Luminarias Ratings and Reviews
Service and entertainment great. Food was horrible and cold. We went to Luminarias for Thanksgiving brunch. No regular mashed potatoes, only garlic. Stuffing was dry and super salty. No sweet potatoes. Only one pumpkin pie to feed about 100. Pumpkin pie was horrible. Cheap champagne in mimosas. Seems like management just bought a bunch of random crap at Smart and Final and put it out for consumption. For $50 per person I would expect a little better. ADA compliant but not elderly friendly as there is only one ramp inside restaurant and many stairs. Deeply saddened that the only "nice place" that is East LA adjacent is such a disappointment. Next year we shall drive a little further and spend a little bit more at the Dal Rae. Bye Luminarias!
Chicken fajitas were great! Tasty and tender! I don't like tomatoes, so the green and red peppers, onions and chicken mixed in well. I also don't eat Spanish rice, so I had double refried beans, delicious! My partner had the carnitas, they were tasty and tender too! We also had the fried ice cream, it is a must!
Our server was very attentive, but not pushy; she genuinely seemed interested in making sure we had a wonderful time, and we did! The 6 people that were 2 tables away from us seemed to be getting a little too much to drink (they were well on their way when we got there, and still going at it when we left), and therefore louder than expected for this room... that's the only reason I only rated only 4 stars on "ambiance", which really wasn't the restaurant's fault, I guess. Bottom line: we will definitely be returning!
Not even joking, when we approached the hostess, she said, “do you need something?” Fortunately the server was more friendly. Food was either mediocre or too spicy to tell how it tasted. Place was empty at 6:30 on a Friday night, so maybe everyone else already knew what we learned.
In a review I'm inclined to let everyone know the negatives of this joint. So, first off, the selection was a bit overwhelming. There was a room full of food. A bar to get freaky made chilaquiles, Benedicts and omelettes. Then there was the carving station and the outdoor grill with carne asada, pollo, sausage, and of course all of the fixings! I mean, how much can one person eat! Second. Fresh Benedicts and chilaquiles? Who does that? Can't you just stick to the days of old and provide the soggy English muffin, lukewarm eggs, and slightly congealed hollandaise? And finally.. this puts it over the top: chocolate fountain. You already expect me to wander this restaurant selecting my own food, and now I'm provided fresh strawberries, pineapple, rice Krispy treats, marshmallows, etc. And you want me to dip them in chocolate, to my own liking?
You have really disappointed me. We will be back!
The restaurant has removed the mariachi on Saturdays. Very pricey for no entertainment. I specifically stated that we were celebrating my sons birthday and they didn’t even acknowledge it. My family and I have been coming here for brunch for years. Very disappointed; will have to find a new place.
Nice place for dinner and entertainment. Food is very good, pretty clean and neat environment. Just one thing that bothered me was that it took long time for the waitress to take care of us. They had a big table next to us full of people but I believe the restaurant must be prepared for this type of circumstances. We all deserve an effective and good customer service.
Thanks to the manager that approached to our table to ask if we were ok and the motive of our visit there. He sent us a piece of cake and champagne to celebrate my wedding anniversary. Nice detail
I had the best time ever!! Rachel was THE BEST. From my reservations to accommodating my guest the day of the event was so so sweet!! Food was amazing. The selections the cooks the hosts, everything and everyone was fantastic!! Thanks for making my 50th bday celebration perfect!!
Every time my husband and I go to LA (from Sac), we have brunch and Luminarias. The food is great; everyone seems to enjoy it and the staff is very friendly and attentive. We typically have reservations for as soon as they open so food is usually hot/fresh and not picked over. The price seems to have jumped up somewhat since the last time we were there. I don't know the going rate for buffet brunches so I can't compare, but the price jump is enough to make me consider whether to continue this long standing tradition since this is usually our gift to local family members/friends (a least a dozen of us). That along with the fact the older I get the less I eat; so I am not sure the $49.99 per person is worth it for me. On the fence; but we really do enjoy it so I probably will go back.
Very nice place for a total dining experience!!! The view, decor, ambiance, staff (super friendly), buffet selection was well worth it. We were able to take our time and not feel rushed at all. The buffet had a full selection of great cuisine. Hard to choose which desserts to put on your plate!!! So much to choose from. Highly recommend Luminarias. Definitely!
Luminarias is a great place the old school Mexican decor and food are great. The location is awesome up on a hill will a beautiful view of the San Gabriel mountains. Also L.A. highlights. I love this place, seafood is out of this world. We go for Christmas and birthdays. Great, great Mariachi awesomeness. I always recommend this little gem of Monterey Park.
Seating was very fast and the view was great. I initially made reservations online and specifically put that this was a special occasion for my fiances Birthday. Service was kinda slow even though it was a slow night. At the conclusion of the meal I hinted about her Birthday to the waitress and she sinply rolled her eyes and disappeared. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was arranging the Birthday song and dessert but she came back with the check. I mentioned to her if they do anything special for Birthdays and she said "NO, we don't do stuff like that at this restaurant. So I will never return back here for any special occasion. I will say the food was great as well as the drinks and atmosphere. But please don't waste your time here with a special occasion.
Met with friends for brunch on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they opened.
Food was okay, none of entrees were hot even though they had just opened.
Bacon was cold, no one at carving station. Music extremely loud and stayed in one spot so
was very difficult to carry on conversation.
