairs floor is a traditional dining room. Please let us know if you have a preference on where would you like to be seated when making your reservation. We will do our best to honor your request depending on availability of tables.
This is my second time at Lupo Verde and both visits were really good. The steak tartar is a must have. The pastas according to my colleague were also great. I had the sword fish which was awesome. Wine list is heavily Italian, reasonable and good. Overall, it’s excellent.
Delicious brunch - great service. Will come back next time we visit DC
Having been a fan and patron since opening, we had not dined at Lupo for about one year. Our experience showed that some elements of the experience have changed. First, menu options have decreased and, to our surprise, Prosecco is not longer available. Our server suggested Brut as a “better” option. Strangely, one of the cocktails included Prosecco as a main ingredient. Second, our server was not conversant in Italian cuisine as all were trained during the early days. While we enjoyed our evening we gave considerable thought to reserving a table at their Palisades restaurant in hopes that standards are higher there. It’s clear oversight has been reduced since the owners have expanded their investment horizons elsewhere.
Great food and great service!! Can’t wait to come back!
The wine was overpriced
Great place to visit when you are in Washington DC.
Great food, great service including excellent wine suggestion from the waiter and very nice setting.
Will definitely come here again next time I’m in the area.
A great authentic place. The ambiance is perfect for special nights. The Gellato is delicious and the donut dessert is the icing on everything. Great Stff, the GM is awesome, very friendly.
The staff was great and happy. And the food was phenomenal loved the fried artichoke and the burrata.. also the handmade pesto pasta was lovely.. Thankyou
We had the special rabbit lasagna with truffles. Pricy but fantastic. I’ve eaten here about 7 times and have always had a great meal. Excellent service also makes the whole evening special.
Celebrating a job offer. Service and food and drinks were all amazing as always.
Food is delicious I just wish the portion size was bigger! Still one of my favorite spots in DC
A splendid pre theatre spot. Our waiter and bartender kept an eye on us with excellent recommendations.
The food was outstanding! All the homemade pasta was perfectly prepared. The flavors in the various dishes were very well balanced. The salumi app with panzanella was excellent. We are admitted food snobs but this experience exceeded expectations! We loved the setting in the townhouse with the exposed brick; a great rustic setting. The speciality cocktail was excellent and dessert out of this world!! The bill for 4 was just over $200, so not bad at all.
There was large piece of hard plastic in my salad... and I bit into it! They brought me a new dish but was surprised the manager / wait staff didn’t knock something off my bill. Restaurant is too nice for that to fly.
Wonderful food, very reminiscent of dining in Italy. My husband loved his pasta with the braised ribs and I the pasta sampler. Frequently we order grilled pulpo but Lupo Verde’s was the best we’ve had in the DC area. We live in Navy Yard and will make it across the city for another meal at your restaurant. Thanks for a lovely meal.
Hmmm. Been coming here every other weekend for a while. Was my favorite brunch spot. The recent trip leaves me to think something is up...the food quality was slightly off and the bar tender / server was rude as hell. I always order the same exact dish and the last trip he told me my substitution was not possible. Okay great I’ve only order it every other weekend for 8 months. Fine...Hold the dam salad off my plate (allergic time arugula) and charge me an up charge for my substitution. I don’t care. Don’t come back and say it’s not allowed. It is most definitely allowed it’s just you don’t want to key it in. Not sure I want to return now. Rude. Just plain rude. My partners food (salad) was not even Dressed. The chicken parm was cold and the potatoes were clearly sitting under a heat lamp. Sad. Come on. I’m Italian...and my mother would slap you for your food quality.
We love Lupo Verde, but had never been there on a Saturday night before. What we encountered was poor service (for example, 25 minutes between being seated and taking our orders - and only after we flagged down the waiter) and — how do I put this — some quality control issues. Specifically, my wife found a one inch stone in her seafood pasta. Yes: a large rock.
The waiter brought the manager, who apologized and offered to bring her another entree — but I pointed out that she was 90% finished, and the rest of us had finished out entrees also. He then took her plate and walked away without saying anything else. We didn’t realize until after we asked for the check that he had taken her entree off the check, along with our coffees and one tiramisu.
So in the end we felt that his response was fair, his communication was mostly absent, and I imagine we will only go back to LV on quieter nights (because the food really is very, very good when there are no stones in it).
My husband and I came in on a Monday night because of a guest chef, Federica Continanza, from Italy. The food was fantastic and she was charming. Our waiter, Joe, was also terrific. I always enjoy Lupo but this was an especially good night.
A great place for brunch with friends or family! The food was delicious and the service was great as well. Would recommend the carbonara pasta. We went with the social brunch option, which was a lot of food!
