Greatly exceeded my expectations. The food took just a tad long but well worth the wait! You can see the care that they put into the food and in each plate individually. I would highly recommend this place if you like wine and gnocchi. This place will not let you down.
For the first time in many many years, having visited at least 50 times, I had a very disappointing evening at Lupa while celebrating my son's birthday. Food, and service were both subpar and not in keeping with what I have come to expect from Lupa.
Terrific pasta, an excellent Italian wine list, and professional and warm service extending even to the bus people.
Really a delicious kitchen but be careful if you order pasta with chanterelles. They’ll serve you oyster mushrooms and neither apologize Nor offer a discount unless you insist. And then they’ll be churlish about it.
Food and wine were excellent. Service was not. We were there a good 45 minutes and no waiter. Asked several times and finally got someone. I ate there previously and service was good. But when you bring guest and have 5 bottles of wine you expect decent service
The menu choices for someone who wants healthier options is practically non existent. All of the menu items, are buried in sauce or fried. I ordered a crispy fish; I spoke to the waiter about this entree in detail, however it was not clear to me that it was it batter fried. Not only was it fried, there was more batter covering than there was fish; HUGELY disappointing - - especially for the money. I have eaten at Lupa several times and I have always enjoyed my meal. This time, I got the impression new chef/new menu - not impressed!! Finally, the music was too loud; had to talk over it. Ridiculous!
My daughter and I had a great dinner at Lupa. Everything we ate was delicious. We each started with an Aperol Spritz, and then the sommelier recommended a perfect flinty, mineral-y white. We shared everything - artichoke hearts, broccolini, amazing fluke crudo (don't miss that!), cacio e pepe, and a hearty special lamb pasta. We couldn't pass up the tartufo for dessert, and ate all of the cheesecake, even though we didn't mean to! Hospitality at Lupa is warm and welcoming, and the noise level is comfortable for conversation.
I have been eating here for almost 20 years. We moved to California 12 years ago but Lupa is always a must when we return to NYC. I was so disappointed this time. My favorite dish (Ricotta Gnocci with Sausage & Fennel) was different this time. Cream was added and the sausage was not longer visible. The Saltimbocca was dry. The Braciola special was also dry. Sadly after 20 years, I may have to remove this restaurant from my "must list".
great restaraunt with delicious food and very fast service!
Very good dining experience. Good food and excellent service at a comfortable table for the four of us.
Staff was helpful and knowledgeable but food was a little underwhelming especially for the price. Atmosphere was loud and the heat of the room had us stepping outside for air to cool off
Lupa is always the best, and Victoria is the best waitress
Cacio e pepe is so good!!!!!!!! Great wine list too
if you order pasta (I chose the “pasta tasting” menu!) recommend it to be hot. Lukewarm pasta spoils the whole experience. Italian pasta should not just be “al dente”: you should see the smoke from your plate!
Superb food and exceptional attentive service in a ‘Friday night’ atmosphere- festive, fun. Great appetizers, perfect pasta dishes, and superb wine choices by sommelier. Our favorite spot in Washington Square area.
Absolutely loved this place. Every bite was delicious. Trendy but not at all pretentious. Attentive and friendly service, great wine. Will be back!
Truffle tasing menu was phenominal. The lamb was equally as good. One of the best meals in NYC I’ve ever had.
Great food, very friendly staff!
Lupa is always on point and one of our favorites. Their pastas are all perfectly prepared and full of flavor. Some favorites are the tripe appetizer, any pesto they are making, and the veal saltimboca.
Great service and excellent food cozy and professional at the same time
The food and service were very-good to excellent but our table, near the front door, was constantly disturbed by those waiting for tables, even to the point where people were knocking in to us, crowding our space and making it nearly impossible at times to have a conversation. The staff did nothing to remedy the situation, which definitely took away from our overall experience. What made this even more disappointing is that we had a reservation and having eaten at Lupa in the past, we had recommended the restaurant to the guests we had brought to the restaurant.
The food was as wonderful as it’s always been.
this is favorite place for pasta. there is always a special item but we keep going back to
our usual.....buccatini l'mericiana...... its the best. the staff is friendly and helpful. its a nice lively atmosphere. really fun at the bar, too.
