Excellence of simple fine dining. Every dish was made with love and brings you back to childhood memories about food.

Lovely business lunch with a client & LOVED the shrimp roll!! The service is super friendly & attentive too. I wish the design wasn’t so stuffy though. As a designer it seems outdated & could use a refresh to still be high end, but cozier.

Perhaps I don’t quite understand the hype about Michelin starred restaurants. The food was ok but not great — a nice simple green salad, very good halibut, and a slow cooked New York strip that was underwhelming. The service was off — like what you’d expect in a hotel restaurant — and the restaurant’s location on the hotel’s main floor makes for a noisy experience from people at the nearby lobby bar watching sports on TV or the car and pedestrian traffic right on the street outside the restaurant. I love this hotel and will stay here again and again, but should have known better than to eat in a hotel restaurant — even one that has earned a Michelin star — in a fabulous food city like San Francisco.

Restaurant is quiet and pleasant. The menu is rather limited, maybe 6-7 main entrees. The presentation of the food is way better than the actual flavors, as a salmon appetizer, green salad and halibut dishes were lovely to look at but although very fresh, rather ordinary in their flavorings. I guess if you like food prepared VERY simply you might like this. I appreciate smaller portion sizes, but for $35+ the halibut portion could practically be eaten in 3 bites. I've had far better meals for half the price.

I love LUCE. I have now dined there 4 or 5 times and the food is always outstanding -- interesting and creative without being "fussy" with excellent ingredients and wine pairings. And the service is over-the-top: We were going on to the opera on a Saturday night and unfortunately couldn't spend the time that dinner deserved. Our waitperson alerted the kitchen and managed to get us our food in a timely fashion without us feeling rushed -- we even got to get dessert and coffee! And by the time we left it seemed everyone in the restaurant had been informed that we were going to the opera and they needed to facilitate our getting there on time. Which we did.

Food was generally good. The savory madeleines were delicious. However, food was not exceptional. The octopus that came with the halibut dish appeared to have sand in it. In addition I did not appreciate the call I received from the restaurant earlier in the day telling me that that the kitchen would be breaking down at the time we booked our reservation for and so we would have to order quickly. In my opinion if the restaurant makes a reservation time available, it suggests to me that it will welcome diners arriving at that hour and will not rush them their orders or their dinner. To the credit of our server, he did not rush us during dinner, but the call from earlier in the day left me feeling a bit like we were inconveniencing them for coming. For that reason I would not recommend the restaurant to others.

We were vacationing and family sent us gift certificate to use at restaurant. As soon as we told our server about the gift card which we were supposed to do, his attitude changed abruptly. This was not a discounted coupon, simply a gift card to use. Food was okay, but the only thing to rave about was the risotto. The flippant server ruined the experience. The server who actually presented our main courses would have been much better, but we only sa2 him for that. We have been to quite a few Michelin star restaurants and this was disappointing.

Excellent special occasion lunch at this restaurant. I had short ribs and it was clearly one of the best I've had if not the best. The chef here is amazing! Would recommend this place and look forward to coming back again. My only issue is that I had called to remind the restaurant as well as mention to my waiter that it was my wife's birthday. As is the case for every other restaurant, we get a complimentary desert, however there were no candles? Every birthday needs a cake with candles, don't get me wrong me wrong we appreciate the kind gesture for the cake, but it would of been 100% perfection if they provided the candles.

Great place for a business meal. Close to transportation, Moscone Center.
Features Piero Patri's humanist architecture, and a mindful energy efficient plant.
Dominique Crenna's touch is not too heavy on the breakfast, brunch and lunch menu, which makes it more accessible to our international visitors. Recommend the staff particularly for an attentive but not obtrusive presence.

My son and I wanted to dine at a Michelin star restaurant and this was fantastic. We had the 9 course tasting menu paired with wines. Each course was simply remarkable and sublime. The service couldn’t have been any better. Truly a memorable dining experience. Price was ok too compared with other tasting menus at other Michelin star restaurants.

Absolutely amazing food, topped with top notch service. Our server James provided every piece of information we need without us asking for it. We were very well looked after, with the right amount of banter. We were left alone to enjoy our evening but not feel like we were forgotten. One of the best service we have ever experienced. Cannot fault the food either, we ordered from a la cart and every was delicious. I particularly like the beet starter and the duck main course. We highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions.

