Luna Piena Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
I was part of a group of three. I found my house wine selection excellent and the service overall outstanding. I ordered lentil soup and chicken parmesan. The accompanying pasta was a bit too mushy, but overall the combination of pasta and chicken parmesan was very tasty. I truly enjoyed it. My wife ordered pasta vongole and was very disappointed. She said her pasta too was mushy and the clam sauce was very bland — very little clam taste and virtually no seasoning. Our guest ordered salmon which she barely touched, but the fish looked fresh and nicely prepared to me, and the accompanying vegetables looked well cooked. So overall, I give the food quality a “good” rating using an adjusted average of three persons. But we all agreed the service was truly extraordinary and the bread was very tasty. The garden is very attractive. We did not realize there was pretty nice live music up front. I will definitely come back.
I always enjoy dining at LP. The staff is friendly (and remember me), the food is good, the room is pretty. Be aware that there is often live music and the garden (when full) can be loud... so location of table is important. Alas, twice I have ordered and the wrong food arrived. The staff was very accommodating on both counts - with the bill and with a complimentary round of drinks. I will return and recommend LP to others - but more attention needs to be paid to special orders.
this was my second meal, 4th visit. it was hard not to have the same thing because it was so good but i made myself. i hope to go back because there was a special that someone else had and she gave me her leftovers. i forgot it at my father's and well - let's just say he got them... I also need to try more desserts.
When we checked their menu on the Open Table site we saw they offered a daily menu very reasonably priced. The text was "daily menu" and did not see any exclusion for the week-end. The menu given to us at the restaurant also showed Daily Prix Fix (spelled Prefex) Menu did not mention "excluding Sunday or week-end or Monday-Friday, etc." . The server told us it was not possible to order from this menu during the week-end. We had to order from the regular menu or the brunch special menu. The Food served was at best "passable". These are the reasons I checked "I do not recommend" this restaurant.
The back patio is enclosed but gets beautiful light. We happened to dine while two very large groups were there, so probably a bit noisier than usual. Our dishes: a very fresh fish, mushroom ravioli with a rich creamy sauce, surprisingly deep flavor on a good ol' spaghetti with homemade meatballs. The skirt steak was just right med-rare, but surprised that it came out as slices of steak instead of a whole piece. Served by a nice but very novice waiter. We'd be happy to return.
The food was above average. Both the fish and pasta meals were exceptional. Our waiter was a little hard to understand and not friendly. Once he delivered our meal he never came back - even to ask if we wanted dessert. We had to flag someone down to get the check.
This was one of the most disappointing dinners My family has ever had. I never write reviews but feel compelled by how badly we were treated.
The service was horrendous.
We had a 730 reservation and the restaurant was busy but not overbooked. After placing our order (straight off the menu, no modifications) It was three appetizers (2 salads and a Caprese) and four main dishes (chicken parm, 2 branzino and one plain pasta with butter ... super basic items off the menu). The apps came ... but then nothing else. After about another 45 min of waiting and asking the wait staff several times the status of our main dishes (and a table of dirty dishes from apps that they never cleared), they would not give any updates (and we still had to ask for our table to be cleared).
we asked the manager to come over. She was not at all helpful except to say casually "sorry that happened" but didn't try to solve the problem. The food took another 15 -20 min to arrive. No additional drinks were offered (let alone asked if we needed anything?!)
The manager then proceeded to disappear and was no where to be found when it was time for our bill. They gave us $10 off, which was a joke. (The meal was several hundred dollars). The waiter then apologized and said it was supposed to be 10% off which it clearly wasn't. We asked for the manager and the waiter said sheepishly that he didn't know where she went. This is a Friday at 930pm now and the manager can't be found?!
We have been going to this restaurant for years and it was a quaint neighborhood spot that was reasonably priced. Admittedly, we have not been in awhile and expected we would get the "old" experience. The food is overpriced for what it is and well the service is what I just described.
DO NOT GO. Save your money and time. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that are happy to serve you and you can have a better experience.
I have been going to Luna Piena for years - my office was down the block, and it just gets better and better. My most recent meal with a friend included an excellent mushroom soup which we both loved, burratta with prosciutto, arugula and mango, and a seafood pasta with homemade linguine. The menu and food seem to get better with each visit.
Very comfortable restaurant with very good food. We started at the bar for happy hour and enjoyed our wine with bread, olives and oil. Yum. At dinner I had a very tasty chicken parmesan with pasta. Others at my table had the fish of the day and pasta vongole. All was very good. The back seating area under a glass roof is very nice. Nothing here is spectacular, but it's a very nice place to come and I will be here again.
Loved the meal. Requested garden area...pretty but a little warm even with the fans running after a mild summer day. I imagine it would be perfect on a fall evening.
Food was delicious. Our party enjoyed both seafood and pasta items.
Very attentive wait staff. Will return. Great neighborhood restaurant.
The food tastes horrible and the service was terrible. The water sprinklers in the garden got broken twice during our lunch. My coat got soaked the first time and we had to move to another table inside. Even with that, they still charge the food and 20% service fees. Will never go back!
I went to Luna Piena this past Friday. My friend said her meal was inedible. We sent it back for another entrée which was as bad. The only thing the restaurant offered us was one scoop of gelato on the house for both of us. I should have asked not be charged for her meal but have never had this situation before. I left a note with my name and phone number with my credit card slip but didn't hear back from them. My entrée was gummy but edible. Very disappointing. The waiters were sympathetic - just nothing they could do.
