Come see our special wood fired oven imported from Naples Italy!
Lucia's has been a favorite for me. I have been there 5 times before and always had a great experience and wonderful pizzas. However, my last visit was a pure disappointment. We had a party of seven people and several of the group's favorite food options were not available. We order two different bottles of wine only to told each time it was sold out. So it took 25 minutes just to order and get the third wine they had. The staff communication between each other was not working. The food arrived all at sperate times, some people were almost finished and others had not gotten their order yet. My pizza was subpar compared to my last visits, the crust was soggy in the middle and cold on the edges like it has sat out for 15 minutes after it was pulled from the oven.
The food is really the highlight of Lucia’s. Great pizza and while there are a number of deep fried items, they tasted lighter and fresher than I expected.
Very good! Looking forward to a return to try more items on the menu.
Always love the buzz and friendly service - great for pre-theatre dining
Love this place! Best gluten-free crust anywhere.
Everything was tasty, but the pizza is incredible. The sauce is the yummiest sauce I have ever tried. It’s sweeter than expected, which I wouldn’t normally go for, but the combination of flavors is delicious. Service was stellar, even on a busy Valentine’s Day. Wine selection is good. I will definitely be back!
Poor service. Okay food. Nothing special. Could be much better with a few changes. Just need to try harder. Seemed like a lazy dining experience.
Excellent service. Turns out that our waiter was one of the owners. We will return. I had the special pork dinner and my wife had the mushroom pizza. Sorry but I recall the actual names. The rosemary fries with Aoli were great. I also recommend the buffalo gelato.
Was disappointed. Big decline!
Lucia's is our go-to spot for dinner before a performance at the Aurora theater. The food is always delicious and the staff is friendly and accommodating. On our last visit it was super busy and it took a while to get our food, but it was worth the wait and we got to our play in plenty of time.
This is the best Italian pizza I have had outside of Italy (where I lived for a while)--and I was having the gluten free version. I literally could have wept. My husband and I go here for date nights, but we've also brought our toddler daughter too--they brought her a little plastic cup even. They're super accommodating with GF consumers. One thing I'd recommend--don't get a pizza loaded with toppings. Get a super simple one b/c the ingredients are so good you can really enjoy them.
very good food and service and excellent value for a "pizza joint". Wine list is also well curated. For the price range it merits top rating.
Servers were very friendly but the service was slow. The food was good and plentiful.
The food was good except my latte was lukewarm, my French Toast order was hot and my husbands Caifornia Benedict cold. The service was very slow but they were busy. However, when the bill arrived with a 20% gratuity already added ( for 2) people, it really didn’t sit right with me. The food has enough mark up that they can afford to pay their employees more. I don’t patronize places that add a gratuity, especially for a party of 2. I most decinsurly woukf not have left a 20% tip on this particular meal. This practice discourages me from returning. There are dozens and dozens of places to get good pizza and a good brunch. I doubt I’ll return with this practice in ace.
This is a pizza place, we went for brunch and the breakfast foods, and espresso drinks were great. My daughter had a pizza from their wood oven, also very good, according to her. It is small, and they were busy. Wait staff working very hard. As a warning, they automatically tack on 20% tip, with an explanation that it was to give the staff a living wage. My personal opinion is that the owner should pay a living wage, and either axe tips, or let customers tip for good service. As it was, the service was very good anyway. But, I was slightly annoyed at the message. Why not just raise the prices and pay your staff accordingly? That would be more straight forward.
delightful as always. I love Lucia's gluten free p pizza - it's the best I've had
Lively, friendly, tasty.
open table wants me to say more, but that really sums it up.
Unimaginably good gluten free pizza!! The others in my party were very pleased with their gluten-y meals as well. :)
We were here for a pre-theater dinner. Our salads were served quickly but we waited 45 minutes for our mains. The server explained that the pasta maker was being trained and things were exceptionally slow. In order to make the play we had to cancel the dessert portion of our prix fixe order. The server was extremely nice about it and adjusted our bill. And the food we had (salad and pasta) was delicious. Problems can occur anywhere but the mark of a good restaurant is the ability to roll with the punches and make diners feel taken care of.