I made a mistake on my reservation, but the were able to accommodate us with no problems. Food is always great, and the service impeccable!
I found the food, service and atmosphere to be excellent. The preparation of the steak tartare was unique and excellent. Overall a very good experience.
Despite the delicious cocktails, the bland food and poor service overpowered our experience.
Even with a brunch reservation on a day that the restaurant was half full, we waited 20 minutes at the bar to get a drink and 30 minutes to get seated at our table. When we were seated, we were escorted to a table that had been open the whole time. We waited another 15 minutes to get bread at our table. When the food arrived, unfortunately, my pasta was bland.
Lupo Verde used to be a gem in the neighborhood and place that I would take all out of town guests. This is the second time that Lupo has been disappointing, and will be my last.
Delicious, charming ambience
Lupo is such a cute spot! Service was great, as per usual. After several recent meals at staple dc Italian spots like red hen and Centrolina, it’s apparent that Lupo Verde just can’t quite compete. Would definitely recommend the pastas over the seafood options - I had the branzino and was disappointed by my choice
Tony was outstanding in his service at our table, he was knowledgeable about both the food and wine pairings. Highly recommend!
Very good experience overall, great food. We ordered the grilled calamari, cacio de Pepe and Ragu. 10/10 would come back for the same dishes. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Only negative is the host/hostess. They are very disorganized and even if you have a reservation you can wait up to 20 minutes or so. They also ask you if you want to sit outside with blankets (weather was 45F when we went at night). They also said they would text when a table is ready, but never received.
Excellent food in a great spot
Overall, our dining experience was OK but was very overpriced for the quality of the food received.
Had a fantastic dinner there with my Mom. We had a very attentive server and the food was delicious! Love the ambiance!
Lupo Verde is constantly running late with reservations. I got a text saying my table was ready 10 minutes before the reservation time; then I checked in with the host and it wasn't ready. All told, we were seated ten minutes AFTER our reservation time.
We had been looking forward to coming to Lupo for a long time and unfortunately we’re kind of disappointed. Food wasn’t hot and portions were rather small for the price (at least the pasta dishes). Maybe it was just an off night but none of us were particularly impressed. Love the atmosphere and the decor though, really cute spot.
We started with a burrata app that was good but not great, not as creamy as it maybe could’ve been. My brother and I ordered the porterhouse steak to split - it was underwhelming. For such an expensive steak it was poorly cooked. The steak was not evenly cooked and wasn’t hot when served. We also got the cacio e pepe and was disappointed, the pasta was too chewy and not very flavorful. Probably won’t be back anytime soon.
I used to go often and thought it was great. I believe the last time I went was mid-July. This time is was a big disappointment. All pasta dishes we had were served in watery sauces with little taste. In fact, they were not sauces of any sort. The fregola was just a mix of mayo with no taste. Quality of the meals was terrible and certainly well below what you’d expect for the price you pay.
Service was okay.
"The Italians Are Coming!" read the T-shirts worn by food runners and busters at Lupo Verde. When the restaurant first opened a few years ago, the establishment did indeed have a distinct Italian vibe. Since then, however, much of the original staff has either dispersed to new Lupo Verde branches or decamped; the ambience now seems more reminiscent of its neighbors on 14th St. than an Italian trattoria. Nevertheless, whoever is currently preparing the food continues to do a very good job: pasta dishes in particular shine, tasting far more reminiscent of Italy than New Jersey. (On the other hand, the donut balls I had for dessert were a bit on the heavy side.) The upstairs dining room remains charming, and especially during the early evening, has the advantage of not being noisy.
The reviews sounded great, which is why we picked it. Maybe we just caught it on a bad night but, our experience was lacking anything special and bordered on being annoying...our server did almost nothing to engage us or explain the menu or the specials. When we travel, we always look forward to learning about local restaurants and their specialties...our server just told us..."it's all good". We actually didn't find that to be true. And when he picked up my plate of my barely touched overcooked Mediterranean sea bass he had no interest in discovering why...annoying. We wouldn't go back nor recommend it - but, like I say - maybe it was just an off night because it sure was packed!
Nice neighborhood experience as we dined outside. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and we were pleased with the food and service.
Went for my cousin's birthday and the staff made everything such a wonderful experience. The chef Nacho Olivera came out and introduced himself to my cousin who's a foodie and made her birthday dinner even more memorable.
Had my birthday dinner at Lupo verde and it was fabulous. Food was amazing, service excellent, and the overall value was great. They even gave me a dessert on the house. Will definitely be coming back soon.
Always reliable - good food in a pleasant environment. DIning room is accessed via a pretty but tricky spiral staircase - not accessible for many but well worth the climb if you can.
