Luna Ristorante - Concord
Jacifi describes his menu as a blend of new and old: “You get old-school tastes with a modern presentation.” The restaurant specializes in northern and southern Italian standards like saltimbocca, chicken cacciatore, and risotto. But the eighteen-year-old Luna takes these familiar dishes very seriously. Redoune, partner and co-chef Hafid Tadri, and co-chef Habib Jacifi don’t so much replicate the old standards as define them.
Take the fettuccini with Bolognese sauce. Many restaurants make a Bolognese; few do it well. Like the sly smile on the lips of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous lady, this brick red sauce reveals a depth of character beyond its simple appearance. Carrots, celery, and onions add a layer of sweetness, while bacon contributes a sultry, meaty backbone.
Fantastic Italian food and a nice quiet atmosphere. The service was quick and friendly, and the menu was full of great options. A neighborhood gem.
Great food! I wouldn't get the bruschetta again because too cheesy, but everything else was great! Nice, quiet, quaint, place. Friendly and timely service. Would definitely go back!
Wonderful cuisine at reasonable prices. Variety of tasty Italian/Mediterranean entrees with a nice wine list and tasty desserts.
My friend and I each had a salad for lunch. The ingredients looked and tasted fresh. Portions weren't generous, but were ample. Our reservations were at noon. Between noon - 1:30 we were the only diners in the restaurant - surprising - thus it was very quiet.
Food was enjoyable but service was lacking attentiveness.
See my ratings. Food, service, and value was very good.
Delicious food and excellent service. The interior could use a renovation but overall a very good experience. I had the linguine with shrimp and crab in white sauce and my husband had the pesto penne with chicken - both delicious!
We always go to the sister restaurant Fiore and Luna did not disappoint. Excellent meal, I would definitely return.
Great value, quiet and pleasant atmosphere, food is good!
Luna Ristorante is one of the few Italian restaurants in the area that serve authentic Italian food. All of the pastas are homemade and so fresh.
We have never had a bad meal at Luna. They have good service and the prices are lower than many other places.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was excellent, the service was very good. Only one comment that I have to say is that there are times that special events are put on the reservation. You should pay attention to that. My wife and I were celebrating our 49th anniversary. We intend to come back for our 50th next year.
Food was delicious. And we could hear ourselves talking!!!
We first ate here years ago and for some reason haven't been back. We visited on Saturday night and boy did we get a treat! First the bread they bring to your table is amazing and baked fresh. We split a Caesar salad and it was very tasty with lots of spices and flavor. I had the mushroom, prawn, crab, brocolli and tomato pasta dish; it was so flavorful I almost ate the generous portion. My husband had the pescatore and he said the flavor was awesome and all the seafood was super fresh. We could not get dessert because we were so full; next time! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was a bit pricey but was so worth the delicious food.
Great food great service
Will definitely go there again
Great food, desserts were heaven!
Have not been here for a couple years and was happy to say it is a good as I remmeber
Food is good with plenty selections from the menu. The service is very poor and slow with only one waiter to handle an almost full-house guests.
Very nice restaurant with good food that is artfully presented. Felt their timing was off on a bit so very busy lunchtime. Order salads and entree. Before we were finished salads our entree arrived. Had to set it aside so we could finish salads because if table space and their large dishes. Then when set set the salad plates off to the side they were not removed for quite awhile which made it all feel crowded and rushed. Waiter better than his assistant who could not manage a smile m. But I will give them another try because it is a nice little place with very good food.
Heard you were under new owners only to learn that the nephew had taken over.
Same wonderful service and food. Will happily return.
Nice atmosphere, delicious food, courteous and prompt service, affordable prices
This is a great restaurant! The food was fantastic, started with a watermelon caprese salad and then had the special crab ravioli. Everything was delicious with just the right amount of food. Wine prices are also very reasonable. We will go back again.
A fair attempt at being great.
Would be lovely if the kitchen had better quality control.
Flavors had a good foundation but the levels of seasoning varied wildly between the dishes—one pasta dish we HD was severely under-seasoned and another one was oversalted horribly.
