Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille
As the name implies, Luke Wholey's Alaskan Grille is a predominately seafood restaurant that has several fish based dishes on the menu. The restaurant has a separate section for children along with a bar menu that offers seasonal cocktails, a wine list and a special Draft list for beer. All of the beverages in the menu go well with the seafood on offer, but each can be ordered by the glass as well.
Luke Wholey's Alaskan Grille also boasts a separate sushi menu which is divided into a full 3 course meal. Traditional favorites include shrimp, eel, salmon, scallops, flying fish roe along with a variety of seafood rolls that range from shrimp and salmon to veggie and crab. The signature rolls on the menu include the Spider Roll which is filled with soft shell crab, fresh vegetables and sauces.
I expected a nicer restaurant atmosphere based on the price and menu. The fish did not impress me any more than any chain could do. Especially for the price.
It's probably my sixth time dining at Luke Wholey's and as always it was excellent!! I had guests from out of town that had never been there... they loved the oysters and their Swordfish was perfect !!We all had a great time and even got to meet Luke!! He spent a couple minutes at our table, which I thought was so sweet cuz it was very busy ..day after Thanksgiving.
Mashed potatoes were cold. The oysters were very expensive. Filet was good but not trimmed.
Great food spot for business and social.
Great food and service.
Never a complaint
I came here to celebrate my birthday with family. The staff was friendly, service was prompt, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was quiet as it was in the evening during the week and the seating was comfortable. We had an enjoyable time and I plan on going back again.
amazing food. nice surroundings. I had the seafood trio. lobster fish and shrimp were incredible. so was the soft shell crab dip special
We had a great dining experience at Luke Wholey’s Wild Alaskan Grille! We made reservations in advance, noting that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary that weekend, and asked for window seating. A table near the retractable glass door window was waiting for us! This place has a very laid back vibe! The staff was wonderful and Angie, did a superb job serving us! The owner, Luke, came by to greet us and to apologize as the wait between salad and entree was longer than he likes; so he offered us one of the soups, on the house. We were so tempted to say yes just to try it - maybe next time - but we were honestly not waiting that long. Our entrees arrived and I must say, it was great to have the grilled options as opposed to the deep fried choices that Wholey’s is famously known for! The halibut and the cod tasted amazing. Because it was our anniversary we shared a chocolate flourless dessert; (on the house) and it did not disappoint! Luke came by again to see how everything was and kindly talked with us a little about the restaurant and the decor- super nice, down to earth, and friendly. We look forward to visiting again ~ Thank you!
Our food was tasty, and presentation was nice, but unfortunately our server didn’t get our dinners out to us in a timely manner, and they were all lukewarm to cold.
This was my most disappointing meal i have had at your restaurant. Usually a big fan, but tonight was off?!
First cheer competition of the season.
The fish sandwich was delicious. Well deserving of the Best Fish sandwich in Pittsburgh award. The Bloody Mary with the works was a meal in itself with the maple bacon, shrimp and the soft shell crab. The Steel City Lobster roll was really different and tasty. Nothing else like it. The server was very helpful with the selections. Want to go back for dinner.
I would definitely recommend the lobster roll
We selected Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille to celebrate our daughters birthday, and we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous, wait staff was attentive and awesome!! Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!!
Jayme is the best bartender/manager in a 100 mile radius. And she’s very easy on the eyes
Anyone visiting “The Strip” in Pittsburgh will want to take the time to make reservations for a spectacular dining experience. We invited guests from State College that had a first-time experience on The Strip yesterday evening. Although there are many good places in the area, we chose Luke Wholey’s Wild Alaskan Grill for its location and notably excellent seafood.
The Chef, Luke, is as local as you get that prepares any dish that is exceptionally well prepared and in good taste. The cuisine specializes in an array of seafood dishes that is delectable, surprising to the palate, and enjoyable from start to finish. The service staff is equally exceptional, pleasant, accommodating, gracious, courteous and friendly. Our favorite server’s name is Tammy.
All the best to Chef Luke, Tammy and the staff.
Been there 3 times in 6 weeks. Love it!
Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The owner Luke took the time to chat with us while running food to customers himself! Speaking of food runners, Alene was super sweet, stopping to chat with us, making recommendations on what to order (she was right the stuffed salmon was BOMB!) and also brought us a small serving of lobster bisque fries after my husband told her I wouldn’t let him order them haha. Muscles marinara were outstanding ... so good I wanted to take home the leftover marinara (I didn’t!). We can’t wait to go back to try the lobster Mac n cheese and swordfish and king crab legs!
Our first time there and we will definitely be going back. Have already recommended it to family and friends.
Everything fresh and delicious. Will be back!
Another fabulous meal with fresh seafood and excellent preparations. Only comment is the chairs. At our table upstairs the chairs were so low to the table you felt like an undersized kid trying to reach items on the table. Need to fix this aspect. Even on the hi tops, the chairs are not comfortable.
Manager cut servers and the service was super slow.
Food was good overall. Calimari was disappointing for a wholey restaurant.
Service was excellent. Great food selection. Very fresh seafood. Definitely get the oysters. Great beer and wine selection.
We had an incredible experience at Luke Wholey's. It was my girlfriends birthday and the whole team knew about it from the moment we walked in. Shout out to Monica for making us feel so special even though everyone was very warm and welcoming. The people weren’t the only thing that made it great the food was on another level as well. To start we had the mussels and some sushi which were solid. Considering we were there celebrating, we ordered the Alaskan king crab and boy did we order right. Definitely a lot of food and money but it was well worth it! I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Pittsburg.
Food as always was amazing !
Food amazing we drovec2 hrs to eat here...they made lobster nachos for me tho not on menu my bloody mary was creative and fun..waitress sooooo..sweet and friendly Angie was a doll...♡
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! The service stunk, the decibel level was so bad you could barely hear each other and the food was nothing to write home about! I had the surf and turf! $45 worth. What a mistake. The 7 oz. filet was ridiculously tough and flavorless, the shrimp were horrifically over cooked, and the jumbo sea scallop was maybe the size of a quarter. What a colossal waste of money and time! I usually will give a restaurant a second chance. Not this one! It was abysmal! In the words of the late great Rodney Dangerfield, I think the steak still had the marks from the jockey hitting it! What a disappointment!
Food and service has always been outstanding Anytime we have been there .
The food was really good except the lobster bisque fries. The lobster bisque tastes and looks like gravy rather than lobster bisque. The service was not the greatest. The server was not very attentive and seemed a bit annoyed.
Great food with great service! Loved my meal there.
Very good lobster roll. Time to clean the menus - ick!
Excellent food and excellent service. My boyfriend and I dined here for his birthday. I had an amazing margarita and he had an old fashioned. We started with the lobster bisque soup which had large chunks of delicious lobster. For our entrees I had the lobster mac n cheese which was worth the money and he had the crab stuffed salmon which was also incredible. For dessert we split a key lime pie for his birthday. The overall bill was fair for so much food and amazing service. We will definitely be back for more!
Great dinner! Wonderful server, excellent food and portions. I had the Lobster Thermidore and there was a ton of claw meat! Well worth the price.
If one is looking for a genuine and authentic neighborhood experience, where patrons enjoy the company of others and revile in a beautiful early autumn evening in the heart of a long-standing, hard working Pittsburgh community, this is it. Beer and laughter, song and friendliness, Straightforward. Shared tables. Nothing contrived.
Our meals were amazing. Cooked to perfection, great service, strong drinks and a mixture of music all provide for a great dining experience. Will be returning.
Surprised it took us so long to try this place because we are fish lovers. The food was delicious and plentiful and service was very personable. It is a casual atmosphere and all the food came out at once (salad a couple of minutes after main courses) so it certainly is not fine dining -- but the food is! Fresh, well prepared --- I would definitely come back.
Went for my BFs birthday. We were looking forward to a great meal but I was disappointed overall. Waitor was nice but busy. Had to ask twice for things. Crab cakes were amazing but the lobster/shrimp pizza was nothing special. Very bland & boring. Cocktails were good but expensive. Be prepared for a VERY loud environment. Parking was a nightmare too. I was unaware how busy the strip district gets at 7pm on a Saturday & ended up paying $10 to park two blocks away. Will not be returning or recommending. Too expensive not to be wowed. Off my bucket list so that’s done.
Disappointed in the seafood. Thought this place would be fantastic based on the fish market that I’ve been to of the same family name.
