Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille
As the name implies, Luke Wholey's Alaskan Grille is a predominately seafood restaurant that has several fish based dishes on the menu. The restaurant has a separate section for children along with a bar menu that offers seasonal cocktails, a wine list and a special Draft list for beer. All of the beverages in the menu go well with the seafood on offer, but each can be ordered by the glass as well.
Luke Wholey's Alaskan Grille also boasts a separate sushi menu which is divided into a full 3 course meal. Traditional favorites include shrimp, eel, salmon, scallops, flying fish roe along with a variety of seafood rolls that range from shrimp and salmon to veggie and crab. The signature rolls on the menu include the Spider Roll which is filled with soft shell crab, fresh vegetables and sauces.
Went for my BFs birthday. We were looking forward to a great meal but I was disappointed overall. Waitor was nice but busy. Had to ask twice for things. Crab cakes were amazing but the lobster/shrimp pizza was nothing special. Very bland & boring. Cocktails were good but expensive. Be prepared for a VERY loud environment. Parking was a nightmare too. I was unaware how busy the strip district gets at 7pm on a Saturday & ended up paying $10 to park two blocks away. Will not be returning or recommending. Too expensive not to be wowed. Off my bucket list so that’s done.
Disappointed in the seafood. Thought this place would be fantastic based on the fish market that I’ve been to of the same family name.
Very loud and dog barking entire time that was sitting under a table! Food was good and will return!
First time visiting this restaurant. Food was excellent. Service was on par with a busy city restaurant. Beverages were cool at best. We kept getting the excuse that the “refrigerator was having issues.” However, that aside, we did enjoy our time here. Bit on the pricey side—which reflects the name. When in Alaska, the food was as expensive as it was here. For four people, we spent a little over 325 with tip.
Great fresh seafood in a sports bar type atmosphere. Sushi and seafood. Great cocktails too. Would definitely go back!
Food was decent not great and came out cold
Service sub par - once our food was delivered no one checked on us and even left us sitting for a while before clearing the table
A shame as based on reviews I was really looking forward to a better meal and experience
First time trying this restaurant and we were not disappointed! We took my husband's grandmother to get Lobster Tail for her 81st birthday. She loved the seafood trio of Lobster Tail, Escolar, and Shrimp. I highly recommend the grilled Halibut, very flavorful. My husband enjoyed fish and chips. Unless you have a big appetite you will be getting a to go box. Desserts are made in house...Delicious! At times it was hard to have a conversation, noise level is fairly high but lively. Highly recommend asking for our server, Drew too. Enjoyed our conversations with him and he was always there when we needed him. Wonderful night!
I can't say enough good things about this place! Food was some of the best I've eaten in a long time! Halibut was cooked to perfection! I observed how well all of the staff worked together......our server was awesome! I've already recommended Luke Wholeys to numerous people!
It was mine and my boyfriend’s first time here and we absolutely loved it. The food was outstandingly delicious and very fresh. Definitely the freshest seafood in Pittsburgh. However, the best part was our waiter Drew. He was very passionate about his job, knowledgeable about the dishes and was overall just a great person and pleasure to have serving us. We will definitely be back!
Freshest seafood on the Strip. The pace of the meal was excellent as was our server Drew. Got our stay-cation in Pittsburgh off to a great start. Bravo!
Great food, great drinks and great service. Very happy with my visit.
It was probably my 5th or 6th time eating at Luke Wholey's it's always great!! I've always had excellent servers.. always so kind and go the extra mile. One person in our group had never been to Luke Wholey's and they just loved it and can't wait to come back!! Every time my brother comes in from Atlanta, we try to make it to Luke Wholey's cuz he really enjoys it also!!
Delicious food, a little noisy, but the moscato was perfect if you like moscato.
Food was excellent and our waitress, Angie, was outstanding! She was most attentive to our needs. Never had better service anywhere! An enjoyable evening with friends.
Angie was amazing and the food was delicious as usual!
The food was fantastic and our waitress, Angie, was very helpful and friendly!
Great food and menu. Angie, our server, was a big help with the menu and did a great job for us.
We came to Luke Wholey’s as part of restaurant week. My boyfriend and I both ordered the lobster bisque soup. We both immediately commented that the small cup of soup had the exact same consistency and viscosity of pudding. We couldn’t get past it. We both took a few bites (it was very bland, almost seemed as if it was mistakenly left unseasoned) and pushed it aside. We weren’t going to say anything, but our kind server asked if we liked it and if we would prefer something else. We both obliged and got the seafood chowder on the menu. The flavor of the soup was very good, although my boyfriend was upset because neither of our cups had any seafood in them, including an empty mussel shell as a garnish (it didn’t fall in the soup, either). We both ordered the lobster sushi roll on the menu. While the roll was beautiful and seemed to have fresh ingredients, it was completely overrun by the taste of bitter, verdant, inedible sunflower sprouts. This could have been a subjective ingredient, but it was truly one of the most bitter and awful things I’ve ever tasted (and should really come with a warning label. But, lesson learned). We finished with dessert, he had key lime pie and I had the strawberry/rhubarb cake. Both desserts were mediocre; good, but nothing to write home about. But after 2-3 bites of the first two courses, most of our sustenance came from dessert, so there’s a plus. The restaurant had a welcoming, fun ambiance and our server was attentive and accommodating. The food was just wretched. We gave up and got Chinese food just minutes after leaving.
