Visiting from Seattle and are thrilled about this find. The food was excellent, the service friendly, and made us want to come back to Houston.
The restaurant was not even 1/4 full when the waitress tried to seat us in between two other couples. Not desirable for conversation. So, she moved us to the back of the restaurant in the sunlight. I guess she won that little skirmish.
Lucille's is a classic, feel good comfort food restaurant with a chef's touch. From fried green tomatoes - superb - to a delicious BLTOyster sandwich, lunch is scrumptious. Dinner menu takes it up a notch - Smothered Rabbit, Braised Oxtails, Waygu Steak. Enjoy sides to share - famous chili biscuits, mussels, truffled brussel sprouts. Everything, including handcrafted cocktails, are delish. And with spring here, there is a fabulous back yard patio.
Great food however they do not have unlimited mimosas even if you ask which was listed online. The music was awesome and the fried green tomatoes are a must.
Pre-rodeo brunch with friends.
My friends and I were at Lucille's to enjoy brunch on Sunday and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food was delicious, and Robin, our server, was fantastic. Additionally, and the live music on Sunday was greatly entertaining!
Went for brunch, sat outside. Very cute, good food, but a little pricey for what it is. Service was a little slow.
Had brunch with family visiting from Louisiana and they enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
T he service was excellent. The fried chicken and braised oxtails were terrific. The collard greens were very good but not hot enough. The fried green tomatoes were awesome
First visit and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. Will definitely return!
Our food was excellent. We ordered the chili cheese biscuits, fried oysters and fried green tomatoes and all were delicious. We also had the lamb neck pasta, and that was seriously some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. Really yummy. And the Brussels sprouts with crispy onions and egg were also just divine. Our server seemed disinterested for the most part, and didn’t add to the experience. We will 100% be back, and hope to have a slightly more experienced and interested server to enhance the experience.
At 7 pm the restaurant was 1/2 full and there were only 2 waitresses. The attention to us was very slow (for drinks, ordering food and asking for the bill). Our waitress seemed new or inexperienced. It was a special occasion for friends, but the lack of service was embarrassing. The food was good and deserves repeating, but I am wary due to subpar service.
Robin was great! Our outdoor seating was quaint and beautiful. We are already planning a dinner for our next trip!
Service and food were great. Only disappointed in no dessert selection.
Food needs to be seasoned! Very bland to be considered Southern Cuisine.
Lucille’s may have the best brunch in Houston!!!
Lucille’s has yet to disappoint! Every time I visit the service is superb, the food is amazing and the drinks are off the charts! If I had anything to complain about it would be the lack of options for vegetarians. I was still able to have a meal they didn’t include meat and enjoyed it thoroughly!
Since it is spring time in Houston and good weather we opted to eat outside. Waitress seemed attentive and friendly and a but distracted by regular customers (or perhaps favorites) that seemed to get most of the service.
She kept checking back, but seemed to forget repeatedly what we had just requested. As such, it wasn't until her third or fourth time to our table that we received one of our missing glasses of water. My wife had earlier pointed out that she had gone over to chat with some other guests and that I shouldn't be surprised if I didn't get my water. She was right.
Our appetizer went to another table for some reason so by the time we had our meal (which granted was really fast) we didn't get the appetizer yet. Again, there was a sense that regulars or friends were getting a bit preferential treatment such as an appetizer intended for other customers.
Food was both beautifully arranged and made perfectly. The food is definitely the reason to go here.
One final note, as we were getting close to leaving, the rest of a party of four showed up and proceeded to smoke cigarettes. We were unaware that the outside seating was for smokers so if that had happened half an hour earlier that would have been a deal breaker. This fact SHOULD be pointed out to customers when asking them if they wish to sit outside. If you don't want to risk the same, get a table inside instead.
Over all it was a pleasant experience, great food and service was fast and friendly, if a bit disorganized.
Food was great as always. First time for brunch. We both had the crab cake eggs Benedict and shared a fried green tomatoes. It was a busy brunch, but our server disappeared after bringing our drinks. We flagged down another server and things picked up except we asked for the tomatoes to come out first - they didn’t come out at all! We asked for them again after our meals were delivered. The manager came over and apologized and comped the tomatoes off the bill. Great service recovery. The tomatoes were worth the wait! We had a good time and were not rushed or given any side eye for enjoying our meal and conversation. Love Lucille’s!
Excellent as always! Hats off to Gail, the Server who I had the pleasure of being waited on twice! She embodies the quintessential Wait person persona; delightful!
One of my favorite brunch spots ! Love the food and atmosphere!
