What Insiders Are Saying
Lupa is an ideal spot for that early-in-the-week dinner in Greenwich Village that you sort of want to cancel but can’t.
Best Italian I have ever had. The beets were delicate and very tasty, I'll be remembering those for a while. Good drinks as well.
David at the bar completely made the experience amazing.
Great Roman trattoria fare, home-made pasta, a little noisy since it’s popular .
Love this place! Every time I come to New York, it is the first event I plan. Delicious, rich food served in portions that don’t leave you miserable. Their gnocchi and ragus are amazing, excellent salads and prosciutto. Ambiance fabulous and a top notch staff.
Great food. The chicken was outstanding.
The bucatini was unbelievable, worth a stop just for that. Our waiter accidentally missed when pouring water though and drenched both my date’s and my own shoes, and didn’t mention it all haha, so that was...odd - but other than that, great meal and decently priced!
First time I’ve been here in ages, but never disappoints. Legit pasta, homey vibe - a classic.
We just love the warm and homey atmosphere - though a little loud - always full at the bar and tables - awesome for the restaurant! The foie gras crostini and bucotini americana were outstanding! The food is consistently good and always unique! There is lots of staff attention and the food comes out quickly. We love to go every time we are in NY, NY!
Service was not up to expectations. We were supris d.
Waitstaff was so knowledgeable and patient She was the highlight
Amazing as usual despite hostess trying to sit us at the worst table... we moved and the night was great!
Excellent food. The wine list is impressive. Good service as well. We had such an excellent evening. A special mention to the ricotta cheesecake that was sooo good !
I have been before and had a wonderful experience. This time the service was slow and the waitress didn’t come to the table except to take the order and serve it. I definitely will not return and will not recomend the restaurant
Seated late and our table was strangely situated where wait staff had to constantly slide behind me. But food was excellent. Loved our pastas.
Our server Jovan was great and the sommelier’s choices were excellent as well
Awesome place for great italian!
Lived in NY for many years, loved coming for the braciola, was very disappointed tonight. The whole recipe changed, not good did not finish it. Will not be back to do it again.
Food is always fabulous. It was a particularly busy Saturday night, so even with a reservation we had to wait for our table to become available. However, this is one of those places that you go to again and again. Our waitperson was the best - very attentive.
Fun spot, and the food is very good -- they nail what they are trying to do: Roman style. The back room where we were got pretty noisy, but that's part of the charm.
I’ve tried many Italian places, nothing compares.
Best Italian restaurant in the city, with great service and atmosphere, go to Lupa!
Excellent in every way.
Lupa is my favorite Italian restaurant in nyc. I love everything about it. I make reservations weeks ahead for dinner because they book up fast!
Amazing italian food! Cozy (read: tight fitting) atmosphere and a truly decadent Italian experience. The prosciutto was the best I've ever tasted, I didn't know it could be so good. The cacio e pepe is awesome and especially peppery vs cheesy, so be ready. My friend got the carbonara and I think that is definitely the move. Also really enjoyed the extremely rich ricotta cheesecake, wow. Service as average. The only strange thing was we ordered a bottle of wine and it was not opened in front of us.
The amatriciana was waaaaay too spicy. It was more like a very piccante arrabiata. The braised escarole was bland. I can make much more impressive carbonara. The salads were very underdressed, which is better than over dressed for sure, but still it was more like eating plain lettuce. The staff, all of them, were very good and accommodating. Wouldn’t go back with all the great options for Italian food in Manhattan.
One of the best meals I've ever had in my life. The cavatelli, sausage, and broccoli was truly incredible, and the Lamb Scottadito was unbelievable. Great atmosphere, and I can't wait to go back.
You need to carry Lambrusco or I have to stick to Morini!
We visit NY at least once a year and Lupa is always our first stop off the plane. Their food is consistently good, not just the regular menu but the specials. My husband swears by their whiskey sours and the Saltimboca. Their pastas are always fresh, my favorite is the one with short ribs ragu, tastes so home made. Service is always attentive but not overkill, they really let you linger with a cup of coffee or a Limoncello. We met a couple sitting next to us and this was their first visit to Lupa. I'm sure it won't be the last.
I was a bit disappointed during this visit at Lupa. Less care seems to be taken with the food. I’m a fan of the pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe which is the reason I go to Lupa. This time there was cauliflower in the pasta instead of broccoli rabe and the sausage pieces were quite large and vulgar to say the least. This used to be my favorite dish! What happened?! The green tea was bitter and of poor quality so I recommend they revisit their selection of loose leaf teas. I’m not sure I will go again after this visit. I could get really good prepared pasta at Eataly anytime.
We were 6 with an 8 month old. Staff was fabulous
Excellent Roman fare and great service. Beautiful space.
Food was wonderful and service was very good.
The food and here is consistently very good. A couple of caveats, though. If you arrive before your entire party does, they will not seat you except at the small bar only 3 feet or so from the tables. The space near the front desk is quite small, so standing there for any length of time is a pain. In the main dining room, there are two tables places perpendicular to others, resulting in a very crowded situation. If you are at one of these tables, you will have another customer from another party within 8-10 inches of you, seated perpendicularly, not back-to-back. My advice would be to decline these, unless you like that arrangement.
Excellent pasta. Service is passable. Nice ambiance.
Bad music, expensive for pasta dishes, but plenty of food and it was tasty
It was fantastic in every way. The service was great and very attentive and we did the pasta tasting menu which was not only phenomenal but also a phenomenal value.
We went to Lupa for the first time for Valentines Day this year. It has a Valentine’s Day special set menu but also allow you to order off the regular menu. We ordered the Roman tasting from the regular menu. Everything was SOOOOOOOO delicious!!! The service was great too! Absolutely loved it and will be back!
My favorite Italian restaurant
The perfect blend of great food, fair prices,
pasta to die for, a great and reasonable wine
list. The staff is knowledgable and efficient.
The buzz is just right, you can have a conversation or flirt
and understand your dining partner. It is also fabulous for lunch.
