The food was incredibly delicious. We could not sit outside so the ambiance left much to be desired. The service was spot on, and our server even gave us suggestions as to other places to walk to get dessert. Can't wait to come and eat here again.
This was our second time dining at Luca during our stay in San Diego.
The first time we sat in the courtyard, the second time we sat inside and it is quite a different ambiance.
It was loud and a bit frenetic. The service was not nearly as good as in the courtyard.
The food however was still great.
Our server was lovely and had a sweet personality, but needs some training up on basics. There was a lot of confusion with some basic questions that were asked by us.
Menu descriptions were misleading-or not "descriptive" at all-instead just rattling off ingredients. Is it a sandwich, a burger, a bowl of what? We had to ask a lot of questions.
The food was tasty but portions were quite small-but this is the going trend now with everyone absorbing so many costs.
Courtyard was lovely and beautifully decorated.
Excellent waitstaff; great service!
Impeccable food and service - I came first for restaurant week and was impressed and decided to return for a birthday dinner. The pork belly and scallop starters were delightful (and that brown butter risotto makes me want to swoon) - they were balanced, tender and flavorful. The salmon entree and pork tenderloin were perfection.
Ambiance is outstanding. We loved dining in the courtyard- it felt magical. The service was excellent and food was inventive and very good. Try the octopus!
My husband and I have been there before so we brought two of our friends to see how great the food was at Luca’s.
Ambience is amazing, food was good, hostess and waitresses were absolutely clueless and had no idea what they were doing...
First time I went to Luca was great so when a friend was in town I booked a reservation. They had just put on Instagram their bottomless Mimosas for $15 for Bottemless Sunday Brunch. We get there- Table not ready l, but they were sitting walk ins (I was standing there when they said they had no reservation). We finally get a table, awful seating, cold outside asked for heat lamp- never came. Told they decided not to do bottomless mimosas as they had advertised 2 days prior. Out of short rib for thei omlette and server never came around after he took our order. Told he was somewhere in the back and they’d have to find someone to help us later. Very disappointed. Awful service, terrible treatment to a local repeat customer with a reservation.
Usually the service is good but today wasn’t. Took about 20 minutes to get our server to take our order. Server never checked on us to see if we needed water or coffee refills. I had to ask someone else to get our check so we can leave. Our server disappeared. Very disappointing.
Reservation ran over 45 minutes late from our scheduled time. After 45 minutes I went up to the hostess stand and they said we were next, they sat us at an outside spot which was fine minus the fact that is was a lounge table (not great to have dinner at), we went up to the hostess stand again and asked for a regular dinner table, they seated us immediately at a real table in the lounge. We sat there for 15 minutes without even a single acknowledgment/fill of water/letting us know that we exist. After 15 minutes a lounge server finally came up and apologized that she was busy. It was a Valentine’s Day and I understand that things can be hectic, but the lack of service and acknowledgement leads us to never coming back to this place!
Valentine’s Day have been a bad choice but not too crowded. I’ve been here numerous times- limited menu but very creative and always prepared well. Service was inattentive and slow to respond. Normally much better.
The food and ambiance in the courtyard was fantastic. The service was mediocre at best. Our server was very pleasant and its not a knock on her -- really just poor management/scheduling. She was spread way too thin. We'd go again, just probably not on a weekend evening.
Food was fabulous! Drinks and draft beer great as well. Service was top notch. Portions were small and everything was pricey. But it was one of our Valentines celebrations and well worth it! We want to go back when it is warmer to sit in the courtyard!!
Lovely, eclectic space, delicious food, unfortunate
The Brussels sprouts were amazing. Burger was great.
Waited waaaaay too long for everything. Drinks were wrong. The manager took care of us, but after that experience, I would not rush back.
Great Service, yummy food, great decor. Will return soon
Great food and cool ambiance although a bit chilly as it’s outside and the heater lamps weren’t very warm. No one at the hostess station and the station was not marked so we had to look around the hotel lobby for some help getting seated. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was really good. A little pricey. Would go back.
