Bavette Cacio e Pepe
Excellent service, very attentive. Had two pastas, artichoke app and roasted cauliflower. All outstanding! Loved everything. Warm, cozy atmosphere.
It wasn’t my 1st time
The saltimboca wasn’t available bc chef said he needed three more hours to prepare. That was my first choice and I don’t get the excuse. The pasta was undercooked and I know what Al denote pasta is supposed to be like. Bucatini was quite salty. Service was meh. Server played the guessing game ‘who’s got the bolognese’? I bet this isn’t a Batali Basti restaurant anymore. Kids did not like
Booked a special thanksgiving dinner for my family here based on reviews. The food taste and quality was, honestly, excellent. Unfortunately, after waiting for an unacceptably long period of time, the food was delivered cold to the table. ALL of it was cold, not just some of it. The menu was “set” for thanksgiving and, yet, several items were unavailable. Looked to me like they had both problems with planning and problems in the kitchen. Too bad really.
Loud and crowded restaurant for dinner. Five of us sat at a table suitable for 2. The back of my chair was right up against another table. We could not carry on a conversation without yelling.
Reservation for 7pm. We showed up at 630pm and asked if we could be seated early. Hostess said yes but we needed to be done by 8pm. I was a tad confused: if we got there at the scheduled time, did we have a finish time of 830pm? If so, why would that move up? If nothing else, we improved their odds of being able to sit their 830pm earlier by whatever time we had finished if unprompted. The ask was unnecessary. We got seated in the backroom which was way too tight. The front room look tight too but, being a large room, it seems it would feel OK (ask for front room). The food was good. The waitstaff was great as was their selection df wine by the glass. Would I return? For the price point, I would expect better space in the back and more common sense when greetings patrons. Not sure if I would return.
I ordered a mozzarella and prosciutto as appetizer and mozzarella came very salty. The main dishes took more then 40 min to get ready. The special dish of the day (Ossobuco) was not available for lunch, only for dinner.
The dishes were hit and miss. Some good, some very mediocre. Overall, not impressed. Service was outstanding.
High expectations. Pasta was great, contorni were salty and overly buttered. Duck special a bit tough.
Waited 20 minutes for service on a Tuesday night. Waiter was surly when we enquired about the set menu. We ended up eating elsewhere!
I’m not a picky eater but their food is not that great! Their pasta is beyond al dente… like hardly cooked .. the oxtail has this weird sauce which I never tasted anywhere that serves Italian cuisine. In fact, I never tasted that kind even in Italy. The first waiter has no personality… flat affect, no humor at all. Tried to ask for their specialty, but it seems he’s not in the mood to talk . The second waiter who took over our table is a complete opposite. He attended to us well and have done an excellent service. I’m soo disappointed to pick this place to hang out with my friends who I hardly see.
All of our pasta dishes including cacio, bolognese, and vongole (with the exception of the pesto) was disappointing. It was lacking a lot of flavor and it didn’t seem like much thought was put into it. My friends have visited to this restaurant before and remembered their quality being great. Not sure what happened with their quality but we will not be returning.
Had a great birthday dinner
Fantastic food all
The way around!
Took forever to get seated despite reservation, food took forever, way too many seats/tables packed into the space. Food was still good, but not worth the other negatives.
Our seat was next to the door and the incoming traffic kept it open while waiting for the host. They need one of the outdoor extenders for winter or a better way to direct traffic. There were people literally like 5 inches from us waiting to see the host. However, the rest of the ambience was very nice and such great service! The appetizers were the best part, get them prosciutto and the Brussels sprouts!
Pasta texture was perfect and sauces delightfully savory, though the overcooked octopus in the black spaghetti lands it at a 4-out-of-5 in my book.
Never disappoints. Food remains consistently outstanding. Great to be back.
We were waiting for our table for 30 minutes. The hostess offered us to stay outside. Obviously, the service is going down
Got seated an hour after our reservation. Service was slow and food quality was not great. Such a disappointment both in service and food. Not planning to go back.
Tables way too close. Very noisy. Not a good place for conversation.
Miss the way the old Brussels Sprout starter was prepared.
Nice vibe, busy, energetic great food and service
This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. I think perhaps it was better in the past. The cocktails and wine were good. The food was not. I had the strozapretti with short rib ragu. The pasta was undercooked, needed a couple more minutes to get to al dente. The short rib ragu was tough and not terribly tasty. My husband had the ricotta gnocci with sausage and fennel puree, he said it was OK. The funghi misto was perhaps the most tasty part of the meal. You would think an Italian restaurant could cook pasta properly. This restaurant will certainly not be a memorable part of our NYC visit.
Pasta tasting menu was hit or miss. We only made it through three of the four. Portion sizes were a bit large for our tastes
Delicious pasta. It took a while to be cooked, but worth a wait.
Very good but a little pricey. Welcome to the nee world.
Main dish was cold but they comped it. Not good at crowd control while people checked in
The food was mediocre overall. The Saltimbocca was over battered and fried and really not worthy of any decent restaurant--- more like the cheap veal parm in a sandwich shop. The pasta with black pepper and cheese was good as was the branzino. Disappointing.
Another amazing meal! Pasta was outstanding. Super staff and besides the great food a cool vibe
It was truly terrible! We waited for a long time to get...nothing. They ran out of everything. What they did deliver was bad. Terrible experience!
Everything was great other than the food what which is not what it once was. Lupa has lost its spark
The food was delish and our waiter was great. It was very loud, loved the music but maybe we were closest to the speaker so it was difficult to talk. The room was freezing.
Was not given the seating I had booked
The food comes out a little too quickly for my taste, but they don’t rush you at the end.
Love everything about this place but the back room feels like Siberia.
Lupa has been one of our favorite NY spots for many years but we went for my wife's birthday recently and were quite disappointed. Food was good although not like times past. Our waiter told us he "appreciated our patience" when he brought our check--perhaps realizing that we had gotten less than attentive service despite having plenty of open tables at lunch. When we asked for some additional focaccia to go with our pasta course, we got some pretty tired, mangled pieces that just were not up to the usual quality we have come to expect. I have probably been to Lupa more than 20 times but this may be our last.
The food was great, loved that they have a glossary built into the menu. Got one of two great tables in the front outdoor space that is attached to the building, not built into the street. Enjoyed a having conversation with my date without having to struggle to hear her or to yell for her to hear me. Was offered a seat at the bar while I waited for my date to arrive.
Good food and service. Seating was tight and neighboring tables were really loud (and so close that someone’s pony tail was nearly in our food. Consider an outside table as they looked very nice and more private.
A friend was in from out of town. She’s GF and I knew if we were going to do GF pasta then Lupa was the place to do it. The GF was fantastic! As someone who isn’t GF and loves pasta it was just as delicious as their homemade pasta.