The food looked great but lack substance, no flavor. But, in the words of Chef Marcus Samuelsson looks without taste is just a cardboard picture. Albeit, The Grand Mimosa was tasty. I don't know what happened did the recipes change, or the volume moved up before the flavor profile could stay intact. Just bummed because I was a fan.
Great food and music! Wonderful atmosphere!
Happened upon this wonderful restaurant accidentally but it sure was a treat! Great Southern food . Awesome service, nice ambience. Highly recommend!!
Came here with my boyfriend who is vegan because they had a few more good looking options than most places, and because it was where we had our first date (a great brunch on the patio out back). I wanted to try the mac and cheese, and Lordy it did not disappoint! I have high standards for mac and cheese - the skillet-made gooey kind that has the creamy dreamy middle and almost crispy top. This is the absolute best I've ever had, seriously. Try it. Great drinks too and my boyfriend really enjoyed his meal. Love the service and the vibe every time.
I'm a "regular" here even though I live in another state. I try to come here for my first meal when I arrive each time in Houston! Very welcoming, great service (a nod to the Assistant Server who has been there a long time; she has the best welcoming warmth when she brings water) and wonderful food. Can't offer any complaints! Well, they could be open on Monday's, but alas.
The restaurant was perfect for our little family farewell dinner for 5. Lots of good choices even for our vegetarian. The oyster appetizers were delicious, cocktails and wine selection were interesting and unusual. Nice decor, upscale but still with a neighborhood vibe. Loved it and will definitely go back.
Delicious Sunday brunch! They have live music which was very loud but they were able to get us a table outside so we could enjoy a quiet meal. The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing!
Tasty, down home Southern style cuisine. We seem to attend when there's always a party (birthday, wedding) so it can be a busy, boisterous environment as the staff hustles to meet the needs of a large group.
The "Yardbird" item is exquisitely prepared fried chicken. Collard greens come with it, so if this is not to your taste, ask for a substitute. The pulled lamb with pasta sat in a well flavored sauce with feta cheese. Serving could have been a bit larger.
Always love fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits! Loved my cocktail too!
This place was pretty dang good. A quaint restaurant in the heart of the museum district (parking can get sparse). I went there with a group of 8 (that is their max group size) for my birthday. They put us in the back in front of the kitchen and it was perfect but we found the back to be very loud (acoustics?) or perhaps we just got lucky and had very loud small groups near us. Some of my highlights were the coffee (from a local roastery, Fontana), the Woke Punch (adult beverage), the french toast, collard greens, and roasted potatoes. I had the country fried steak and it was good but I didn't care for the type of meat they used but the batter was perfect and the gravy sauce was a great consistency, buttery, and not too salty. From what I saw with my group, everyone seemed to enjoy their meals of burgers, eggs benedict, and chicken wings. Definitely, make a reservation and go hungry.
I specifically requested a quiet table and we were seated at the first table as you enter the restaurant. Then proceeded to seat a VERY loud table next to us. I am not at all opposed to folks having a great time at brunch. I would normally be doing the same but I requested a quiet table and did not want to ask the hostess in front of the client. The servers repeatedly brought food to our table that was intended for other tables. And one of our guests entrees arrived about 10 minutes after everyone else's. They brought biscuits as a gesture but the the balance of the table had to eat cold food as it would be rude to eat before the client go their food. I also called the manager to discuss this and while he did call back when I called him back he did not return the call. My LAST time at Lucille's sadly. I used to love this place.
Had Valentine's Day reservations at Lucille's and they didn't disappoint. Great food and I'm happy that the vegan option was available (delicious). The atomosphere was amazing with the live music and champagne. I highly recommend Lucille's and will be back.
Lunch was good not great. Service flagged at the end when we had to find the server to give us the bill. Nice to be able to park across the street.
The ambiance was nice, the server was polite, and the live band was extremely pleasant. However, the fried chicken was the worse! The batter on the chicken came apart like large Lego pieces and the texture of the chicken was very gummy, as if it were boiled instead of fried.
Sunday brunch. Very lively place. I had a reservation and we had to wait about 15 minutes. That was the only downside. Great brunch!
Met friends here for Sunday brunch recently. They had an awesome live jazz band, delicious food, and friendly service. I’ll be back.
I enjoyed the food and service of the restaurant. However, I was seated next to a group that was loud and complained the whole time. I left ahead of schedule.
As always, Lucille's does not disappoint with its creative bar & dinner menu. On a busy Friday night, however, all the servers and bar staff seemed to be on the B team - inexperienced and fumbling! All were friendly and polite, but weren't quite "with it." Took too long at both the bar and our table for our orders to arrive, and took seemingly forever to get our tab. Management needs to step it up in the service department to be on par with the food & drink.
