We were frustrated that there was only a brunch menu so nothing for a few pickier eaters after we had checked the menu online to make sure they were happy. Our waitress was very sweet but service was excruciatingly slow. Food was ok. Chicken a bit overdone but gumbo excellent.
The food in this new addition to the Ludlow’s Brand is wonderful. Great food with a gulf coast flair it has become part of our favorite restaurant list in MUSIC CITY. They also have an amazing brunch. The staff is warm and friendly and they even have a gumbo bar right out of New Orleans. When the weather warms up and the windows open I’m sure they will be standing room only. Love love this new place on 12th.
Went to brunch at this location as we have been a big fan of the other Ludlow & Prime location. The food was a big disappointment. We started with the yogurt & granola, served in a large martini glass. It was a big serving of tasty yogurt but only had about 5 small pieces of granola on the top. The broadway BLT came out with only 2 small pieces of bacon and the bacon was absolutely burned to a crumble. The spicy chicken sandwich was also disappointing, it was all texas toast with a little piece of chicken that had been severely overcooked. Sent the BLT back altogether and then discovered the OWNER had personally delivered the embarrassment of a sandwich. For the record, the owner didn’t find it necessary to come back to the table once we sent the BLT back but our server handled it beautifully. We stuck with the spicy chicken sandwich which had very good flavor despite it’s lack luster presentation.
We had to wait to order drinks and then wait even longer to order so we ordered appetizers and dinner at the same time. The server then informed us that they were out of gumbo and oysters which was astounding since their menu says they are a seafood restaurant and had a menu designed around gumbo. We tried to order other menu items and she returned and told us that they were out of carrots and brussel sprouts. I asked if management would comp our appetizers since they were out of so many items and the manager said no so we cancelled our order, paid for our drinks, and left. We should have been told when we arrived that they were out of so many items. We saw many people around us ordering hamburgers because the seafood was limited. Very disappointing!!
Fun place with great food. They know how to fry oysters and make gumbo. Having grown up on the coast and lived in New Orleans, its the real thing.
Random restaurant pick to try something new and we were pleasantly surprised. Everyone in the group enjoyed the food, the drinks, the staff and we were in agreement that we would come here again. We enjoyed brussel sprouts, hush pups, deviled eggs, lobster truffle Mac n cheese, gumbo, chips n queso and all the bites were flavorful. We agreed we could comeback and easily graze off the appetizers menu but there’s so much else on the menu!! Consensus of the group: we likey 👍🏼👍🏼
Cute and cozy spot for a girls night out, very accommodating to a larger group and the prices were perfect. Was a little disappointed in some of serving portions being smaller than expected but the food was great. Would definitely go back.
It was a decent place, martinis were excellent. Server rushed us out of there by dropping the bill even though we were still planning on drinking a few more rounds. Took awhile to get drink orders in and back to the table. I would go back but not anytime soon.
Fun, casual atmosphere in 12 South. I had a bowl of seafood gumbo and oysters on the half shell, very fresh and flavorful. My wife had the cheeseburger which she raved about. Good draft beer selection with local options. Service was friendly and prompt. Will be back!
Great Brunch spot! Food was super fresh & delicious, came quickly to the table. We loved the 2-4-1 mimosas! We’ll be back soon, it was a great place to take family that was visiting from out of town.
Outstanding great meal! The wedge salad was incredible & everything
Great food! Great value too... space was cute, the buttermilk fried chicken and truffle mac were awesome. Came here for a birthday party, they have big long tables that are good for groups.
These guys work hard that is for sure. I have been coming here weekly for about a month now. Food is consistent every time
Had a wonderful meal here, the food was fresh, delicious and very fairly priced. Had some gumbo, which was perfect, added a lobster tail that was steamed and served with some drawn butter. Wife had the Buttermilk Fried chicken and queso, brussels sprouts - all worth going back for. Fun atmosphere, great food.
Our reservation was at 6pm on a Saturday night and they were out of Gumbo. That’s the whole reason we chose to eat here was for the gumbo. After all it is a gumbo bar. The waitress was the most forgetful waitress I have ever had. Drinks and other items had to be asked for multiple times. I’m hoping it was a fluke and the service gets better and they can keep gumbo prepared.
It was a much more casual atmosphere than I expected, although not a complaint, just an observation. The food was delicious although small portions. 2 scallops is a tease even for an appetizer but this was an entree! The Brussel sprouts were divine - I’d go back just for that! My husband enjoyed his gumbo and Mac n cheese. A weird martini that was not what I expected & wouldn’t order again. All in all, we enjoyed our first meal there and learned some do’s and don’t’s for next time.
We always have a great time here. We sampled new items tonight and they were fabulous. My new favorite
We chose to have dinner at the Gumbo Bar as we are big fans of Ludlow and Prime, their more formal restaurant in Brentwood. It was a very rainy night and the crowd was somewhat small. Located in 12South, I am sure they will do a great business especially in the summer.
On the recommendation of the waitress, we decided to share a gumbo bowl, which is very large. It was full of fish and rice and was excellent. My wife ordered fried oysters which were very good. I ordered fried catfish which was really outstanding. The wine list is almost identical to that at the main restaurant. The meal was quite filling, so we passed on dessert.
This is a casual, friendly restaurant, borrowing from the excellent quality of the main site.
Great happy hour and oysters !
High quality food and very reasonably priced. The craft sangria was amazing and Cara was a sweetheart
Great service...great food!
Great find in our neighborhood! I had the beat catfish in a bowl of gumbo ever. Relaxed environment and they treated our kids like royalty. We will make this a new regular
The gumbo was disappointing as was most every thing else. This was our first visit & went on NY Eve, and they were short staffed. Our server was extremely slow & curt. He seemed to forget about us more than once. While we were waiting for our bill, he went to the restroom to change clothes for his plans after work. If he had been more attentive to our table, we would have been finished 30 min earlier.
