Lulu California Bistro Ratings and Reviews
LULU's is great, centrally located, fun large menu, outdoor seating. My only observation was that we arrived at 9pm and ordered the 3 course and it all came out at once. Server apologized but it still was kind of crazy.`
The reception desk was too busy to even look at me. It was confusing who to follow to our table. The waiters were good. The food was mediocre. I will no longer bring my visitors to this restaurant.
Good food. Good service. Noise level very acceptable—we were upstairs. Really enjoyed our evening.
Lulu was truly outstanding ! A friend of ours who lives part time in Palm Springs recommend this restaurant ! We loved it ! Super great vibe - beautiful fun restaurant - busy but in a really great way ! We had our 7 year old granddaughter with us & she loved it too! Try the 4 course menu - so delicious & super great price ! And the service was impeccable ! Big menu so you should definitely find what you want. Bring a big appetite ! Thank you Lulu !
Definitely need a reservation to avoid waiting a long time, especially for weekend brunches. Always busy and energetic. Would really recommend the $19.99 (plus tax) three-course menu with a wide and varied selection of appetizers, mains and desserts. Great value! Also the $4.99 "unlimited" (if you can count no higher than three) champagne. Server, Haley, was a pleasure to deal with.
We came for lunch during the PS Film Fest and it took the perfect
amount of time with wonderful tasty food and wine. Always love
Lulu remains one of the fun places to eat in the center of Palm Springs, however, I feel the quality has gone down a bit. One infuriating thing to me is that they STILL don't have a choice of whole wheat or multigrain bread that can be substituted for a white bun. Being diabetic, I can't eat white flour. There are 25 million of us! Because of this, I will avoid coming back.
Lulu has so much potential but the last few times has been hit or miss. We had a reservation for days and the restaurant had seats open in every section, but they chose to seat us in the worst section upstairs behind a wall. The waiter was good, not great, not of the most attentive but friendly enough. Some of our appetizers and dishes were stellar, some were mediocre or not good at all. When the main dishes came one of my friends dish did not come for a good 5 to 10 minutes, and when it finally did come it was cold. My salmon was inconsistent, some bites were delicious the sauce was great, and some bites were bone dry.
Very good, busy/popular, fairly loud.
Food was very good with lots of options.
Service was not that attentive, though the food service was efficient.
Great service and food and drinks are excellent. Pricing is very reasonable. Interior design is modern and very unique.
Salads came before dinner drinks.
Missing garbonzos from salad.
Broccoli bunch was cooked and served with rubber bands around plant stems.
All in all Mediocre at BEST.
would never go back.
Recommended by a friend and it certainly lived up to all we had heard
Being a long time customer of this Palm Springs landmark, we find that things are slowly deteriorating in both food quality and service. The last two times we went, service was extremely slow, excessive wait times between courses and a lack of attention by the wait staff. Food has gone from tasty to bland. The Chicken Caesar Salad had little or no flavor. The dressing sucked.
Interior needs a serious upgrade, Very dated and very very noisy. Would I go back, yes, and hopefully I won't be continually disappointed.
Great time at Lulus before taking in Villagefest. As usual, service was excellent, food prepared well and all dishes tasty. Appreciated being able to get a booth as requested. Will return...as we often had...well priced for downtown Palm Springs. Good value $$.
Good food, great value, fun ambiance. Evening was chilly but we brought our dog so we sat on the patio. We were perfectly warm.
What a lovely way to spend my 72nd birthday! Lulu's was fun! Great atmosphere/look and vibe to it! Martin was our congenial waiter and the wait staff was most attentive! The mushroom soup and meat loaf were exceptional and I have never seen such a great, extensive dessert menu! We tried four desserts...two "to go" and everything was delicious....tiramisu, Napoleon, bread pudding and creme brûlée! Thanks to all at Lulu's...what a fun, memorable evening!
The place looked cool. They sat us near a table with too many people who were standing and we had to sit facing them instead of the window. We asked for sparkling water, we got flat. We were offered bread, nothing. We asked for the bread, nothing still.
The menu was a bit overwhelming, as in there were just too many choices. That large menu made the place feel less than unique and more a chain.
The food was tasty, but my grilled chicken that was over the pasta was dry and I didn’t eat much of that part.
We always enjoy going to Lulu fir brunch lunch or dinner. Food great
Calling 3 hours before a reservation to change the time is unacceptable. The restaurant was booked for the night. Your hostess blaming the mess up because we booked on Open Table is blizzard. Then we were clear on 3 occasions the other party was in transit. The hostess told our guests Lu Lu was closed. When they were late I went looking, they were in the lobby trying to contact us. Can you get worse service! I am sharing this experience like I share positive experiences. It is highly recommended that staff get training, great way to ruin your reputation!
The formula appears to be; reasonable food at a good price with friendly service in a fun and energetic atmosphere - fill the restaurant and turn the tables over quickly.
Don't try the lasgna... 2 people had it and it was not very good. Dry pasta with asausage on top!
On the other hand the Bay Shrimp Gazpacho was delish. Service was fast but there was a lot of reaching in front of people and accross the table. Not so great.
I always enjoy going to Lulu’s..... we ate dinner and lunch there last week, the prices for dinner are an exceptional value especially for their options for the three course meals.
I recommend Lulu to all friends that visit Palm Springs.
Lulu's is stylish, comfortable and casual. Service is always good, the menu is quite varied and prices are ver reasonable. Would definitely recommend it to friends and family!
Always reliable and fun! Delicious food and their Gluten Free menu along with special 3-course menu for 19.99 is amazing! The pork chop is our favorite along with the butternut squash vegan dish. We are locals and always find the place bustling with people and parties!
Disappointing that Lulu's told Open Table that I had not shown for my reservation, when in fact I had. I have the receipt to prove it. VERY loud in the restaurant, makes conversation difficult.
Lulu has been one of my go-to restaurants in Palm Springs, but I have to tell you the service and kitchen have really slipped.
The waiter took 15 minutes before he greeted us, and then it was to say he would be with us in a moment - which was another 10 minutes later. He also brought the salad with the appetizer. I've waited tables - this guy was either very new and not trained well enough to handle 7pm on a Wednesday, or just decided he didn't care.
When the waiter took our order, we discovered that one of the prix fixe items was already out. It was 7pm on a Wednesday. What kitchen manager with any experience whatsoever runs out of a prix fixe item by 7pm on a Wednesday?
I have a background in the hospitality industry, and I can tell you that when you see a good restaurant slip like this, it's a pretty good indicator that either the kitchen management has changed, the house management has changed, or both. Either way, it can often be the beginning of a slide downhill - much like what happened to Wangs In The Desert several years ago when their kitchen management was replaced. Service slips were quickly followed by a major drop in food quality to the point that meals were served bland and missing items.
Lulu needs to get their act together and fast or they will find that folks will cease being willing to pay the premium price for location and ambiance.
