Come see our special wood fired oven imported from Naples Italy!
We were placed at a small table right near the reception desk affording us a view of the hostesses back side. We ask for a more appealing table and were then seated at the bar on bar stools. We decided to leave at that point as the hostess would not seat us at another table in the restaurant even though it was only 25% full. Very unwelcoming place. We went to Zino and had a lovely meal with very pleasant service and ambiance.
Unfortunately, our party of 4 all agreed that we would be unlikely to return to Lucia's for pizza. We had 2 types of pizza -- Margherita and the nightly special, which was a white pizza. The Margherita was wet and soupy and the crust was undercooked underneath. Pieces had to be rolled or folded over to manage it and still not very flavorful. The special had little taste. We didn't even think the dough had much interest either. The roasted veggies and salad were both very good. The restaurant was noisy and the wait staff seemed somewhat inexperienced. I was hoping for better given that Lucia's is the latest addition to downtown Berkeley.
We loved the brussel sprouts dish and napolitana pizza.
Excellent service, really good pasta and pizza, fun people watching.
We went to Lucia's before attending the Berkeley Rep. The meals were genuine as we might have been in a restaurant in Italy. Ambience was friendly and vibrant. The menu offers a nice variety including attractive non-alcohol beverages. The owner is from Northern Italy and her passion for good food and attentive service is obvious.
I have already recommended Lucia's to 3 friends. It feels just right for a casual, tasty meal alone or with frineds
Cozy, light, casual, hip. Fabuloso server, Elizabetta (sp?). Veg Fritti delicious with lightly minted aoli. Spaghetti a la vongole, delicate flavorful clams... spaghetti a tad too al dente for my taste but good, sauce could use a little clam broth reduced in with the the olive oil and a tiny bit more parsley, but still thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be back.
We came here regularly right after the restaurant opened, and enjoyed ourselves. We hadn't been for a while and were quite disappointed. Our appetizers were good, but our pizza was cold and tasteless - the cheese was an unmelted lump, the sausage were in chunks, and there was very little broccoli rabe. One person at our table ordered something else, and her dish was not delivered until we had eaten our appetizers and almost finished the pizza.
I really liked this restaurant and am looking forward to going back. The restaurant is family owned and run and the family is lovely. We shared a vegan pizza and it was quite yummy. Service was very quick and everyone was very pleasant. Next time I think I'll order a vegan pizza with custom toppings. My friend loved her meatballs. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. We had delicious Basil Gimlets, pizzas, and appetizers. The owners were attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!
Love this place. The pizza is phenomenal. And the service is lovely. Great salads too!
Oh and the soft serve gelato is to die for!
Interesting pizzas ever! Feels authentic even though I've never been to Italy myself :)
We always enjoy are meal and the service at the restaurant. We had limited time as we had theater tickets. The staff were very accommodating to serve us quickly to enjoy our meal before the play.
Very good food and service; limited wine choices, but okay for a college town pizza joint.
Nice meal... kinda felt like the host (manager/owner) was rushing us a little.
Good pizza - seemed authentic Italian. However, the service and management was very disappointing. Despite having a reservation through open table our table was not ready when we arrived - the prior group was still at the table. They were not informed to leave asap because the next seating needed the table - instead they were served dessert and remained chatting at the table drinking water for 30 minutes while we were made to wait outside and then crunch at the bar. I understand you have limited control over hurrying existing guests but the situation seemed incredibly poorly handled and mismanaged from the start. When finally seated over 30 mins late it took another 30 minutes for them to take our food order.
Pizza was fantastic and the atmosphere is very enjoyable.
We loved the svc , wine, and gf pizza, which is the best in town. :)
Very nice pizza but definitely more of a pizza place than a full bore Italian. Portions are generous - single pizza good for a hungry person but could easily be shared by those with smaller appetites. Nice selection of affordable wines in a range of sizes (e.g. carafes of 2/3 bottle size) which was appreciated. We had a pizza each and so too full to try desert - next time maybe!
Very convenient to Berkeley theaters with excellent pizzas, salads, and brunch dishes.
