Luna Ristorante - Concord
Jacifi describes his menu as a blend of new and old: “You get old-school tastes with a modern presentation.” The restaurant specializes in northern and southern Italian standards like saltimbocca, chicken cacciatore, and risotto. But the eighteen-year-old Luna takes these familiar dishes very seriously. Redoune, partner and co-chef Hafid Tadri, and co-chef Habib Jacifi don’t so much replicate the old standards as define them.
Take the fettuccini with Bolognese sauce. Many restaurants make a Bolognese; few do it well. Like the sly smile on the lips of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous lady, this brick red sauce reveals a depth of character beyond its simple appearance. Carrots, celery, and onions add a layer of sweetness, while bacon contributes a sultry, meaty backbone.
Very disappointing evening! Made a reservation for 7 people at 6:15. We were seated at a reserved table upon entering. Shortly after, I assume the chef came out and questioned if we had a reservation and what name it was under. I showed him the Open Table confirmation on my phone. He then told us that he had personally reserved this table some time ago for a 'special' dinner for another group. I think he expected us to leave as there were no other large tables available. I told him the mix-up/confusion wasn't my problem, at which point he told us that it was fine and to enjoy our dinner. The food was mediocre at best! One of our party ordered the beet salad. Normally that would mean that majority of the salad was beets. Her salad was mostly lettuce with 4 or 5 beets around it. The bolognese was dry and the meatballs hard. In my opinion, under no circumstances should guests be questioned if there is problem with reservations. As I told the chef, the confusion was not my problem! I felt his behavior and demeanor were totally unacceptable and rude. As a result, I will never return to this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone!!
Small, intimate, local Italian place with nice decor and ambience and a small but interesting menu. Nothing super fancy or super special, but everything was well done and there is a nice variety from which to choose. Overall would recommend for a good night out.
Luna is a rather small space put to very good use. Service was very good to excellent. Our server took good care of us without hovering. When we needed him, he was there quickly. The food. The food was excellent, my lamb shank was off the bone tender. My dining partner had one of the seafood and pasta dishes and loved it! We will return, and bring more friends. Good food, good service, good price.
We did not stay and eat. The only table was by the entrance less than 5’ from the door. I would be curious to know if the patrons all had reservations. We were dissatisfied.
Good service great staff plenty parking
Gemm in the neighborhood
Again we had a wonderful dinner starting with muscles in an excellent creamy and flavorful sauce, then we had pasts with plenty of seafood, penne pasta in pesto sauce with chicken, & carbonara. All very tasty, copious and well presented. Desserts were very good as usual, especially the tiramisu. I enjoyed the panda cota. A very pleasant evening. Therefore, I highly recommend this restaurant and we will keep coming back.
Food and service was excellent! Small and perfect spot for a quiet dinner spot!
Excellent food with good service. Went for lunch, only had one person doing all the hosting and waitering.
nice intimate setting with great food and service. we will be back.
This restaurant is a winner! First we were welcome by a pleasant woman with as big smile. We got the table we had asked for. The service was very good and attentive and the pace of serving perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. My husband had a generous plate of bruschetta trio and I loved the mushroom gnocchi served with a delicious sauce. I had the Gamberi Luna and my husband had the pescatore pasta. Both delicious. We finished with the best tiramisu I have ever eaten. And the prices are very reasonable. To top it all, Habib the chef/owner came over for a chat in his usual warm welcoming manner. We definitely will keep coming to this restaurant.
Fantastic experience! They were busy, so instead of waiting for a table, we sat at the bar. The chef offered me a complimentary glass of wine for the trouble. Amazing gluten free options and I did not get sick! Had a three course meal and even the meatballs are gluten free. Incredible experience and I will make sure to return when I’m back in town. Thank you Luna!!
Food was very delicious and ambience is very relaxed. This is a casual restaurant with very good food. The mushroom risotto appetizer was our favorite.
Waiter forgot about us for over 40 minutes read us the specials and never came back. Table sat after us was ordered and served by the time we ordered. Food was delicious and the bus/ water girl was spot on. Only wish when I mentioned to what looked like the manager she would have apologized for mistake by the waiter.
As always, excellent service and delicious food!
Before entering this tiny restaurant our noses were flooded with the smells of Italian cooking. We got a great bottle of Barolo wine and had appetizers which were fantastic! I order the lasagna, my husband - veal picatta; my friend ordered the Choppino as did my 95 year old mother-in-law ( which was surprising since she always order steak) There was nothing left to take home. An amazingly 👏 delicious meal. We all agreed to be back soon.