We were pleased with the overall experience however they were very understaffed the evening we had dinner. Our waiter did the best he could considering the circumstances. The gumbo had a great flavor but was missing the additional items stated on the menu, the scallops were cooked great but more of an appetizer than an entree, the fried catfish was spot on but the fried chicken tenders were horrible, more breading than chicken and also burned. The lobster mac and cheese was also lacking lobster. Definitely room to grow and learn but we will give them another try in a month or so! Happy New Year!
The gumbo was delicious! We loved the restaurant and atmosphere. The owner came over and answered all of our questions and was incredibly nice. We will definitely be back!
The food was awful! Fried chicken was burnt to an actual crisp + all the steaks were brought out well done even though we ordered medium rare. The waiter did his best, but service was very slow.
Finally something different and delicious in 12 South! Loved the gumbo, oysters & affordable wine list for my wife and friends, they had enough bourbon to keep me happy !
What a great time! Our food and cocktails were both fantastic! The scallops were delicious, loved the Truffle Macaroni & Cheese. Lots of choices on the menu so we can't wait to go back and try again!
Amazing little southern restaurant on 12 south. Any of the Gumbo options are good choices but the rest of the menu is great too. Whole interior has been redone and looks great now.
Love this place in the area. We were excited to try and could not have been more shocked on how good everything was. The crawfish hushpuppies, gumbo bowl with crab cakes & fried oyster s were all so flavorful. A must try in 12 South !
We had a great waitress and she understood all of the dishes. They were out of a few things but given the broad extent of the menu this is not surprising. The food was good but not great. Again they may be offering too much. They took over the space occupied by a previous restaurant and did not do much to change or improve that atmosphere. The two are very different so the atmosphere seemed out of place with the dining etc... Overall it was good. I may go back in a pinch.
Great food great service! Love the Brussel sprout!!
Fabulous food. Great service. This is on my list for one of the best restaurants in town.
I had a reservation for 8 on Saturday at noon for brunch. The restaurant was not busy (lots of open tables) but the service was terrible. We waited 45 minutes to get a drink and decided to leave and go to Urban Grub as it would have taken hours to get our food. The waiter was not apologetic at all. Best decision we made was to leave. I do not recommend this place.
Given how much we loved The Flipside & the great reviews that came out of Ludlow’s Steakhouse in Brentwood, we took a gamble to celebrate my graduation
It was next to empty. Our party of 11 required staff to pull menus from another table with people who hadn’t ordered. Red flag 1
We were seated, told the waitress it was our first time but had been regulars of Flipside. Asked her recommendations, she said bloody mary that carried over from Flipside, or drinks. No mention of food. Red flag 2
Order appetizers. Brussel sprouts & wings – out of wings. Waitress’ response – “it’s okay they weren’t good anyway.” Red flag 3. Sub for hushpuppies
Drinks run dry. Waitress is no where to be found. Mind you the size of this place
45 min. *Bartender* finally brings appetizers – 2 plates of sprouts & 2 plates of puppies.
Table of two next to us leaves having only been served drinks & tired of waiting
We take our water pitchers up to the bar and ask for more. Waitress - “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry.”
90 min. Mac n cheese on the house
Our food arrives. Some of it anyway
Classic Ludlow Cheeseburger - turned out surprisingly well
“Hot smoked salmon” arrived next to raw. Waitress claimed “that’s how we serve it” - so not hot
Steak Fritz - like a shriveled up McDonalds patty on top of fries. Sad coming from a steakhouse
Seafood Gumbo - no mention of differences between sizes. CUP: no seafood - literally broth & a hushpuppy. BOWL: more broth, a hushpuppy and fried oyster that was more bread than oyster
Lobster mac n cheese - never saw it. Maybe they brought us earlier “on the house”?
Decided to leave offering to pay for appetizers we ate. Manager said we had to pay for all because “they were trying to run a business”
He knew the quality of the food “because *he* made it”
I’ve never had such a poor experience before. They cancelled my OpenTable reservation so I couldn’t review them. OpenTable opened it so I could
Friday night and got a last minute reservation for 4, which for 12 south, I thought was odd, but since it was a new restaurant.... Got there and lots of open tables and I didn't see a lot of workers - again, just thought new restaurant issues. We were seated, 5 minutes and got the drink order (not bad, not good, but not terrible). Drinks came fairly quickly, but 45 minutes later we hadn't been visited again except once when the waitress came by and said, they almost have your oysters shucked. 45 minutes to get an app is past my limit, even at new places. I think they literally had 3 people working that night and clearly no manager or anyone who cared about providing a good experience. Hopefully they right the ship soon or I don't expect it to be open 3 months.
Ludlow's menu is spot-on, from delicious fresh raw oysters, rich gumbo, absolutely perfect fried catfish, and really crabby crab cakes. We had a part of 6 and our service was great. I'm so excited to have it in the neighborhood. Apparently, they have $1 oysters for happy hour....I am definitely looking forward to many returns. Try it out, people!!
We made reservations for four...and upon arrival we were informed that they “decided to close early” and that they were no longer seating anyone. Very disappointing...since we made a reservation...someone could have called us to let us know the restaurant was closing early. We drove from suburbs (nearly 35 miles) just to eat at this restaurant.
Recently opened and light crowd but that won’t continue. The food is great. For starters, the fried oysters were just right. We then had gumbo which was awesome. Have not had any better, smokey with shrimp, crab and a fried oyster. Looks like they have a brunch on Sat. and Sunday. We will be back.