Great team who work here; explain the menu, bring drinks out quickly, happy to recommend items. Food was delicious and the restaurant wasn’t too crowded although quite loud.
Recommend for drinks, or dinner.
I enjoyed my first visit to Lucia's very much. The service was very nice, and the food was delicious. Much better than a walk-by, first glance might suggest! The menu emphasizes Italian style pizza with many choices.
The pizza was just ok..,watery crust/pizza
Some of the best pizza I have ever had! The Dough was extraordinary. The service was outstanding and the desserts were delicious! I will definitely be coming back on my next trip to the Berkeley area.
First of many future visits. Had Margarita pizza with add farm sausage, buffalo milk mozzarella, mushrooms and garlic. Excellent Neapolitan style pizza. I asked for burnt, blistered, thin & crispy crust. It came how I had requested except for “crispy.” Still excellent. Also had fab pan-roasted shishito peppers. Next time, I hope they will not have run out of their cannoli.
We love Lucia's! Fantastic pizzas, including a gluten free version so good you won't know it's gf. Friendly staff, fun and casual atmosphere wit a huge pizza oven and a bar where you can watch the pizzas being made, and the food is truly authentically Italian. Our favorite place for dinner in downtown Berkeley!
This lovely Venetian couple and their amazing crew create the best pizza in the east bay. 30hr dough. Incredible- and such hospitality
The quality, value and great service keep us coming back for more.
Best pizza ever/sauce tasted like actual tomatoes/crust was wood fired. I normally do not eat pizza because of sweet tomato sauce heavily applied on pre=made crust.
would eat at the restaurant again and again.
Great pizza, probably this is one of the 3 pizzerias in the Bay Area that has authentic Neapolitan pizza, and i've tried more than 15 that claim to be authentic. The dough is simply perfect. Great job guys.
Enjoyed greatly, had sufficient time to make our play due to attentive service.
Everything about the restaurant screams authentic, delicious, quality crafted Italian cuisine. We started with a delicious burrata, followed by papardelle with a bolognese sauce, vegan pizza AMAZING!!, and the sopressato pizza. The pizzas are made with perfection! Crispy delicious crust and delicious with every bite. Last but not least, a cannoli and chocolate mousse! Fantastic! Can’t wait to go back!!
This is probably my favorite restaurant in Berkeley. I just came back from a trip to Italy and can say that the pizzas, appetizers, and drinks are just as good here, which makes sense since the owners and chefs are from Italy. Service and atmosphere are great as well.
Nice, casual place with yummy thin crust pizza. Enjoyed a birthday party for 11 people.
The pizza was warm not hot. The waitperson acted like it was annoyed with us.the music was loud. My expectations of an open table restaurant are higher than this establishment meet. I am from out of town so maybe this was an unusual experience.
Being Italian it's always difficult for me to find authentic food. Lucia's is one the very few places where I can find GOOD Italian food.
Pizza is very good and tastes authentic. I had their capponata that was delicious. I never tried their pasta but it looks good too and I promise myself to try it soon. Home made tiramisu desert is sublime.
Awesome service (our server was charming!)and the most amazing pizza. The crust is heavenly. Not for American style pizza expectations. This is the real thing. Super nice people. Best service I’ve had in a long time. I actually appreciated the 20% tip added. Felt a little guilty I didn’t leave a little extra cash. I come from a service background so I understand service. The experience was really great overall and I’ll be back with family as they require vegan cheese.
Really great food, and amazing service. We had a large family gathering at Lucia's and could not have hoped for a better experience. It was so much fun, and our server was incredibly patient and fun. Our food came to the table quickly and it was all delicious!
The hostess was very communiative about getting us seated on a very busy night.
Thank You Lucia's for making our family gathering so special!
Love the food, service is attentive and pleasant. Only hesitation is that the service charge is based on the bill plus the 9.5 percent (regressive) sales tax. We don't object to the 20%, but think it should be based only on the cost of the food.
The ambiance was nice, and I was grateful that we could reserve a table. However, the food wasn't great.
