This was our 2nd time at Lupa and it didn’t disappoint. We had the pasta tasting menu which consisted of 5 small portions of their most popular pastas. We all thought we wouldn’t finish it all, but they were so good we couldn’t stop eating. The wait staff was excellent as was the sommelier with her wine selections. Definitely will be back when I’m NYC again.
Seating was a little crowded, but overall ambiance was excellent. Food was authentic Italian with a Roman emphasis. My wife said her steak was excellent, but my pasta was average in taste and presentation. Service was friendly and attentive. You are basically paying a high price for authenticity and ambiance for low value food.
Got deathly ill from some bad tuna. Called them to report it. Their response was very nonchalant.
So good! My family and I went here for my birthday dinner and we had a great time
Food has gone down hill significantly. Not only was my food cold but there was poor flavor
The food at this place is incredible and reasonably priced. It is my favorite restaurant in New York for these reasons. Still, our party had to wait almost an hour after our reservation to be seated. Given that the reservation was already for 9pm, this was hard on us. Though we were kindly offered complimentary Prosecco, this didn't much make for the fact that we didn't really start eating until about 10:30pm. Moreover, this is the second time I've had to wait far too long to be seated - it happened the last time I came to Lupa too. They likely need to take fewer reservations to make sure this doesn't happen again. Again, the food was fantastic - I had the Mushroom Papardelle and will sing its praises to the high heavens!
We make it a point to dine here every time we’re in NYC. I love that the restaurant has been expanded with the separate dining room in the back, which is less noisy than in the front as this allowed us to have a conversation while dining and not having to speak loudly to be heard. While we wanted to try the White Truffle tasting menu, we opted not to and instead shared a plate of the Tonnarelli alla Gricia with shaved white truffles. This dish was sublime, as were all of the dishes we ordered. Lesley was our server and excelled, as do all of their wait staff. I can’t wait to visit again!
Lupa is always good but it continually annoys me that they make you wait in their very small entrance for your entire party to arrive, even though 1 person is only 5 minutes behind you.
THE food is excellent.
Wonderful restaurant I plan to go back to. Creative and delicious menu, lots to choose from, excellent service, fun location and A+ experience.
Probably the best meal I've had in a long time. The food was amazing and the service was sweet and attentive. That lemon budino was to die for. Will definitely be back.
Servizio lentissimo e personale poco cortese. La pasta era buona ma aspettare 50 minuti per un piatto di spaghetti mi sembra un po’ esagerato.
Everything about Lupa was perfect for a first visit. We especially enjoyed the unexpected music selection. Deep tracks from 80's goth bands such as Killing Joke, Bauhaus, and others! I will definitely be back.
Waited a very long time to be seated after our reservation, pretty frustrating!
Not a repeat. I ordered salami - which came presented in a way that could have easily been done at home. Pasta was not memorable. Did not come al dente instead soft and mushy.
Absolutely loved the pasta recommendation from our server (the Bavette) - and the prosciutto & mozzarella appetizer recommendation. They were all so good!
Really the best pasta
We've dined at Lupa countless times. Never before have we experienced an off night; food and service has always been excellent and consistent no matter the day of the week or time of day. Unfortunately, the most recent visit was an exception to this standard, and the pasta courses, in particular, were lukewarm, gummy and under seasoned. Fritto misto and escarole salad were good. Sorry!
Outstanding. We love Lupa and always look forward to going.
Cacio e Pepe and americitiana were delicious. Pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente and the service was incredible
Love neighborhood atmosphere and food is good to very
Love Lupa. Great food and excellent wine list
It was just a delightful Monday night in a charming restaurant with excellent food and delicious wine.
Great food and service. I really enjoyed my dinner and will definitely recommend.
Great restaurant! I’ve been hear three times and loved it each time. My only complaint: we were seated in the front of the restaurant. It’s really loud, which is why I had requested to be seated in the back room. I guess they were unable to accommodate us. Oh well!
Food was delicious as always especially the lamb! Our server was excellent.
Mostly for those who want authentic Roman food. Very authentic, well-prepared, great service, nice cocktail before dinner.
Great from start to finish!
Not nearly as good as remembered. We ordered 5 entrees; one was excellent, 3 were ok and 1 was horrible.
Take your chances.
Amazing restaurant. The different pasta dishes were delicious, each in its on way. The Burrata was amazing, the Cacio e Pepe is a masterpiece, and the Aglio e Olio is as simple and accurate as it should be. However, the Short-rib ragu was good, but not amazing - I had better ragu dishes in other places.
The service was amazing: our waiter was great - friendly, timely, and accommodating. Also, each of his recommendations were on point.
This was my second time here - first time was 2-3 weeks ago - and I love this place. Definitely coming back here again (and again, and again... :-)).
Have eaten at Lupa four times over the last year. Two meals were good. Two were bad, including this last one. The food, quite frankly, tasted like it had been made a day earlier and simply thrown in the microwave. Though even that wasn’t consistent - the table next to me (who could apparently not complete a single sentence without a four-letter word) had to send theirs back as undercooked. Ambience in the front half of the restaurant is ok: in the back it is awful - the ventilation is atrocious and the space is cramped.
There you have it: best to avoid.
Lovely, warm place with outstanding food and service. Cacio e pepe as good, if not better, than what we had in Italy. Duck special was absolutely delicious. There are wines by the small carafe, and there is also a large selection of mostly pricey Italian wines by the bottle. The sommelier helped us find a reasonably priced red that worked nicely with our dinner. It was noisy when we arrived about eight p.m., but noise level did go down as people left. Highly recommend.
Slow, almost sloth-like service to begin with, despite the restaurant being almost empty at 5 pm. At the end (7:30 pm) they brought us dessert and coffee at the same time in order to get us out as fast as possible. Food ok, not more. Not recommended.
Staff was more interested in talking with each other than taking care of our table. Waitress had no personality then left her shift without providing us any transition to another waiter. Sommelier was okay but didn't really appear to be a great wine expert. I drink a lot of wine and know a reasonable amount but not Italian wines which is basically the entire wine menu. I do know what I like and described it.They made an ok suggestion but didn't have a passion for it. I love their food and have been there several times when I am in NYC but i was very disappointed with the experience, one of the key ingredients of a top notch dining experience.
Server very knowledgeable, food was outstanding, good wine selection. Came on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed!
We were not seated until almost an hour after our reservation and the pasta was under cooked.
Never fails to deliver lovely Roman food (love the tripe) with friendly and efficient service - and all at reasonable prices.
Lovely early dinner on a Sunday night. Can’t wait to go back...brava!
So very disappointed that the food is no longer what it was. This was really once one of the very best Italian restaurants in Manhattan.
