Such a great time, super friendly and well informed staff. The only reason it’s a 4 versus 5 is because we were rushed to finish. There was enough open tables around us that it wasn’t like they needed ours. Regardless, happy it is open and thriving. The food is great, classic Italian. Cannot go wrong with Lupa and there is something for everyone on the menu.
A little on the pricier end but you get your money’s worth - portion sizes are very generous.
Everything was fabulous (sat inside), as always. The exception is the wine. I rejected two tastes of red... the third I accepted, despite tasting corky. It’s likely that wines may not have been maintained during prior Covid shutdowns, so we accepted what there is at the moment, because we want to be understanding of their blight, though the standards for wine have not fully returned. I’m sure they will very soon, as the rest of their business.
Lidia used to have authentic Italian cuisine, the food was over cooked, soaked in butter and the service was terrible. Lacked flavor. We couldn’t eat it. For almost 20 years we have eaten at her restaurants and the last couple of years the quality has gone significantly down. There are other options out there for price and authenticity.
Started well. Excellent prosciutto starter. Also excellent special wine choice. A really nice frascati. The cacio pepe was excellent. But the other secondi were disappointing,as was the contorni. Service was efficient but uninspired. The ricotta cheese cake was left half eaten. Not going back despite high hopes and the hype.
Always good
We have been to lupa many times and this food was disappointing. Lamb steaks were totally raw, we ate them without complaint because service was bad. definitely not medium rare. We had to ask for water, bread, etc. The mista salad had too much dressing, too. Soup was salty. For the price, it was a big disappointment. We will not return after many years of patronage.
Food as always was delicious but restaurant was extremely cold. Specifically asked for indoor seating because weather was cold- felt colder inside than outside
The food this visit was more hit and miss than on previous visits to Lupa. Some items were excellent, like the pollo alla diavola, which was amazingly juicy yet with really nice spice and crispy skin. The octopus with black lentils and frisee was very nice and beautiful to look at, but the white bean soup with prosciutto was just ok. The spaghetti aglio e olio was overpowered by the amount of red chili flakes, and the stinging nettle pasta was just ok too, though cooked well. Finally, the dessert, the Tartufo, had a nice taste, but was served so cold that it was difficult to cut into initially even with a steak knife. It would have been better if they had let it sit out of the freezer for 10 minutes before serving, or stored it someplace where its not so cold. Overall, this is still one of my favorite restaurants in NYC, there were just a few more issues than usual this night.
Returned after a year away still as good as ever!
It was too noisy but what can w do with youngster speaking too loud?
For summer can we open more open space outdoors? The outside structure does let you enjoy the warm weather
Delicious food, excellent service, authentic Italian in a beautiful restaurant. What else do you need?!
Whenever I am in NYC I try to make a point of visiting Lupa, I love the food!
I’ve been to Lupa many times and always have a great experience but this time was particularly wonderful!! Our server was phenomenal, so personable and knowledgeable! The food was amazing (as usual) and everything was times out very well! Loved it!
Excellent food and cocktails. Try to get outside seating!
Too noisy!! Very loud music— why? Everything else great!!
Awesome good and service! Love the outdoor set up!
Ben was super patient with us when we needed to wait for our guests. He was great at his job and we had an overall really great experience in the outdoor dining area!
Authentic Roman trattoria. Great service
We were put in the back room and that is the worst place to be seated. Terrible vibe in the rear room. I've eaten at Lupa before and the food wasn't a good this time around.
Easily the best Italian food outside of Italy. So fresh and tasty. The pastas are homemade and perfectly cooked. Really missed this place during the pandemic. I’m so happy to be back. My dinner was the best pesto I have ever had!
Great service. Food was okay. The oxtail was described as fall off the bone. Unfortunately it was almost all bone and almost inedible.
great food.
Maybe an off night for them. Husband’s pasta came cold and undercooked. Replacement was delicious. Very good appetizer. Our charming waiter got busy elsewhere.