A Michelin star restaurant, needs more that great food!
The meal was excellent, creative, beautiful presentation, but the ambiance was a turned off. Impersonal, too big,. I knew it was a hotel and by the pictures knew it was not sexy, but really, if you have a special occasion, you want to feel special. To have a beautiful glass of a sparkling wine, you want to be looking at a wonderful space... at the end of the night, the staff was setting the tables for breakfast for the next morning of the hotel guests ....in the same space I was having this wonderful meal....
I would love to see this chef someplace else...

This was a birthday dinner for me and everything was perfect. I loved the interesting flavors, the beautiful presentation and obvious skill, creativity and thought that went into every dish and detail.

It is a part of the Intercontinental hotel which is also very impressive and parking was nearby in the 5th and mission street garage.

The duck and foo grad appetizer was a perfect meal for me eating according to a ketogenic diet, though I did indulge a little at the end with some dessert with the 3 cheese plate. It was all so good.

We came here for our anniversary and where curious about their tasting menu and their Michelin star status. We completely enjoyed our meal. There were fun cleansing palette surprises that weren't on the menu which were delightful. Compared to tasting menus prices for other Michelin restaurants in SFO, it was a good value. Our only critique is it took quite a while for our server to come by once our meal was complete in order for us to ask for our check. Besides that, everything was 5-star experience.

We arrived 2 minutes before the restaurant opened and were asked to sit until they opened. A party arrived after us, but then were seated right away - before we were seated.

I had let the restaurant know in advance that we were coming for a special occasion, but this was in no way actually recognized by the restaurant. (Not even so much as a "Thank you for spending your Anniversary with us" or "Happy anniversary".)

We could not participate in the tasting menu due to another event in the evening limiting our dining time, but we asked about ordering a single course from that menu as a supplement to the entrees we ordered. The restaurant said no. I've dined at countless restaurants and this was the first time a restaurant refused to find a way to make it work. Other restaurants have always figured out a way to come up with an appropriate charge and serve the course.

Overall, the service was unimpressive and I won't return. There are many options in San Francisco, you can have much better experiences for the same price.

The service at luce was outstanding. Our waiter waa polite, funny, and had in depth knowledge about the food. Furthermore he knew all the details of providing great service which is very rare these days - timing, never interrupting, putting napkin folded back when someone gets up, getting chair, serving and removing plates from the proper side and position, never reaching over someone, making personal exceptional recommendations when asked, and Keeping water glass filled even after the dessert is over. It was all about our dining experience. The rest of San Francisco has a lot to learn from luce.

I should have believed the reviews -- this restaurant is a solid 3 stars, but somehow has recieved a michelin star for the past 7 years in a row. God only knows why. The layout and food service (my boyfriend and I got the 9 course tasting menu) felt what what I'd get/eat on a business trip. Nothing special or personalized, nothing overly stuffy or comforting, nothing memorable about this except for the fact that we both left feeling underwhelmed and questioning why/how we just both dropped $170 each on a bland meal. The food: not inventive. The ambiance: sterile and trying to feel modern but felt outdated. The waiter: frusterated/angry that we didn't get the $65 wine pairing. I won't be back and would recommend you try a different Michelin star restaurant when in SF.

The food is outstanding. We became "foodies light' after our daughter worked as a cook and sous chef in Los Angeles, so we have had our share of excellent meals at a number of restaurants with michelin stars and this meal in US and Europe and this meal was right at the top of our experiences. The sorrel granita with blackberry sorbet was one of the best dishes I have ever had, but others were excellent as well. We had the tasting menu and my husband had the accompanying wine selection. He can be a bit picky about his wines and he loved every one. I had a sip of several and was particularly impressed with how well paired they were with the food. They were all California wines, a wonderful range and we were unfamiliar with all but one.

Great experience that I would recommend to anyone for a special occasion. It was a bit strange that the restaurant was quite empty for a Saturday night. Perhaps they have extra seats for their brunch that they don't sell for the more complex dinners - or perhaps it is just a overlooked treasure.