Everything we ate was excellent and our waitress made the experience even better. She was so positive, excited and knowledgeable.
Lupa was awesome. The food was terrific, the service was great, the wine selection was huge! Glad I made a reservation because it filled up quick!! I would definitley come back if I go back down to the village.
The food and service were fantastic! A small ambuse Bouche to start. The cacio e Pepe pasta was fantastic. The oxtail ragu was served over a ‘gnocco’ - a delicious polenta cake with shaved celery for freshness- so tasty! Server and wine porter each offered great suggestions. Highly recommend!
Fresh homemade pasta, great atmosphere, and an extensive wine list, I highly recommend making a reservation and dining at Luna. A gem of a restaurant!
Chef James Kelly runs this place better than in it's entire run, the pasta is better than ever!!!
Awesome dinner, pasting tasting menu was a really cool experience and an amazing value
Luca is very cozy and the food is great. Point blank. They cater well to couples and small groups. Convenient to get to. They have an extensive wine list and flexible on modifying ingredients to accommodate diets.
Having been to Lupa at least 20-30 times before, it seemed like an easy choice for a celebratory family dinner.
Alas, how Lupa has changed.
Rubbish service, seated next to a noisy table of 15 men drinking copiously and shouting one would have thought that the staff would be even more attentive and try and make dinner an enjoyable, and if not enjoyable then a tolerable experience. Not so.
Staff didnt come by for ages after we were seated to get our drink order, and then took even longer to take our dinner order.
We asked for accompanying condiments like...salt??? and pepper, and lemons...basic stuff that didnt arrive well after our dishes had gotten cold and i had complained to the manager.
Plates were dirty when put down, food was nowhere near the quality of the past, pasta was not flavored and it felt like there was zero level of care in the cooking and the presentation.
Last but not least, we were seated in the back room (which is a lovely room except for the fact that we were seated at a table next to the employees locker room (freezing air every time they walked in and out of it and bumped into our chair- at least 15 times in the course of our dinner.
The entire experience was dismal, mediocre and disappointing.
Shame on Lupa for not trying to keep it together, or shut down, regroup and then re open.
Service was very spotty. Could not find som, waitress had to be called to give order etc. average to good service gets another star.
Great food but so so so loud
The food was totally different quality. They change chef
Trip to NY with family
We went into this dinner reservation with high expectations and it was better than we expected. Wow. Our waiter David was friendly & warm & knowledgeable with excellent suggestions. His timing was impeccable. The bar staff were accommodating & made us feel like locals for the only 5-10 minutes we waited for our table. The very warm welcomes are not particularly usual in New York so worth noting. The prosciutto aged 2 years and sliced deli style right in the front of the restaurant was sublime (and worth the extra 6 months) with melt in your mouth fresh mozzarella. We split a plate of squash/ricotta stuffed ravioli in a brown butter hazelnut sauce that was SUperb. For entrees we enjoyed the quail special and some kind of seared fish in broth that was transcendent. Don’t hesitate to dine here. We had theater tickets to “Tina” and it was so worth the trek out of tourist hell in midtown by our hotel to come down here before our show. Fantastic dinner!
The food at Lupa is incredible! The ambiance is charming and intimate-- if you don't like being in close quarters, this is not the restaurant for you. The last time we were there it was very busy and our service was quite slow. Even so, I love Lupa and will definitely be back!
My husband and I had our valentine’s dinner at Lupa’s. It was crowed and our seats were close to the door so a bit drafty.
The Pre fix was delicious and gave our a sampling of the food choices. The lobster pasta was al dente and delicious.
The olive oil cake was moist and tasty . I always wanted to try this place since Rachel Ray visited them and raved on their pasta. I will return to try the regular menu.
Overall nice ambiance and good food.
This was a perfect birthday/Valentine's Day dinner. Special menu. Perfect wine pairing. Dessert choices divine. We love sitting in the front room. Waitstaff excellent.
We had a reservation at 4:15 on a Friday. It happened to be Valentine’s Day. Three old friends. The restaurant was wide open and they crammed us into a table by the front door, which was freezing, and tried to force us into a really lame, expensive prix fixe. We left. We would have been in and out by 6:30, having spent the equivalent amount...for what we actually wanted. So lame.