Smaller restaurant near Berkeley theaters with both prix fixe and menu. Pasta was very good while salad was a little plain but fresh. Individual pizza was quite good and generous in portion. It is a little hectic and noisy but a nice and reasonably priced spot with a very convenient location.
Delicious and great service. Authentic Italian dishes.
Before theater at Berkeley Rep - this is our favorite spot. They are justifiably proud of their pizza oven -- the pizzas are great. Perfect crust and creative toppings -- at a good price too. Fried calamari was a nice starter and the kale salad was delicious -- Service was a bit slow this Saturday as they do a lot of delivery pizzas, but we had a very good meal and had plenty of time to get to the play. We will be back!
Good food, great brunch, nice pizzas. We always enjoy being there.
The best gluten free pizza I’ve eaten in the Sf/east bay period. It’s a little pricey but totally worth it. The cocktails and the rest of the food that I have tasted is delicious too.
Great pasta and sauces. Friendly professional service & interesting menu. More than a pizza joint!
This is a lovely spot tucked in on Shattuck. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the food quite tasty. All the ingredients seemed very fresh and the flavors were terrific. Dessert was yummy and just the right sweetness. We would definitely come back!
Great for pre theater dining. We always split everything so split fried calamari, a salad and a special pizza. Great bottle of Nebbiolo to accompany it.
I liked the ambiance and the menu options. I felt that the pizzas were lacking in substance and flavor. The toppings were so thin that it felt that I was eating mostly pizza bread (it was good bread). The flavor was mediocre on my pizza, but just not enough of it. My friend liked the taste of his pizza, but again had the same observation about amount of topping. I would probably go again just to see if that was normal or not.
A couple of the dishes were tasty. Special pizza of the day was quite a disappointment. Soggy, bland...
Outstanding service and great ambience. We were greeted with enthusiasm and warmth which continued throughout our dinner. The appetizer, burrata with bread, was delicious. We each had the pasta dishes which were delicious. Topped off with affogatos for dessert. Relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
Great authentic wood fired pizzas! Definitely add the chili oil.
We were there on a Sunday after church. It was good we had a reservation or we would have had to wait. I ordered the special which was like ratatouille hash with a poached egg and a slice of sour dough toast. DELICIOUS! I will be dreaming about this. Tiramisu was very nice. Coffee was great too. Hope to return when we are back in CA.
we've enjoyed lucia's for several years. then in our previous visit, the service was poor (although the food was still good). i wrote a negative review and lucia's owner reached out to me. we tried again saturday and the service was great and the the food continues to be outstanding.
Innovative food, owners very pleasant, great location, pricey but in a very pricey locale. Would definitely go again.
BEST GLUteN FREE PIZZA I EVER HAD. After 4 years of being Celiac and trying them all, this GF has amazing texture and bubbles, there was no way to even tell it was GF. I actually cried it was so good!
Most GF crusts are flat, overly sweet, or tasteless with few exceptions. I never thought I'd get to taste Pizza this good again. The mushroom was the way to go. THANK YOU!! We will be back.
Happy return customers; previous review a year ago. The restaurant is even better and is running smoothly. Seated promptly and the wait staff knows their job--good knowledgeable service. Food is just great, fresh, comes at the right temperature. Nice selection of pastas, salads, pizzas, etc. Wines are decent from Italian house wines to premium offerings. This is a come as you are place and is ideal for before the theater. Enjoy.
This is the best pizza in the Bay Area, hands down. The menu is integrating but not intimidating and the gluten free pizza is the prize winner (and i’ve tried em all.) love the calamari, the caponata, the homemade pappardelle, the prosciutto,...
Lucia's is a very casual place. Pizza is their speciality. We started off with the meatballs. We felt they were very dry. The charred brussel sprouts were very good. I had the margarita pizza, it was good but I like a crispy crust. The service was outstanding.
Great food, but noise level is to high for conversation with anyone not right next to you
