Come see our special wood fired oven imported from Naples Italy!
Great pizza, probably this is one of the 3 pizzerias in the Bay Area that has authentic Neapolitan pizza, and i've tried more than 15 that claim to be authentic. The dough is simply perfect. Great job guys.
Enjoyed greatly, had sufficient time to make our play due to attentive service.
Everything about the restaurant screams authentic, delicious, quality crafted Italian cuisine. We started with a delicious burrata, followed by papardelle with a bolognese sauce, vegan pizza AMAZING!!, and the sopressato pizza. The pizzas are made with perfection! Crispy delicious crust and delicious with every bite. Last but not least, a cannoli and chocolate mousse! Fantastic! Can’t wait to go back!!
This is probably my favorite restaurant in Berkeley. I just came back from a trip to Italy and can say that the pizzas, appetizers, and drinks are just as good here, which makes sense since the owners and chefs are from Italy. Service and atmosphere are great as well.
Nice, casual place with yummy thin crust pizza. Enjoyed a birthday party for 11 people.
The pizza was warm not hot. The waitperson acted like it was annoyed with us.the music was loud. My expectations of an open table restaurant are higher than this establishment meet. I am from out of town so maybe this was an unusual experience.
Being Italian it's always difficult for me to find authentic food. Lucia's is one the very few places where I can find GOOD Italian food.
Pizza is very good and tastes authentic. I had their capponata that was delicious. I never tried their pasta but it looks good too and I promise myself to try it soon. Home made tiramisu desert is sublime.
Awesome service (our server was charming!)and the most amazing pizza. The crust is heavenly. Not for American style pizza expectations. This is the real thing. Super nice people. Best service I’ve had in a long time. I actually appreciated the 20% tip added. Felt a little guilty I didn’t leave a little extra cash. I come from a service background so I understand service. The experience was really great overall and I’ll be back with family as they require vegan cheese.
Really great food, and amazing service. We had a large family gathering at Lucia's and could not have hoped for a better experience. It was so much fun, and our server was incredibly patient and fun. Our food came to the table quickly and it was all delicious!
The hostess was very communiative about getting us seated on a very busy night.
Thank You Lucia's for making our family gathering so special!
Love the food, service is attentive and pleasant. Only hesitation is that the service charge is based on the bill plus the 9.5 percent (regressive) sales tax. We don't object to the 20%, but think it should be based only on the cost of the food.
The ambiance was nice, and I was grateful that we could reserve a table. However, the food wasn't great.
The bartender accidentally spilled two glasses of wine on us. He tried to clean it up but should have received help quickly. We had to ask several times for them to serve the wine again. The eggplant parmigiana was burnt. The pizzas were cold and the pasta with clams had absolutely no flavor. We had to ask for salt and pepper but ended up not eating it. No one asked if we were happy. To add insult to injury they added an automatic 20 percent tip to the bill. When we questioned it the manager said “that’s how people get paid.”
Worse restaurant experience in memory. The manager tried to make amends by giving a $50 gift certificate but we won’t be coming back.
Lucia's was okay. I wanted to like it so much more. The pizza was okay, but was both soggy in the middle and charred in places beyond "it's a pizza oven we imported from Naples." I ordered the shroomy and it took five bites before I finally tased gorgonzola. The service was kind of friendly, but then also a bit too assertive in some ways: "You should look at the menu now" and a bit neglectful in others: we wanted lemon for our kale salad but finished it without before we could get someone's attention. Likewise, we were told the pizza takes 80 seconds so we shouldn't worry about the fact that we had to wait for our reservation. Then we sat with an empty table for 10 minutes after the salad was cleared. Finally: when I told the manager that the soda was flat and flavorless, she knew. "Our carbon dioxide needs to be changed." If that were the case, why did she serve it? There's way too much good pizza out there (especially at this price point) to come back. We appreciated the discount that we didn't ask for because we were attending Berkeley Rep (we mentioned it when they told us our table wasn't ready at the reservation time).
We very much liked Lucia’s and it was very convenient to the Berkeley Rep where we were going that evening. All our food (appetizer, salad, dessert, wine) was good but we were disappointed in our margherita pizza. The tomato sauce was very thin and parts of the crust were soggy. We noticed the pizzas at other tables had more toppings and it looked like they did not suffer from this problem.
Delicious. Loved the food, wine and service. Authentic Italian food.
Great place for pre Theatre dinner. The food was good, the service very pleasant and quick.
