When you're in this neighborhood, you have to be something to be the neighborhood Roman place.

For years now Lupa has come through with a friendly vibe and consistently delicious food. Bustling staff leaves you wanting for nothing, unless you keep it to yourself... Love the outdoor thing on Thompson.

Service was excruciatingly slow. Our food took forever. Once it did finally arrive, it was clear that the pasta had been sitting for a while before being served. Overall, very disappointing. Would not recommend.

It was busy and the food was very slow to come to the table. We complained and the manager accommodated us. The waiter however didn’t handle it as well. He said the kitchen was busy and said, and I quote, “hey I’m just the waiter.” Not professional at all.

We asked for the wine somalier to come over and they sent over a woman who clearly is not a somalier while the table behind us got to talk to the actual one. This woman was guessing what bottles of wine to offer us.

Waiter was super inattentive - took forever to flag him down to order.

Also it was my friends bday which we told them ahead of time and was also someone at the table behind us bday (they got an actual dessert with a candle in it) my friend was only given a scoop of gelato

Also very undercooked and salty pasta

Lupa always goes above and beyond. They catered our intimate COVID wedding last year and did a fantastic job, so we celebrated our first anniversary there last night and they made it so special for us. Can’t recommend Lupa highly enough.

OMG Lupa is amazing!! The Brussels sprouts are delicious but unfortunately for me anyway, they were spicy. We also have the marinated artichokes which are off the charts delicious. For main dishes we had pasta with with clams and Fettuccine carbonara which was also amazing! But a little spicy. Full disclosure; I am a food snob but a spice wimp! For dessert we had homemade mocha gelato. Everything is beautifully prepared and the chef/server brought us complementary fava bean Crostini and focaccia. When we made the reservation we didn’t realize it was a Bastianich spot and we are fan of Felidias from 20 years ago. We live in CA and this was first time here- our server Anna was great!
Got there 15 minutes early and they seated us but did have to wait a little bit for service. Worth it though!

Left this place extremely disappointed. The food was honestly so bad that my boyfriend and I couldn’t even get through half of it. I ordered the capricci with sausage and pesto. The sausage was delicious but there were only 2 small crumbles the size of a quarter in the whole dish.. the pesto sauce was so bad and tasted like soap. I ate a few bites because I was so hungry but couldn’t even get it down. My boyfriend got the chicken Diavola. First of all, it was not spicy at all, which diavola should be…not a trace of spice. We really didn’t think it was possible to mess up chicken, but it was unarguably the worst chicken I have ever tasted, and he couldn’t even get through a couple of bites. In addition, it was supposed to come with potatoes, but can with only a few thin small slices of potato. It did come with a huge pile of a vegetable reminiscent of broccoli rob, which I love, but it was so bad that when I tried it I actually had to spit it out. Extremely overpriced, paid $135 for a dinner we absolutely hated, and the smallest portions. Do not go here if you want good Italian food, because this is not it. I don’t understand why this place has such a high rating, what are the chances that 2 dishes are actually awful? The staff was very nice though. Although, the bill arrived without even an offering of dessert, which I did really want since it was my birthday...although we really did just want to get out of there at that point.

Lupa never disappoints. It is probably the best, and most authentic interpretation of a true "Roman"Osteria. Hip without being trendy, elegant without being stuffy. If you haven't had Tripe (Trippa) this is the place to try it. Wine list could use some help in the mid to lower range and Bastianich family wines have an overly nepotistic representation, but overall still very good.

Expensive but well worth the cost. Dave (the sommelier) was on point with his recommendations and the food delicious. We went with the Spinach Salad, Spicy Pork Pasta, NY Strip and a Pumpkin dessert.

Awful experience from the start. Tried to seat us in the back room with a large party going on when they had multiple tables in the front dining room. Server was awful he was unable to provide information about the menu or wine and kept coming to take the order even after we said we wanted to wait for sommelier and was incredibly inattentive. He was absent for the rest of the meal didn’t check up on us, didn’t bother to ask how our meal was and was folding napkins the entire time. Pastas were all just okay. The gnocchi was about 10-15 pieces and came extremely cold and we sent it back they literally reheated it in a few minutes and served us the same plate of now over cooked mushy gnocchi. Didn’t clear our empty wine glasses before dessert, didn’t ask about how the meal was or care. We ordered a dessert for my mom who’s birthday it was while she was in the bathroom and they brought it before she came back then served it before the other person at our table came back from the bathroom. I never wrote reviews but for a place I used to love and for that much money I feel like we had an awful experience and will never return.