Won’t come back.
La comida muy buena. Pedimos el pato y muy rico la verdad también la pasta con el tocino también rico
One of the best meals we have had in a while. The cacio e pepe and pomodoro pastas and the crispy cod were all outstanding. Service was great.
The Spaghetti Aglio, Olio e Pepperoncino should have been listed as spicy because it was much more spicy than just a little heat. My mom ordered that dish and was completely caught off guard with how spicy it was. I tried it and completely agreed - WAY to spicy to not be given warning when ordering it.
The music didn’t quite fit the venue. Other than that, wine was great, service was fantastic, LOVED all of the other pasta entrees that our table had. We sat inside, and the ambiance of the restaurant was just lovely. We didn’t feel rushed. Thank you for a great evening!
We have been going to Lupa for at least 15 years, the food and service have always been impeccable! Yesterday, after a long wait and anticipation we returned to celebrate my birthday and what a disappointment it was! From the moment we entered, we’ve been reminded that we have 3 hours to dine, yet our table was not ready for at least 20 minutes after our arrival. The service was terrible-dirty plates were left on the table, table was not cleaned between courses and so on... yet, after about 2 hours and 40 minutes, we were reminded again that our time was up and we need to hurry and order deserts. The only positive experience was the food- delicious as usual.
Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Ok - you're a well known restaurant. You only had sour beer on tap and no bottled? You only had Tito's vodka? Only Beefeater gin? Get your bar together! the food and waiter were great though. Less ice in the Negroni would be nice too.
The food was delicious and even though the menu is small, it does offer a different variety of foods, some not so common, but I like to try new things.
Delicious hearty food. Very authentic. Service was excellent.
Amazing!!! Bucatini is amazing, bread is wonderful, ambiance is great. Been a staple over the years and quality has maintained.
Lately I find lunch not as tasty as dinner in the past
Lupa is always delicious, but on this trip I tried the pollo alla diavolo. Simply unbelievable. We had meatballs to start -- fantastic -- and vegetables on the side. This is the reason that Lupa is one of my favorite restaurants in the Village.
I hesitate to give this bad review to Lupa, a very long established excellent restaurant at this difficult time for restaurants and their survival. However, something was going very wrong on Saturday night. I notice that there have been several other bad reviews for the food and the lack of heat from recent diners, so mine was not an isolated experience. The main issue was the food; my dining companion and I each ordered pasta, mine Cacio e Pepe and she Pasta with Clam Sauce. They were oversalted to the point of being essentially inedible; additionally the service was pretty poor; no one ever came to check on us after the food was delivered. At the end, after asking if we wanted desert and I ordered a Cappucino the waiter came back and informed us that they needed the table and so they would give it to me in a "to go" cup. I turned it down, only to have it brought to the table. They did, however, remove the charges for the two pasta dishes which we did not ask for or expect.
I hope Lupa gets their act together shortly and returns to their usual stellar level.
.
Cold and took long to get seated
Fantastic menu, great staff
Only one waiter for all outside tables. Chicken liver was inedible. Charcuterie meats were stale. Croutons in the white bean soup were hard as bricks. We were seated in the only corner with the open window and the heaters were no where near us. Truly disappointed and we will not be back.
I’ve always loved the food/drinks at Lupa.
This experience was no different but it seemed there was absolutely no heat in the restaurant. Ppl were dining in their coats that’s how cold it was there. Still love their pasta but get some heat guys, it was below 30 in NYC. Indoor dining should be cozy.
It’s been several years since we’ve eaten at Lupa. But the food is as good, maybe even better, than ever. Our server was smart, knowledgeable and gave just the right level of attention. We felt as safe as is possible in this environment and were able to eat outside under a heat lamp.
The pastas were outstanding and will certainly eat there again. Due to C-19 the ambiance was outdoors but it was fine and comfortable with the heaters.
