Lupo Verde - 14th St
While making your reservation please be aware that the restaurant provides seating on two floors. On the first floor we have high top tables which are community style seating for small groups or individual large party tables. The upstairs floor is a traditional dining room. Please let us know if you have a preference on where would you like to be seated when making your reservation. We will do our best to honor your request depending on availability of tables.
Lupo is such a cute spot! Service was great, as per usual. After several recent meals at staple dc Italian spots like red hen and Centrolina, it’s apparent that Lupo Verde just can’t quite compete. Would definitely recommend the pastas over the seafood options - I had the branzino and was disappointed by my choice
Tony was outstanding in his service at our table, he was knowledgeable about both the food and wine pairings. Highly recommend!
Very good experience overall, great food. We ordered the grilled calamari, cacio de Pepe and Ragu. 10/10 would come back for the same dishes. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Only negative is the host/hostess. They are very disorganized and even if you have a reservation you can wait up to 20 minutes or so. They also ask you if you want to sit outside with blankets (weather was 45F when we went at night). They also said they would text when a table is ready, but never received.
Overall, our dining experience was OK but was very overpriced for the quality of the food received.
Had a fantastic dinner there with my Mom. We had a very attentive server and the food was delicious! Love the ambiance!
Lupo Verde is constantly running late with reservations. I got a text saying my table was ready 10 minutes before the reservation time; then I checked in with the host and it wasn't ready. All told, we were seated ten minutes AFTER our reservation time.
We had been looking forward to coming to Lupo for a long time and unfortunately we’re kind of disappointed. Food wasn’t hot and portions were rather small for the price (at least the pasta dishes). Maybe it was just an off night but none of us were particularly impressed. Love the atmosphere and the decor though, really cute spot.
We started with a burrata app that was good but not great, not as creamy as it maybe could’ve been. My brother and I ordered the porterhouse steak to split - it was underwhelming. For such an expensive steak it was poorly cooked. The steak was not evenly cooked and wasn’t hot when served. We also got the cacio e pepe and was disappointed, the pasta was too chewy and not very flavorful. Probably won’t be back anytime soon.
I used to go often and thought it was great. I believe the last time I went was mid-July. This time is was a big disappointment. All pasta dishes we had were served in watery sauces with little taste. In fact, they were not sauces of any sort. The fregola was just a mix of mayo with no taste. Quality of the meals was terrible and certainly well below what you’d expect for the price you pay.
Service was okay.
"The Italians Are Coming!" read the T-shirts worn by food runners and busters at Lupo Verde. When the restaurant first opened a few years ago, the establishment did indeed have a distinct Italian vibe. Since then, however, much of the original staff has either dispersed to new Lupo Verde branches or decamped; the ambience now seems more reminiscent of its neighbors on 14th St. than an Italian trattoria. Nevertheless, whoever is currently preparing the food continues to do a very good job: pasta dishes in particular shine, tasting far more reminiscent of Italy than New Jersey. (On the other hand, the donut balls I had for dessert were a bit on the heavy side.) The upstairs dining room remains charming, and especially during the early evening, has the advantage of not being noisy.
The reviews sounded great, which is why we picked it. Maybe we just caught it on a bad night but, our experience was lacking anything special and bordered on being annoying...our server did almost nothing to engage us or explain the menu or the specials. When we travel, we always look forward to learning about local restaurants and their specialties...our server just told us..."it's all good". We actually didn't find that to be true. And when he picked up my plate of my barely touched overcooked Mediterranean sea bass he had no interest in discovering why...annoying. We wouldn't go back nor recommend it - but, like I say - maybe it was just an off night because it sure was packed!
Nice neighborhood experience as we dined outside. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and we were pleased with the food and service.
Went for my cousin's birthday and the staff made everything such a wonderful experience. The chef Nacho Olivera came out and introduced himself to my cousin who's a foodie and made her birthday dinner even more memorable.
Had my birthday dinner at Lupo verde and it was fabulous. Food was amazing, service excellent, and the overall value was great. They even gave me a dessert on the house. Will definitely be coming back soon.
Always reliable - good food in a pleasant environment. DIning room is accessed via a pretty but tricky spiral staircase - not accessible for many but well worth the climb if you can.