The presentation was good overall.
A slightly better quality balsamic and olive oil would elevate the whole experience greatly.
Was a very relaxing dinner. Food and service were excellent
This WAS our favorite go to special place, until last night. Seems that there has been an ownership change and it’s noticeable. The food qualityq has dropped, service is slow and quite indifferent to the customers. There was a lot of ‘waiting’ we experienced. That was out last visit!
We have been to this place many times over the years but it's been awhile since the last time. Things have changed. The food was just okay where it had been very good in the past. The large beet salad was listed on the menu as coming with cheese and walnut. It came with beets, a couple pieces of lettuce, 1 cherry tomato, 2 olives, no cheese. Disappointing. I also had severe stomach issues later in the evening. I'm guessing that some changes have occurred at the place and not for the better. We've lost a very good Italian restaurant in Concord.
The service is always impeccable, the food is authentic, the atmosphere is romantic and yet suitable for the family. I always as the waiter for the Seafood Risotto which is offered occasionally as a special but they always make it special for me! They also accommodate your every need from window seating, outdoor seating, anything!
Luna is a nice little spot but lacks a bit of atmosphere and the service seems to be slipping a bit. It felt as if the waitress did not have a great knowledge base around the flow of a dining experience, nor did she know the menu, history of the establishment etc. (example: we ordered lamb chops but there was no request for temperature of the meat....you just get what you get, apparently. Food was nice. Nothing wildly inspired but if you're looking for a spot you can pop into with jeans and a ball cap and get a decent bite to eat at a reasonable price, this is your place.
Started with the beet salad. Tasted fresh. Had the gnocchi with sausage as a main course. Nice and soft gnocchi and the sauce was very good. Had a limoncello cake for dessert. Waiter was a bit inattentive, but all in all it was a 4 star night.
A restaurant you can always count on for a wonderful meal ! From the bread to the appetizers to the soup to the main courses to dessert . Well worth it ! Thank you Luna Ristorante !
Attentive service and tasty dishes: garlic bread, watermelon caprese salad, spicy tomato sauce on pasta. Only quibble is the pasta was a tiny bit overdone but the sauce was delicious and even better the next day! A perfect dinner for a quiet reunion dinner with friends I hadn't seen in a long long time.
There were 6 of us. We had excellent service, food was great and we were not rushed. Chef made a visit to the table we all complimented him on our dining experience.
I don't understand how a restaurant doesn't sell bottled water especially when their tab water has a horrible after tase. I couldn't eat anything and ended up wasting my money since I don't eat left overs.
Will never go there again.
Food cold; pork loin dry, flies around the table, table top broken. Waiter did not recognize my reservation. I have eaten at Luna several times and the food was good. Not sure what happened this day.
Food was excellent and the service was great as always
This is an elegant and romantic white tablecloth restaurant in the heart of downtown Concord. The Rack of Lamb was very tender and delicious with the meat falling off the bone and the appetizer of mushroom gnocchi was fantastic. Our desserts of chocolate molten cake and the profiteroles were excellent renditions of these favorites. There are about a dozen wines by the glass including Italian and California selections. The ambiance is very romantic. The service was impeccable. Our server and backup staff were very friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant and there are several parking garages nearby.
There was a small issue with the reservation as our table had not left yet but the staff was very thoughtful and found us a table that was more than adequate. The service was great and the food very good. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
I went to The Luna about ten years ago when I knew someone in Concord and I remember the food as exquisite--exquisite enough to urge a friend to make a trip from Berkeley. In particular, I remember exquisite appetizers and generous servings of pasta. Neither were the case--and I'm sure this wasn't just the nostalgia of memory, because I remember the dishes and the ingredients. The service was lovely and attentive. And except for Frank Sinatra, the ambience was refreshingly like an Italian neighborhood restaurant in New York that hasn't been discovered. I hope The Luna returns to its original recipes. It used to be a hidden gem.
Everything was excellent, plan to go there next month.
Love the place, was my 3rd time, food great but need more waitress to be better
