We had to use our phone flashlights to be able to read the menu and the wine list. It was very dark in the room.
The four of enjoyed our meals very much! Looking forward to our next visit!
Excellent food & service. Nice price range from mid teens to mid 20s. Wine list included many $20-30 bottles to explore. You can spend a lot or not. Will be back often.
Also loved the cafe for mid morning or mid afternoon coffee, biscotti or gelato. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Great birthday dinner!
I was hoping this restaurant would be as good as the Petit Louis restaurant it replaced. To be honest, it was good but could be better. The cod dish I had was fairly bland but the fish was baked well. The dessert was excellent though and the salad was good but nothing amazing. I prefer not to have to add seasoning ( pepper, salt) to a meal to make it more flavorful in the hope that the ingredients of the meal itself will provide that. May be other dishes were more naturally this way and I didn't chose a flavorful dish. Though it is not in Columbia, for those using Open Table, I would still recommend Sotta Sopra as the best Italian restaurant in the Baltimore metro area.
Food was excellent, server was knowledgeable, cocktail and wine list was creative. It is much more relaxed and warm the Petit Louis was without sacrificing the quality of food
We went for brunch. Although the food was good, it was not a typical brunch menu. Lupa was advertised as a more casual place than Petit Louis, the menu did not reflect this. Therefore there were not many brunch choices. I would return for lunch.
First things first: Columbia, MD really needed a place like this! We've been waiting for an authentic go-to restaurant in this area to legitimately "compete" with Stanford Grill, our other area favorite, for a long time. This was our first visit to Lupa, and we're committed to making ourselves regulars here. The buzz on a Saturday night was tangible and contagious. We've dined at all the other Foreman-Wolf Baltimore area restaurants: Charleston, Cinghiale, Petit Louis (Roland Park), Bar Vasquez and Johnny's. We love the Foreman-Wolf "system." Service is always personable and knowledgeable. The ambiance is perfect with dim lighting and nice decor. There is plenty of comfortable bar seating; some patrons were dining at the bar. Cindy Wolf's kitchens are creative and consistently good. Lupa is no exception; it shares its executive chef with their Italian eatery located in Harbor East, Cinghiale. The portions at Lupa are larger than normal, so sharing is apparently encouraged. We probably overate (my wife insists), but everything we had was delicious. We started with Prosciutto di Parma (aged 24 months) with dates and mint and a baby artichoke, shaved fennel and lemon vinaigrette salad. These were excellent appetizers. They make their pastas in house daily, so that's what we had for our entrees: spaghetti alla chitarra with lamb meatballs; and squid ink spaghetti with grilled calamari and shrimp. Their pastas are plentiful, hearty and wonderful! One thing we really like about the Foreman-Wolf restaurants is the wine service. Lupa has sommeliers on staff and a temperature-controlled cellar, which isn't typical in the burbs. We shared a very nice Sangiovese Reserva with dinner. Overall, it was a great first experience at Lupa. Can't wait to go back.
Service was a bit slow...I had reservations for 7pm arrived 7:02 and wasn’t seated until almost 7:30. Had to go back to hostess to ask about my seating arrangement. The server was slow at first to acknowledge our presence and then came back every 5 mins when we hadn’t yet made a decision. when asking for recommendations the reply was “what are you in the mood for”. Our bottle of wine was set up at the wrong table Oh well....we still had a good time...I guess new restaurants have some kinks to work out...the gelato was to die for.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Lupa, although the restaurant was extremely loud, making it difficult to carry on a conversation. The food was excellent!
It was our first visit to Lupa, but won't be our last. The grilled calamari was good, but the lamb meatballs were fantastic. The pan-seared bronzino was very good, but the veal scallopini was excellent. The house made Gelati menu was extensive, but I can personally say that the affogato was quite tasty. We were seated in a small side room, which was intimate and away from the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant. Lupa may very well become one of our go-to restaurants.
Loved this restaurant! We had three people, and per the waiter’s recommendation shared several dishes. All of the pastas were good, but I especially loved the gnocchi in mushroom sauce; pillows of gnocchi were tender and the sauce was incredibly tasty. My son’s favorite pasta was the bucatini all’ Amatriciana. The rapini sautéed in garlic was an excellent side to complement the pasta dishes. My husband and son both also enjoyed the apple and fennel salad, recommended by our waiter, which was served on a bed of arugula. Lua’s Roma style dining definitely reminded me of the incredible food I enjoyed in Rome many years ago. Will be back!
The food was good but in the squid ink pasta, there was too much pasta and the calamari was only a garnish rather than an integral part of the dish.