Lucia's has been a favorite for me. I have been there 5 times before and always had a great experience and wonderful pizzas. However, my last visit was a pure disappointment. We had a party of seven people and several of the group's favorite food options were not available. We order two different bottles of wine only to told each time it was sold out. So it took 25 minutes just to order and get the third wine they had. The staff communication between each other was not working. The food arrived all at sperate times, some people were almost finished and others had not gotten their order yet. My pizza was subpar compared to my last visits, the crust was soggy in the middle and cold on the edges like it has sat out for 15 minutes after it was pulled from the oven.
The food is really the highlight of Lucia’s. Great pizza and while there are a number of deep fried items, they tasted lighter and fresher than I expected.
Very good! Looking forward to a return to try more items on the menu.
Always love the buzz and friendly service - great for pre-theatre dining
Love this place! Best gluten-free crust anywhere.
Everything was tasty, but the pizza is incredible. The sauce is the yummiest sauce I have ever tried. It’s sweeter than expected, which I wouldn’t normally go for, but the combination of flavors is delicious. Service was stellar, even on a busy Valentine’s Day. Wine selection is good. I will definitely be back!
Poor service. Okay food. Nothing special. Could be much better with a few changes. Just need to try harder. Seemed like a lazy dining experience.
Excellent service. Turns out that our waiter was one of the owners. We will return. I had the special pork dinner and my wife had the mushroom pizza. Sorry but I recall the actual names. The rosemary fries with Aoli were great. I also recommend the buffalo gelato.
Was disappointed. Big decline!
Lucia's is our go-to spot for dinner before a performance at the Aurora theater. The food is always delicious and the staff is friendly and accommodating. On our last visit it was super busy and it took a while to get our food, but it was worth the wait and we got to our play in plenty of time.
This is the best Italian pizza I have had outside of Italy (where I lived for a while)--and I was having the gluten free version. I literally could have wept. My husband and I go here for date nights, but we've also brought our toddler daughter too--they brought her a little plastic cup even. They're super accommodating with GF consumers. One thing I'd recommend--don't get a pizza loaded with toppings. Get a super simple one b/c the ingredients are so good you can really enjoy them.
very good food and service and excellent value for a "pizza joint". Wine list is also well curated. For the price range it merits top rating.
Servers were very friendly but the service was slow. The food was good and plentiful.
The food was good except my latte was lukewarm, my French Toast order was hot and my husbands Caifornia Benedict cold. The service was very slow but they were busy. However, when the bill arrived with a 20% gratuity already added ( for 2) people, it really didn’t sit right with me. The food has enough mark up that they can afford to pay their employees more. I don’t patronize places that add a gratuity, especially for a party of 2. I most decinsurly woukf not have left a 20% tip on this particular meal. This practice discourages me from returning. There are dozens and dozens of places to get good pizza and a good brunch. I doubt I’ll return with this practice in ace.
This is a pizza place, we went for brunch and the breakfast foods, and espresso drinks were great. My daughter had a pizza from their wood oven, also very good, according to her. It is small, and they were busy. Wait staff working very hard. As a warning, they automatically tack on 20% tip, with an explanation that it was to give the staff a living wage. My personal opinion is that the owner should pay a living wage, and either axe tips, or let customers tip for good service. As it was, the service was very good anyway. But, I was slightly annoyed at the message. Why not just raise the prices and pay your staff accordingly? That would be more straight forward.
delightful as always. I love Lucia's gluten free p pizza - it's the best I've had
Lively, friendly, tasty.
open table wants me to say more, but that really sums it up.
Unimaginably good gluten free pizza!! The others in my party were very pleased with their gluten-y meals as well. :)
We were here for a pre-theater dinner. Our salads were served quickly but we waited 45 minutes for our mains. The server explained that the pasta maker was being trained and things were exceptionally slow. In order to make the play we had to cancel the dessert portion of our prix fixe order. The server was extremely nice about it and adjusted our bill. And the food we had (salad and pasta) was delicious. Problems can occur anywhere but the mark of a good restaurant is the ability to roll with the punches and make diners feel taken care of.
Smaller restaurant near Berkeley theaters with both prix fixe and menu. Pasta was very good while salad was a little plain but fresh. Individual pizza was quite good and generous in portion. It is a little hectic and noisy but a nice and reasonably priced spot with a very convenient location.
Delicious and great service. Authentic Italian dishes.
Before theater at Berkeley Rep - this is our favorite spot. They are justifiably proud of their pizza oven -- the pizzas are great. Perfect crust and creative toppings -- at a good price too. Fried calamari was a nice starter and the kale salad was delicious -- Service was a bit slow this Saturday as they do a lot of delivery pizzas, but we had a very good meal and had plenty of time to get to the play. We will be back!
Good food, great brunch, nice pizzas. We always enjoy being there.
The best gluten free pizza I’ve eaten in the Sf/east bay period. It’s a little pricey but totally worth it. The cocktails and the rest of the food that I have tasted is delicious too.
