We enjoyed the presentation of the food and the staff are friendly.
Had drinks at the bar after a work meeting - good wine list and atmosphere, lively - decided to stay for quiet dinner with a friend - the food was pretentious (and I am a foodie) and uninspired - at least what I had, chicken entre and blue shrimp starter It wasn't bad I just had much higher expectations. Freshly baked rolls and fine wine were the highlights.
Very over-priced menu with limited food options. Food portions were very small. Nice wine menu, but again, expensive. Filled up on the bread, which was delicious. Probably the best part of the meal. Hearty sourdough rolls. The food had good taste, not unlike what I experience at casual restaurants more affordable than this one. If you're in the hotel and don't feel like going out and want a fine dining, expensive meal, this is a good choice, be prepared for $100+ per person bill with wine.
Food was great and service was outstanding. The server (James?) was very familiar with the wine list and was able to recommend great pairings.
Lovely Easter Brunch. Beef tenderloin was excellent as was the dim sum table. Omelets were perfectly cooked. Not enough variety for a buffet. Salad options were minimal. Desert offerings were disappointing with 4 different cake offerings.
Fantastic as always date night
I order fries, and didn’t get fries. I order A, they gave me B.....
Great service, above average food, very accommodating for a party of 5 with a young child.
The duck was excellent, the sea bass unexceptional. Service was first-rate. One drawback: the restaurant is next to a very large bar area, and the hotel where the restaurant is naturally attracts large conventions. So, though the restaurant itself is pretty quiet, the ambient noise level isn’t all that peaceful.
We stayed at intercontinental hotel for two nights, and were excited to dine in at a Michelin star restaurant. However, the experience was terrible. The food was nowhere near Michelin star quality, and the service was poor. For example, we asked the waitresses to bring out more yogurt parfaits, but she said they ran out and refused to make more. We will never dine at his place again.
The overall tasting menu and wine pairing was on point. The food was phenomenal. The dessert was delightful. The service was very attentive but for one particular waiter, we felt his service was a bit rushed. However, for a special birthday occasion, I feel that the staff or chef could have done some special for the guest...like maybe a nice surprised birthday dessert that is not on the menu or an aperitif on the house to make the special evening more memorable that would standout from the other Micheline Star restaurants. Just saying but overall I was happy dinning at Luce.
It was a milestone birthday which was noted in the open table reservation and the hostess was reminded. When dessert can’t the service totally forgot. The hostess did however acknowledge it. The server was polite but so corporate and cold.
Service was very good
Eggs Benedict and omelette was tasty and cooked perfect
The food was good, as was the service. We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel and had access to the club lounge throughout our stay. Most of our breakfasts were in the club lounge, but we decided to dine at Luce one morning for a change of scenery. We were disappointed to discover that about half of the brunch buffet items were the same as what was served in the club lounge. The club lounge’s breakfast was great, but significantly less expensive (when calculating the daily fee for the club) than the overpriced brunch buffet at Luce. We ended up ordering off the menu instead of eating the buffet because we felt that the added items on the buffet (beyond what was in the club lounge) did not justify the expensive cost of the buffet. The made-to-order items were good, but still not worth the cost. I doubt we’ll dine at Luce again. That said, the service was good.
Surprisingly creative and wonderful tasting menu (and a good value). The dinner was made especially memorable by the stellar service by James Dyer. Ask for him!
Definitely a great surprise and wonderful
For our big group
Excellent and fresh, wonderful and kind service. Very happy with overall experience
Luce is a great San Francisco venue, especially if you are staying at the Intercontinental Hotel. It's great regardless of the effort it may take to get to the restaurant. The service, quality ingredients, and attention to the overall experience are the highlights of Luce. Everyone involved makes sure that this is a great choice for your dining experience.
One of my favourites in San Francisco. Great tasting menu and wine selection, the service is spectacular and friendly.
We really enjoyed having our little get together at Luce!!
It was the best food we had so far in San Francisco and Bay Area down up to San José.
The food was absolutely perfect, delicious, great presentation, perfect wine recommendation and just perfect service.
If you appreciate a very good cook, then we would really recommend Luce. I am still surprised and delighted to have found it. Actually I just went by the reviews from open table.
Back for our third visit at Luce, the service as always was fantastic.
The food was very good and elegant.
Food/ service was great. Italian wines were great. Only downside was that we got 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts and we were still pretty hungry afterwards. So if you want to be full I suggest getting their tasting menu but it is pricey.