Best homemade pasta I have had in DC! Super authentic, my wife and I have been here 3 times and thoroughly enjoyed our meals and experiences each time!
We had the octopus appetizer and Scallops main course, and they were both INCREDIBLE
Always great! Love the vibe and staff warmth and expertise!
If you are not a millennial.... here are better more authentic Italian restaurants, with better customer service, better food and better more knowledge servers that at Lupo's. Shucks, I don't mind spending money, but if you want value for your money, Lupo Verde is overpriced and simply has lack luster customer service from the host to the manager to waiter. By the way, if a servers original language is not English and they can't speak very clear English or speak it quickly or don't enunciate, why would you have them serving tables?
The BEST! My favorite spot on 14th St! This is my all time favorite both downtown and uptown! Amazing staff and delicious food and wine!
They canceled my reservation even though I was there.
The food was awesome! Everything about the restaurant was wonderful
Outstanding food. freshly prepared and well-balanced. Very noisy (lively!) so not great if you have any hearing issues. Excellent service.
ATTILIO AND HIS TEAM ARE OUTSTANDING.
MY FAVORITE ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN DC.
Terrific service and food. They went out of their way to recognize our daughter's birthday.
We had a wonderful meal and the service was excellent
Very delicious food! Pasta portion was a little small but wasn't left super hungry. Sitting by the bar meant service wasn't that great.
Great food and service
One of our favorites, Lupo Verde always manages to provide a variety of interesting and delicious plates. A treat, especially if you can sit outside on a pleasant evening.
We’ve been to Lupo Verde numerous times and had a pretty good experience however this occasion was less than average. They have 2 types of chairs upstairs - 1 with back support that is nice and 1 type of chair that feels like you are constantly sliding off the chair because the cushion is too large and the chair has no support because it’s curved a backwards angle. We were seated at the later type of chair and I had to have them switch our seats because it was so awful. Then we waited 10 minutes until the waiter took our drink order. First course came out and it was nice but waiter didn’t pay attention to our drinks, we had to flag down the busboy to get the waiters attention to get another round of drinks. While we waited our entree came but they hadn’t cleared our first course. Initially we would have ordered a bottle but at this point the service was so bad we just wanted to leave so ordered a glass of wine and asked for the check before we had finished. Not impressed. Next time we will sit at the bar because at least we know someone will pay attention to us if we are sitting right there
The server was very bad, didn’t know his menu, gave poor advise on kids food, was not attentive to our table throughout the meal, and was not particularly polite.
We were served small warm water glasses only refilled once. The food was ok but not very good. We had dinner there at least three times before but it seems to have gone downhill
Lupo Verde was such a great experience!
The food: Classic, simple, outstanding Italian. It was very clear the pasta was made fresh. Flavors were nuanced and well balanced. The bonbolinis are a must!
The ambiance: Our favorite part of the experience was their space! It is beautifully decorated, and has a very homey feel.
Service: The bartender was also our waiter; as the night went on, it was clear she was busy, and so we didn’t get her full attention. While with us, though, she gave great recommendations and was nice enough.
All in all, our favorite Italian spot in DC thus far. Will definitely be back!
Worst service, waited on separate meals for over 45 minutes. Waiter was rude. Asked for bread 6 times and had to serve myself bread as well as olive oil.... have been coming here for ages and will never return. The manager did not handle the complaints or the cold and under cooked food. How can this place say they are authentic Italian when families in Italy would be embarrassed to serve this food.
Birthday for my daughter
This amazing freshly cooked menu keeps us coming back! Each dish I’ve tried is crafted with care and served fresh. I have landed on the traditional spaghetti carbonara as my favorite meal. Such a delicious spot in a fun area of town!
Wonderful experience! Family in town visiting, loved the ambiance and food, great service, will be back!
A wonderful goodbye dinner for a dear friend
Wonderful food served in a beautiful restaurant with charming ambiance. The staff is friendly and helpful, the service was fast, and the food delectable. The bagna cauda fried artichokes in particular were one of the best things I've ever eaten.
The music was a bit loud, but we were seated right under the speaker, and it wasn't so loud we couldn't converse.
Lupo Verde is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Whether with kids or a romantic date or an adult dinner, it's a fantastic choice.
