Wonderful service and good food, great value for the money!
So good! Never tasted steak like that before in my life.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had. Everything was excellent.
Great burger and fries with a very good draft IPA. The Luce Business Lunch at $25.00 per person is a deal.
We opted for the tasting menu and quite frankly it was good tasting but very unexciting in approach, innovation,or flavor paringsWe expected a lot more than delivered Cheese plate extra was pedestrian at best with some very tired cheese selections Ambiance not great being a hotel lobby site with bar next door
The service here was phenomenal.
The service was far better than the value. For the price paid, the food was subpar....
The excellent service was the saving grace... if it weren’t for that, I would not recommend this establishment as the value would be disappointing if it were solely reliant on the food. Panna Cotta dessert was one of the most dismal I’ve had. Portions were awful too. The chicken consisted of two 1”x4” strips... really?!
Our lunch at Luce was pleasant but not up to our expectations for a Michelin one-star restaurant. We had salad, risotto, red-quinoa-and-salmon bowl and fries. The green salad was the best course with very fresh lettuces and a light vinaigrette. The risotto was fairly bland. The quinoa and salmon bowl had excellently prepared salmon but the foundation grains were uninspired. The french fries were crisp and outstanding. The wine list was extensive and had a number of boutique winery listings. Unfortunately, our first wine choice was not available (which we found out 15 mins later.) After another 15 minutes, the waiter arrived to tell us that our second wine choice was being chilled and would take another 10 minutes. He suggested yet another wine which was available right away since our food was arriving imminently. Why have such an extensive list if the wines aren't available or not ready to drink? On the plus side, the ambiance was quiet and easy to hear conversations, which is not often the case in restaurants. It was also a good value, especially the lunch prix fixe menu. Luce would be a fine place to eat if you were staying in the area, but there are plenty of better restaurants available in San Francisco.
Really fine food. The room is not inspired in its decor, but it's comfortable and it was quiet, which I love in a restaurant. Service was friendly without being intrusive or over-personal. They did kind of drop the ball at the end of the meal and we ended up waiting rather long for our check, but it was a minor glitch in an overall highly satisfactory dining experience.
Had a fantastic meal!! I've never been disappointed at Luce. The food is creative and delicious. Service was impeccable. It's on my list of favorite SF restaurants.
We may not have given Luce the best opportunity to shine as we opted for a later luncheon start, but our 12:45 PM reservation was intended to be a leisurely and fun way to kick off our weekend. Alas, the later start time seemed to throw them a curve, and at one point one of our table members had to get up to go a find someone who could help us after our server got lost (perhaps his shift ended?) Not the level of service we expected for the $$ price point, so I can’t recommend.
I loved this restaurant. The service was amazing, and I appreciate how they accommodated my brother's allergy for the Fall Tasting Menu.
I will definitely want to come back again.
No surprises, expectations delivered.
I've been to Luce for lunch and dinner. The tasting menu was fine but definitely no wow factor. Frankly I don't think it lives up to the expectations of a Michelin Star restaurant. Everything seemed very average, including service. This is very consistent with the yelp and opentable reviews I saw and may help explain why the restaurant is never full.
Dyer made the night fun!
Tasting menu had some dishes that were amazing and some that missed the mark. Service needed a bit more coordination. Overall good meal.
James was an excellent host and sommelier. We were two friends from the Basque Country visiting San Francisco. He made the effort to speak Spanish and made us feel a memmorable dining and drinking experience with a great selection of US wines. Thanks for your kindness.
Space between the tables so you can actually talk and not be overheard. Attentive server. Strong wine list. Some value options. The amuse was oddly sweet but the rest was good. I’d skip the ravioli next time.
Not worth the money. I have been in many Michelin Restaurants and I’m still trying to figure out, why Luce deserves a Michelin Star. Food was not excellent or even that good.
Excellent and wonderfull experience!!!
Excellent and wonderfull experience!!!
Excellent and wonderfull experience!!!
Doesn’t deserve the Michelin star. Service was abysmal, glassware chipped, bread stale, servers untrained etc etc
Some ingredients- the rock shrimp in the ‘sandwich’ were delicious, but brought down my a giant plain white bread roll - worked, but overall not Michelin quality.
I would say it should be downgraded to a guide entry only, at best
I loved the atmosphere of Luce - it's where I have my business meals everytime I'm in San Francisco.