The food was fantastic. We did the 9- course tasting menu, added the $15 cheese option, and ordered the sweetbread ravioli entree. All the dishes were great but one of my favorites were the pear soda and the Pacific blue prawn from the tasting menu. I found the price more reasonable than some other Michelin star restaurants I've been and believe it to be one of my favorites.
If you're vegetarian, keep moving. There's one veg entree and no veg tasting menu at all!
Great ambiance, fantastic food and wine. Above average service. Other restaurants with tasting menus provide a the menu along with a small treat to take home. Would definitely go back.
We celebrated our anniversary at Luce and were delighted with the complimentary Bouvet crémant upon our seating. Their menu offered an excellent selection of California cuisine. We started with the king salmon confit, beef tartar, and the foie gras - ALL SO DELICIOUS! My husband enjoyed the New York strip steak and I had the snapper with mussels and calamari. Both entrees were well proportioned and wonderfully presented. We ended with 2 desserts, the Pavlova and the Cardamom Panna Cotta. They were so yummy in my tummy and the perfect ending to our celebration. Service (by Jerry, I think) was impeccable. We will definitely return to this special restaurant. It's no surprise why Luce has been awarded the Michelin star for the past 9 consecutive years.
The dishes are very small portion. Three course menu for $65 is not Worth it. Especially the main dish it’s so small that you can eat it in one bite.
Risotto was one of a kind. Shrimp was also impressive. Overall excellent food.
Came here for our anniversary, foods were good and service were excellent! Will definitely come back
The Sunday lunch was a brunch with relatively few choices.
We were on our babymoon and the staff went over and beyond to make our evening special. They even had sparkling apple juice waiting for me when I arrived. The food was amazing and the portion sizes were perfect.
We also stayed at the hotel. Generally speaking all the staff was very responsive and friendly.
Here I include valet staff, check in and out staff, and Glenn who brought our things to the room.
Regarding Luce: Everything was fantastic and food was excellent. James, our waiter, was great,
very friendly and quite entertaining without being intrusive. We ordered the 9 course meal with
wine pairings. Our wine server was very knowledgeable and fully explained each pairing. It was
a hugely enjoyable experience. Lastly, we also had brunch the next morning and enjoyed it as
The food, service and ambiance were very good. The table setting had much privacy so that you barely heard people talking next to you. The servers were very friendly with smile. The food ingredients they used were good quality, healthy. The restaurant's high ceiling and large space make you feel very comfortable. It's very good for friends' gathering and special occasions.
I follow Luce on Instagram (timmyinsf)!
I'm a big fan and will be coming back for more delicious and creative dishes!!
Came here for dinner during restaurant week 2018. The set meal (3 courses) was $65. The salmon appetizer and the amuse bouche was really good, but things started going downhill after that. The main course I got was the sea bass and it was not as tender as i expected it to be. Dessert was alright. I've had better. The environment, ambiance, and service was good. I would come back if it was a date night or if I'm not too hungry. The portions were quite small but since I don't eat much, it was just enough to fill me up/make me content. Not sure if it was worth the $65.
Lunch price was reasonable. Not only their food lives up to their one Michelin Star, I was especially impressed with their service!
Every staff was courteous and professional. Most important of all, they seems really enjoy their job and sincere to the customers! Looking forward to my next trip!
I scheduled a business lunch here and could not have more thrilled with then entire experience. The food was amazing, but the service was even better. They knew it was a business meeting and were very attentive then entire time. We had one party who was late and they were very patient and checked in to see if we needed anything while we waited. Once we ordered the food came very quickly. The staff continued to be attentive, but were also very respectful of our conversation. I would recommend this to a friend or co-worker and will be back!
While this spot isn't necessarily trending in the SF foodie scene. It should not be overlooked. The plates were exceptionally well prepared, so very delicious. The staff offered some of the very best service I have experienced in SF. If you are working your way through the Bay Area's Michelin stars, you will be happily surprised at Luce.
I was allowed to make an appointment for 2:15, but they let us know that their kitchen closes at 2:20p. I enjoyed my coffee, but they really shouldn’t have allowed me to reserve a spot for late lunch. Odd.
Food was as expected, good. James was a very good server, just friendly enough, very professional and did everything to accomodate our special allergy requests. He made the evening special and very enjoyable.