Worth a visit! However, used to be perfection but the quality of certain dishes have gone down. The NY strip we ordered was sinewy and hard to eat. Escarole salad not as good as it used to be (off night?) Pastas are still really fantastic here though, well executed. Service is excellent and I love the energy of the place.

We came over for their meat and cheese board extravaganza which used to be quite amazing just two years ago. However the server informed us that they’re out of all meats but one out of their 5-meat plate (was a much wider selection of cold cuts last time we enjoyed dinner here).
The service was a bit messy, never knew who our server was as multiple people came up to us trying to take the order and after that was done no one really checked up on us.
The food that we ended up ordering was good enough, nothing crazy, not anything to be coming back to Lupa for.

The food was outstanding. Although the waiter was scarce at times, he gave us good service when he came by. The ambiance is very nice, albeit a bit cramped, but to be expected from the small venue. Outside seating is an option as well but we didn't want to be amongst the traffic from the surrounding bars. Overall had a great time and highly recommend the lamb for two!

Food was just ok. What a terrible experience overall. Our waiter literally quarreled with our busboy which ruined the entire mood and vibe of the dinner. No one apologized. We spoke to the manager and she could care less. Very unpleasant evening.

Their 'old fashioned' is VERY good. Food was very good - we had the zucchini blossoms and charred octopus for appetizer; for entre, fettuccine with chanterelle mushrooms and the black ink spaghetti with seafood. Both were outstanding. They have an extensive wine list. The staff was very friendly. Our reservation was for 8:00, we left around 9:40 and it was still packed. Reservations definitely needed and i would definitely recommend the place.

Do NOT eat at this place. It was the worst restaurant experience in a decade for me: the food took 75 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered, and when it did two of the four dishes were wrong. We had flown from out of town in the morning to celebrate my birthday that evening and we were tired and hungry. When we asked them to correct our order and bring the right plates rapidly because we were starving they said the could not do that. The staff were not only incompetent but also rude. I repeat: do NOT eat there unless you expect to wait an enormous amount of time, get food you didn’t ordered and be treated in a disrespectful fashion.

Food is delicious! One of my favorite restaurants from years ago, still yummy! Everyone enjoyed their meal-
Cornish hen special/ spinach & peach salad/ short rib ragu pasta/cod.
So accommodating, we asked at the beginning if we could get individual checks-no problem! Service was excellent-asked how everything was
(We asked for too much spec which tasted too salty, they made another salad in a minute without being asked!)
We all (8) will return again & again &……

One of my favorite Italian restaurants I’ve been to for many years never disappoints. Four of us shared affetatti, roast pork, grilled octopus, fried panko-breaded cod and a couple of pasta dishes all of which were excellent except the cod being unacceptably salty. This was unfortunate as we had made a request to reduce salt for all plates—we’d been aware of the over salted issue at this restaurant all along… Highly recommended, but a simple less-salt request also highly recommended.
Oh, the wine list is superb, but daily recommended by-the-glass offerings never miss as well.

This was our first time back to Lupa post-Covid and what a disappointment it was. We appreciate the difficulties in finding staff at this time, but our server was dreadful. The food wasn’t much better - appetizers and pastas came out cold and were pretty pedestrian compared to the high standards of the past. We’ve dined here for years and the quality of food and service had always been a rave. What a sad fall from grace. Hope they get it together.

Lupa is our go-to celebration restaurant. We've eaten here dozens of times. As in the past, the food was excellent. We sat outside, so felt somewhat comfortable regarding COVID despite the closed-in outdoor seating area. However, it was extremely distressing that (other than the man busing tables) not a single employee of the restaurant wore a mask--whether indoors or outdoors. We arrived and went to the indoor hostess table: 3 women stood shoulder to shoulder greeting us, all unmasked. A server walked by, unmasked, through the dining room to the kitchen. I scanned the room and saw an unmasked bartender and 2 other unmasked servers. Throughout the course of dinner, servers came up to our table -- less than a foot away (never mind social distancing) -- none of whom wore masks.