First time for dinner! Servers were extremely helpful, food was fresh and extremely tasty
Definitely will return
The food is very good , but the restaurant feels like a big upscale dining hall. Service is ok but could be a bit friendlier.
Excelente comida y atención. Buena relación precio- calidad. Sin embargo la decoración del lugar es un tanto frío y poco acogedor
The atmosphere & service were outstanding. I had the halibut that was cooked perfectly. My son had the duck & it was the best we have ever had.
Wine list is also outstanding.
I've enjoyed dinner at Luce several times in the past, but lunch is an altogether different story.
Today's burrata salad was mostly greens, little burrata, no discernible olive oil, and way too much vinegar. This upset my stomach so much that It was difficult to enjoy the rest of the meal; I certainly couldn't drink any more of the wine.
The short ribs that followed turned out to be pasta with a short-rib sauce, which was not made clear on the menu. There was very little meat. I asked for more sauce; the dish came back with just slightly more.
Needing more protein, I ordered a cheese platter, which was fine.
Luce might still justify a Michelin star for dinner. For lunch it's just an overpriced hotel restaurant with poorly-prepared, pretentiously-small portions.
We had brunch and the short ribs was fantastic!
We were looking for a restaurant before the theater. This place was perfect. Close the to the theater, had validated parking and amazing food. The service was excellent. Certainly recommend this to anyone. While the wine is expensive, the food is reasonably priced for the quality and flavor.
Chose Luce for my Birthday dinner and it did. It did not disappoint! The food was good and the service was good. I’m definitely going back!
All the staff were extremely professional, friendly, accommodating and competent. Great teamwork and outstanding cuisine made for a memorable experience. Thank you to all of you!
Love this place! I would highly recommend it for a special occasion. I can’t wait to come back and try again
Really, really amazing food. The burger’s fanstastic, along with the salmon and quinoa bowl. Thanks!
Despite the poor reviews, we went ahead with our reservation. We were optimizing for proximity to moscone since our dinner guest was coming from a conference.
The service was horrendous - truly. Our server was very pushy about when we ordered and when things came out. For example, wouldn’t let us order wine until we ordered food which of course we pushed back on. I understand the value of ordering food to pair with wine but we wanted to start with a glass...very reasonable.
The food was good - appetizers far better than entrees.
Needless to say, we will not be coming back.
Luce was very good for a hotel restaurant. The creativeness of the menu was great. The Halibut was light, wonderfully cooked and paired well with the veggies. Small bites before and after the meal were brought to the table and they were yummy. The bread rolls and having a choice was wonderful. Parking in the garage on 5th and Mina provides for a short walk to Luce. Also in walking distance to the Golden Gate Theatre. Recommend and will go back.
The waiter was particularly amazing. The food exceptional.
We should have been skeptical when we walked in at 7pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was nearly vacant except for a very loud foursome seated next to us. We were very disappointed by Luce for several reasons.
We were celebrating three 13 year old birthdays, so it was a special occasion. We could barely hear/understand the waiter. He did not have much any knowledge about 'what dark rum' they offered and didn't understand what I meant by rum and diet coke with a lime.
We were asked if we wanted sparkling or still water. We opted for 'still', assuming there was no charge. We were charged $40 FOR WATER?!
The recommendations were NOT appropriate for 13 year olds..sweetbread ravioli's and duck breast?
They would not or could not honor a request for a 'green salad' of any kind. The amuse bouche tasted like soap.
The halibut was less than impressive, essentially flavorless. The steak was amazing, but tiny portion (7oz). The strawberry mascarpone was flavorless. The chocolate hazelnut dessert was fabulous but recommended by the waiter, only if you like chocolate?
The Michelin Star rating should be re-evaluated. Very disappointing.
The bar staff who greeted us took care of us by allowing us to sample the Pinot Noir from Napa and a Cab. Once seated, our server made the experience fantastic despite some tough conversations happening at the table. Overall a fantastic experience, and the food really stole the show. We had pescetarians at the table, and the server made recommendations accordingly that we were fully happy with. I will say this restaurant won't be a good fit for a Vegan or Vegetarian due to the limited non-animal product options on the menu. Just something to be aware of in San Francisco where I'm used to having vegan and vegetarian friendly options almost everywhere.
Excellent food and service