Lupa needs a bit more time to get its kitchen and service together. I also thought it would be more casual and traditional Italian. I was disappointed.
New restaurant so some bumps here and there but will return. Salad appetizers very good. Pasta fresh. Friendly waitstaff.
Service was very slow. My meal was awful. Pasta was tough and did not taste the brown butter sauce. Tiramisu was more like chocolate gelatin.
Wonderful food, amazing service and appreciated the owner stopping by yo talk and check in everything. It is quickly becoming our go to Italian restaurant in the area.
Nice. But average
An excellent first visit to this wonderful restaurant.
We gave a three star rating because Lupa isn’t really up to expectations. As time goes on, we know it will improve. The esteemed Owners will see to that.
We found the menu to be adventurous but not Family Friendly. We thought the menu should give a better definition (in English) so that the diner knows what they are eating. Children and adults with simple tastes would not be encouraged to return...except perhaps for the pizza and gelato.
Also, on friend of ours could not understand the waitress’ accent and had a difficult time until I helped her out. The waitress was very kind, pleasant and wanted to help but there was a language barrier.
We will definitely come again and try new dishes. The food was good; but , not yet the level we expect.
Delish - loved my homemade pasta and gelato. Salad was also amazing.
Sad to see Petit Louis go, but thrilled Lupa is now open. Lupa is great for people and families who want a good experience at a moderate price, and also for people who enjoy fine dining. The combination of wood oven pizza, home made pastas and gelato should be a crowd pleaser. For those looking for entrees that are more substantial, there is a lot to choose from. You could make a great meal on the appetizers as well! Great addition to Columbia!
This is our first dining experience at Lupa, which replaced Petit Louis. We were disappointed that Petit Louis closed but are very pleased with Lupa. Everything about Lupa embodies the high quality that you find at all of the Foreman Wolf restaurants.
The menu has a good selection of appetizers, pasta dishes and main courses. The wine list is very reasonably priced and the service continues to be excellent.
We started our meal with the Lamb Meatballs. My wife chose the Veal Scallopini and I had the Anolini di Pollo, which is a chicken and parmigiano filled pasta served on a brown sauce. We ended the meal with a shared ricotta mousse and vanilla ice creme.
Everything about the meal was as they say, magnifico! The evening more than met our expectations and we are looking forward to dining at Lupa again. It is not just a place for special occasion dining. Lupa is a very good everyday Italian restaurant.
Good food, upscale Italian. Lovely by the lake in Columbia
Everything was good.
Please ask management to put a latch on one of the stalls in the ladies room. No excuse for that!!
Enjoyed our evening, interesting menu and comfortable ambiance.
8 adults gathered for a family birthday celebration. It was a great evening. Food, service, ambience were all fantastic. The atmosphere felt formal without feeling pretentious. Mario (or server) did a remarkable job of reading the table and making appropriate recommendations.
As far as the food, while everything was above average, we had rave reviews for the gnocchi, the lamb, and one of the best pieces of cod we’d ever been served. We finished the evening with either a fantastic tiramisu or a double scoop of excellent gelato. The Olive Oil flavor may have been my favorite.
Will definitely dine here again.
Great addition to Columbia's dining scene. Classic Roman with homemade pasta. Superior service, welcoming atmosphere.
Don't miss the lamb meatball appetizer and tiramisu gelato. Food and service was terrific - check it out! Have dined in main room bar and cafe so far. The bar / main dining room is a wonderful spot for a date. Cafe is perfect for a quick pizza with kids, gelato or an espresso.
Lupa focuses on Roman cuisine and a solid wine and cocktail list. Service was extremely attentive and the food spot on. We tried the Fiorentina Steak and the Cacio e Pepe. Next time we'll try the Rabbit.
I was at Lupa on the second day they were open and I have to say the service was very good as was the food. There were a few small missteps but it was only the second day so a misstep or two is completely understandable. Back to the food ,the shrimp risotto was amazing as was the mushroom bruschetta. I will be back soon.
New favorite place for date night, will definitely come back again.
Fantastic ambience, service and food! The transition to Lupa from Petit Louis was seamless.
We were excited to see how Tony Foreman re-purposed the Columbia version of Petite Louis, and we weren't disappointed. Less formal, but very friendly atmosphere. Service need to be worked out (we were there the weekend it opened) but the food more than made up for it. Fresh ingredients, creatively prepared. We'll definitely return.
Thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience! Great food and great staff! Highly recommended! Will definitely be back!
Wonderful new restaurant. Excellent food and service. So happy to welcome this restaurant to Columbia.