Used to be better, not impressed with last two visits
Sushi and drinks are good, fish was bland. Good portion sizes though
We had a great evening here. Quality food in a lively atmosphere. Drew our waiter was terrific on an extra busy restaurant week night. The host was personable and greeted us warmly. We had a fun conversation with Chris, as well.
Had a great dinner for restaurant week. Our table was ready when we arrived. Waitress gave great suggestions on food and drinks! Enjoyed it
This is the second time we have been here, to say it was good would be an understatement; it was amazing! The food, staff, cleanliness of the place all top notch. This is now be our go to place for special occasions.
Our son and I had the shrimp and scallops with a Lobster Buerre blanc sauce. It was devine! Really flavorful and perfectly prepared. Spider rolls for appetizers were also delish. Will return because it was a great dining experience!
The food is always generally good here. I have not been here in several months and was glad to see that they remodeled only in the sense that they got rid of the large bulky uncomfortable round wooden tables in the center of the dining room and replaced them with more reasonable tables/chairs...which by the way I believe lets them seat more people. I had special of day fried oyster app and fish/chips dinner and date had crabcakes. The only thing that I was unhappy about was the fish/chips came with tartar sauce and I asked for cocktail sauce and was charged an extra 75 cents for the small sauce container. This never happened either here or anywhere else for that matter. To me this is nickel and diming and the extra charge was never mentioned, nor the possible option of substituting one for the other.
Service was effectively timely. Food was hot and well seasoned. Can you open a restaurant in Columbus Ohio?
Had a delightful dinner! We had our hearts set on the hamburger topped with a soft shell crab. Luke happily agreed to make it for us even though it wasn’t on the dinner menu. Cooked to perfection along with the best Caesar salad in the city! Highly recommend ❤️
Halibut was great. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. Server was delightful
My New favorite restaurant with good food, fresh seafood and great key lime pie.
The menus has a good selection, the daily specials were well planned, and the staff was prompt and friendly. We will definitely be returning.
Drew was our waiter and he was wonderful! Place was busy and noisy but well worth it. The food was amazing!
restaurant was extremely loud. server was nice but slow...Ordered Lobster mac-n cheese - had to look long and hard to find ANY lobster !!!!!! and for the price was not close to being worth it.....
My dad told them it was my birthday (party of 6) and not one mention from any of the staff or management :(
We are from north of Toronto, Ontario and we came to Luke Wholey's a year ago while on a short trip to Pittsburgh for our 20th anniversary. It was so good, we came back this past weekend. We were in Pittsburgh for our son's basketball tournament so we brought him as well. Such a friendly, unique environment. The food is amazing as is the service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I wish we could come more often! The scallop/shrimp combo entree was perfect but honestly all our dinners were delicious. Also, whoever creates the desserts really knows what they are doing! Save some room for that for sure.
The server was nice, but he kept forgetting things (extra wet naps, that he’d already brought our checks and brought a second copy, etc.) our drinks took forever. We were done with our appetizers by the time we got them. Crab legs were plentiful but it seemed like they spent too much time in the steamer or were re-steamed for service. Meat was too soggy and not as sweet and firm as it normally is.
Bloody Mary was on-point though.
Very fresh, high quality fish and shell fish nicely prepared. Somewhat narrow range of entrée choices, all very good but after enjoying several meals there wishing for a special or two to broaden the choices. I haven't sampled the sushi menu personally but one in our group enjoyed a entrée roll. The sushi menu is pretty broad so in fairness that potentially expands the menu options significantly. Bar service was a bit slow but it was a busy Saturday night so not unexpected. Table service was good and very friendly. Kitchen was spot on with all the dishes and pretty quick.
Great food. Especially enjoyed the salmon and fish and chips. Be sure to have the key lime pie. One of the best I have had. Will be back whenever I visit Pittsburgh
Parents 40th Anniversary. Drew our server is amazing!!
We were looking for a seafood restaurant in the strip district. I heard about this place before and it was my first time trying it. We were able to book our reservation online and we were seated quickly upon arrival. Our waiter was responsive and gave us enough time to make our choices at our own pace. We ordered the crab cakes and the ahi tuna to start. Both excellent, especially the crab cakes were mainly crab with rich flavor. We went for the classic and ordered the Alaskan king crab dish. We were not disappointed. You have to watch out that the sharp crab shell edges as it is not pre-cracked so it takes some work, I tend to like it that way coming from the east coast. Definitely recommend this restaurant, you can tell the seafood is fresh.
Best seafood around. We drive from Irwin and are never disappointed!
Delicious food and drink, friendly and fun environment in the bar area where we enjoy sitting for dinner. Service always good. Waiters and staff most attentive. Always guaranteed to be a good time!