Though my friend wasn’t able to make it to dinner tonight, I had an excellent experience. The service was great and the food was amazing. I even got to order her food to go. Will definitely visit again.
Good salads & service
The food and service, and wine was great as usual!
Had the seafood lasagna. Disappointing. Contained overcooked salmon and some kind of overcooked whitefish (halibut?) no crab or shrimp. Not served with any vegetable(s).
Nice place. Will re visit. Encourage them to remember the phrase… ‘it’s the little things” ! With a very limited bar menu, make absolutely sure you have all the ingredients to make your offerings. Cocktails are a fun part of the evening! Train staff not to put the specials board up for display until you have updated it for the day. No one really wants to see yesterday’s specials. Again…the little things…if the menu says a salad has candies walnuts…be prepared and have them on hand. Lots of little misses can add up to big ones.
We will be back, staff is very friendly!
One of my favorites in Concord. They always seem happy to see you. Food is consistently good.
We had a reservation and were seated upon arrival. Service was good, maybe a little slow, but not annoying. Food was excellent, value was definitely there. We will return, hopefully very soon.
Delicious and wonderful food a great lunch to celebrate anything. The gnocchi appetizer is especially rich and delicious!
We had a 7pm reservation and they were busy - we had to wait and didn’t get seated until 7:45. However, once we ordered and started getting food- the food was delicious! Definitely worth the wait. The gnocchi appetizer and ravioli main course were my favorites but everything we tried and shared family style was delicious. We will be back.
The food was delicious! Loved the combination of Spanish, Moroccan, and Italian cuisine. I would definitely eat there again despite the long wait.
Excellent service! Friendly wait staff, excellent food. The prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be back.
Such a pleasant experience! Wonderful time had by all!
Delicious food and excellent service as always. Thank you Habib for a wonderful experience.
Not much good here. We made a reservation and no one checked us in. Wine list is poor. They ran out of the only California Sav Blanc on the menu. They only had one waiter and we were ignored for a long time.
Food was poor. My shrimp dish had five shrimp and my roasted vegetables gave me 2 slices of zucchini. The chicken picatta was not good either.
Our first experience here was so good, we went back with friends. Once again we were pleased with the lovely dining room, excellent food and outstanding service.
Food was not true Italian food. I ordered veal scallopini with marsala. I could not even taste the marsala because they added Gorgonzola cheese!! This was not listed under description of item. It masked any flavor of the veal or marsala.
My wife and I used to live in the East Bay and had dinner a number of times at Luna years ago. On a recent visit to the Bay area, some friends asked me to make a dinner reservation somewhere so we could get together. I thought of Luna and am very happy I did. While the service was a bit slow, the quality of the food all 4 of us had more than made up for that slight deficiency. I know I won't hesitate at all eating there again the next time I'm in the area.
The front of the house was a disaster - 7:00 reservation and we got seated in a CROWDED dining room 30 minutes late. We were informed that an opentable reservation wasn’t really a reservation. We ended up dining outside at the tables we had been sitting at while waiting. Inside dining room appeared to take no distancing precautions - dining room was full of tables and all tables were full. All in party agreed food was very good as was service but the first 30 minutes was a hot mess. Will eat here again after we believe it is safe to do so.
Just a little off. Had to find a shell plate for ciopinno shells. Hadto ask for more bread
Just outstanding! This was our FIRST indoor dining since the pandemic and very special night - everything was perfect from the outstanding food to the service to the incredibly warm hospitality of the owner and team - first rate all the way! Many thanks!
Luna was very nice and I highly recommend the place
It's been a few years since we went to Luna, so I did not know what to expect.
WOW! Everything we ordered was outstanding. The fish dish I ordered usually has the shell fish cooked with over cooked salmon etc.
Not here, the whole dish was perfect. The Gnocchi in a mushroom sauce good enough to order as a main course. The beet salad as good as it gets. The brulee cheese cake is beyond my ability to do it justice.
We will be back.
Service was flawless.
I’m happy to have found an upscale Italian restaurant with easy parking, excellent service, good food and ambience, and reasonable prices. I have already made another reservation.
Love Luna. Sat at the bar. It was really nice, got to talk with the chef and staff. Dinner was delicious as always. A real gem in Concord.
