What could have been an excellent dining experience was marred by subpar service!

We sampled some excellent dishes (gossamer thin tuna carpaccio, tangy sardines in citrus marinade, oxtail ravioli, brilliant octopus...) but the service was an entirely different story. I felt a constant pressure to rush through my dinner -- service staff repeatedly wanting to clear our plates when they could see that we had not yet finished. Three of them turned up within seconds of each other and the third one was even graceless enough to bring over a carton for us to pack our food! Our waitress hardly knew anything about the wines on the list and when asked for a recommendation, all that she could say was "maybe you can order a bottle"! Later, she tipped over our wine glass and carafe. As a courtesy, would have expected her to offer to refill the glass. Forget that - she didn't even offer to change the stained tablecloth!! Finally, at the end of our meal, we ordered a liqueur and waited and waited. When it didn’t come, we called her back to remind her and her reaction was a vague “oh, I didn’t realize you wanted it”! What kind of a response was that??? Can't tell if it was a case of poor training or the staff is overwhelmed by the popularity of their restaurant and just have enough bandwidth for perfunctory customer service.

Fantastic menu and the food is just as good as described. Bucatini Amatriciana was perfectly cooked and in a fantastic sauce. Large selection of Amaro. Can't go wrong with Italian food cooked this well.

I'm from out of town and a few people had recommended this restaurant. It's a smallish, busy resto but the service team works together efficiently. There were so many delicious and reasonably-priced options to select from - it was hard to decide! I have a gluten allergy and I was thrilled to discover that they have a gluten-free pasta that they make in-house. It was excellent! I would definitely go back!

Came here with friends and shared all of our dishes because we all wanted to taste EVERYTHING! Best dish: Pork belly torteloni, but you can't go wrong on any thing you order. Daily specials, authentic Romana dishes, great service and ambiance, and super cozy!

Solid in all aspects as always. Creative menu while classically Roman. Cacio y pepe as good as we could find in Rome this spring. Nice service helpful and timely without hovering. Great wine list of wines from every part of Italy.

Love this place, always great food and just a comfy feeling, never come to NY without a visit to Lupa. Hard to make food choices but the skirt steal is unrivaled.

My husband and I had a lovely Saturday lunch at Lupa this past weekend. He had the weekly special (the half baby roast chicken -- delicious), I had the duck confit with tomato sauce over pasta (good, but very rich), and we shared the spinach salad and the brussels sprouts (fabulous). Nice waiter, good wine, fun atmosphere. The music seemed pointless to me -- people were there to talk, and all one could hear was the bass.

This was the 3rd time we visited Lupa. Everything continue being well, food, service, etc.
But we find the list of wines very expensive.

Our dinner at Lupa was very good. The food is just outstanding. The only problem was that the day we were there it was super crowded so they were 20 minutes late in seating us and the bar was filled to the gills, so it was bit unconfortbale. Other than that the food is really top notch and the prices are reasonable.

We make a point of visiting Lupa each trip to NY (from Seattle). Our daughter lived on the same block as Lupa and we would duck in when, on passing, we could see open tables. We were quickly addicted — the carbonara is a must-have each time. It was also incentive to try all of the Batalli restaurants in the city and I would give them all the same high marks.

((Piccolo (Very Good) - Salumi (Good) - Prosciutto (Very Good) - Coppa Cotta (Good) - Bresaola (Good) - Ligua (Good) - Testa (Very Good)) - Spaghetti alla carbonara (Ok) - Truffled Goat Cheese Agnolotti (Good) - Lam Scottadito (Very Good)

Arrived early for a 9:15 Thursday night resi - was able to get seated after about a 10-15 min wait at the bar - bar area is very small - Bar Service was very good - First waitress was very very aloof, could not explain the menu clearly, and overall was slow - Last waitress was much better, knew more about the menu - Martini was solid - Menu was pretty complicated - Scene is very datey or low key - Not a trendy place even though it was fully reserved - we didn't order the right things in my opinion - Antipasta and Lambchops were very good, but the pasta was not great at all - Carbonara was not sweet enough for my liking - Goat Cheese Agnolotti was super super intense cheesy - Would order differently if I went back - Had better Batali food

No info about the menu, just one of 7-8 maindishes available, ice cold red wine, poor service etc. 3rd (after 2 earlier great visits in 2014 and 2016) and last visit at this place. Great food (again) but unacceptable poor service (this time).

Our second visit to Lupa was as pleasant as the first. The main course specials were enticing and as before the service was congenial and attentive. The list of Amari from less visited regions in Italy is a plus if you like your taste buds to explore.

Spent the weekend dinning at 6 different restaurants, all high end. By far this was the most disappointing. Service was so rushed they were literally removing plates before you were finished your bite! Seemed it was all about getting three sittings in for the evening. We come to Manhattan every year and will never come here again nor refer to any friends and family.

Great food! Only problem we had was the hostess greeted us by telling our group that there was a reservation after ours (i also had a reservation) and basically told us to finish our meal before that reservation arrived.

I go to Lupa every time I have a chance. It is a good place to have lunch or dinner, to take a friend or to simply sit at the bar and talk to the excellent staff, who advises you on wines and special dishes. This is my favorite Italian in New York right now : no gimmicks (e.g. waiters in red tuxedos :) ), just excellent food that ``in principle'' you could do yourself if you REALLY applied yourself but...why bother it's better at LUPA.
I recommend: appetizer Trippa all'a Romana (very hearty), buccatini Amatriciana (your in heaven) or perhaps the classic bavette ``caccio e pepe''. Wines: the Barbera d'Alba wont lie to you, neither will the Barbaresco or the Brunellos (ony by the bottle). For desert, do yourself a favor an try ricotta with honey. You'll be hooked on the She-Wolf of Greenwich Village!

Our salad and gnocchi were excellent as were the Aperol Spritz. We were disappointed with the beef we ordered for our main course. The roasted root vegetables were awful and I asked the waiter to remove them and we did not get charged for them. I would try again but stick to pasta dishes.

Pastas are absolutely delicious. Main courses (secondi) are a bit more of a crap shoot -- some excellent (e.g, the quail), others less so (e.g., the braciola). Fish selection is modest and a bit offbeat, possibly simply choosing low cost varieties like porgy.
