Lupa Ratings and Reviews
This was the second time at Lupa. The atmosphere is nice and casual and the service is good. The food however was somewhat bland. We had the rigatoni with the duck ragout, followed by saltimbocco. The duck ragout lacked taste and the saltimbocca was not as tender as we would have expected. Decent wine cellar, however the wine was served too cold. All in all, a decent meal but did not meet/exceed our expectations.
well worth the drive is right.....we drove all the way from CLEVELAND !! Lupa is always one of our prime destinations . we are in new york several times a year, and are never disappointed in the food and service and overall quality of Lupa. the Buccatini is as good as ROMA...and we go there often also. the bar seats are great for two people...or one. everyone is friendly and polite and the food cant be beat. also.....nice to have tablecloths !!
I have been a fan of this restaurant for years. However, the food left a lot to be desired this time. First, cacio e pepper was way to salty and undercooked. We had to return it. The tartufo was not the way we remember. Likely, they changed the recipe--but it was not as good as the restaurant used to serve: smaller cherry in the center of the ice cream; the hazelnut on top is simply too much; the ice cream lacked taste. The veal saltimboca was overlooked. The entree lacked the aesthetics--simply a piece of meat on the lacklustre white plate. Did they change the management??
I asked for restaurant recommendations from my in-the-know girlfriend and Lupa was on the list. I was thrilled when I was able to secure a reservation on OpenTable. We arrived on time to a very full house and were brought right to our cozy table. Great location in the City. Delicious wine and dinner in a fun and bustling atmosphere. Incredibly attentive service from our waiter. Our meal from beginning to end was just perfect. I took my foodie girlfriend to Lupa and she was thrilled with the experience. She continued to refer to our dinner at Lupa for the rest of our NYC weekend! Thank you for a memorable evening. I can’t wait to return!
Lupa is our 'go to' in NYC for delicious Italian food and it never fails to deliver. This time we went extra early (3:30) to have plenty of time for several courses before heading uptown for a 7pm show. Smart move. The restaurant wasn't as crowded as usual. We sat at the bar for a drink first and then had a very leisurely and relaxing meal with plenty of room to stretch out. All of the pasta is so good, but the Bavette Cacio e Pepe is simply the best I've ever had!
A great trattoria in the Roman style of cooking. Noisy, vibrant, and congenial it is a reminder of the great food spots we have been to in different ( non touristy) parts of Rome.
Trippa alla romana was a delightfully tasty take on Roman tripe as was the pasta in squid ink. More modern dishes included a duck confit roasted to crisp the skin which was rich and delicious and a veal breast w sweetbreads that was a tad on the overdone side but still very delicious. Great service and attitude from all involved including the hostesses manning the front desk.
We haven’t been to Lupa since the summer but it will surly be on our go to list this winter.
Seating is tight but once seated the space is adequate. Food was outstanding - highly recommend the tuna carpaccio. Had the special pasta which had duck. That was good but dick got lost in sauce. Wife had pasta as well - simple bucatelli in sauce - delicious. Service was good. Excellent restaurant !
Came for a birthday dinner for my husband. We both had the pasta tasting menu which was fantastic, and both went home with a lot of leftovers. Wish they would have warned us to pace ourselves a bit - we did not realize how much food we were in for and finished off all of our first few courses and soon were very full. Great dinner and great service.
The food at Lupa is outstanding. Simply put this is the best pasta in town - especially the simpler pastas like caccio e pepe or carbonara. Also, I am a great fan of amaro cocktails and the bar has a very large selection of these.
The biggest drawback to me is how loud it is. You have to practically shout to have other people at the table hear you clearly. That being said, we will certainly go again for the food.
Very high noise level and very cramped tables. We were accommodated when we asked for a table along the wall, which was less cramped. Friendly staff. Ordered Saltimbocca, a classic Italian dish that I expected to be good at a Batali restaurant. It was terrible - dry, tasteless and no similarity to the wonderful experience of the dish that I have had in Italy.
I guess you can say that the ambiance in the place is great, but to me it was too cramped and too noisy. When the food was also a disappointment, I do not feel inclined to recommend this place.
Got a table on short notice, so glad we did. We shared some pastas as appetizers. The Oxtail Ravioli and Bavete Cacio de Pepe were outstanding. I ordered the Saltimbocca for my main course which was nothing like I thought it would be, but nontheless fantastic. Would definitely come back again!