Our waitress Kelsey was great.
The place was nearly empty. No music. Service was very good. No ramp for my stroller, has to carry it upstairs the main entrance.
Poached eggs were hard boiled eggs.
Place is nice and price is ok.
Was dining with a friend that has syliac disease and cannot eat or touch gluten - the waitress brought out a wrong order and left it at our table due to the mistake and when my friend asked if it was gluten free the waitress immediately said yes. About 5 minutes later another waitress came, knowing my friend was GF, pointed to the dish and said by the way that isn’t gluten free. This caused her to be sick almost the entire night that we were out. The service at this restaurant was awful. It took about 15 minutes to get seated when there was nobody in the dining room or at the host stand. All of our food came out wrong and at different times. My meal was completely missed and I had to sit and wait for my salmon while everyone ate and finished their meals. The drinks took forever. 3 friends ordered dirty martinis WITH olives and they were all served their martinis bare and without the waitress acknowledging it. When she came back to bring the other drinks they asked for olives and she said ‘somebody has to run down to get them in the basement’. Ok gross??? Will not return here.
The chef did excellent things. Sauces were delicate and tasty. The food was very good and I would enjoy it again in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately the service was inadequate. The server was inattentive and we waited excessively for drinks, food, check, etc. The order was done incorrectly but I took it b/c it looked good. It was very good.
The worst part was the service person blamed all the errors on his assistant’s newness.
Super cute. Recommend reservation. Our server was new so she didn’t seem to know about the bottomless mimosas on Sunday or price, but she was sweet and asked for us. It’s not printed anywhere on their Sunday brunch menu so that seemed weird. It’s also listed as a San Diego restaurant week location, but there’s no menu or advertisement listed anywhere so perhaps their specials should be advertised more.
Love the outdoor setting, very comfortable chairs. Food was very good. The bottle rockets and meatball appetizers are quite savory. Hamburger was not exceptional but the dill poached salmon with vegetables was excellent.
Amazing service and the food was delicious! Will definitely go back!
The setting is quite lovely, especially on a warm San Diego afternoon. Puffy tacos and lobster roll were both delicious. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Quite enjoyable.
I've been to Luca twice. The first time was phenomenally good. This time was just good--and not good enough for the price charged. My full thoughts are as follows: 1) The outdoor patio setting is pleasant, but on this visit, it was just too cold. The wall-mounted heaters didn't provide complete comfort--and if they truly can't be turned up enough to do so, then propane or electric heaters in the middle of the courtyard are needed. 2) On my first visit, I was struck by the extraordinary creativity and quality of the drinks. E.g., I had a gin and tonic style drink with flowers, herbs, and pomegranate infused. This time, those drinks weren't on the menu--simpler creations were offered (though still at a $17 price point). If one is spending that much for a drink, one doesn't mind waiting 5 extra minutes for it to arrive because it was labor-intensive. 3) The food was still good--but a little less good on this visit. My steak was well-cooked, but the three folks at the table who ordered the duck were a little let down, in that the skin wasn't crispy this time--which absolutely made the dish on our last visit. So I was left feeling that the food and service were all good...but not $300 for a party of 4 good.
Food was ok, limited selection and small portions. A lot of the food descriptions were misleading. Waiter was very sweet and attentive but wasn’t entirely informed about menu/bar and pricing. Items that were vegan or vegetarian were not marked at all. Would come back for a drink at the bar at happy hour but won’t be back for food.
Outstanding service and imaginative appetizers and entrees. The brussel sprouts are a must. The pasta and truffle sauce was exceptional. Will be back!
Lovely, warm seating in the Courtyard. Great tasting food with a wonderful Happy Hour on Drinks n’ Bites. Highly recommend.
Hotel lobby bar area and open air dining patio restaurant are really beautiful. This building formally operated as a YMCA and the transformation to the hotel and restaurant is Instagram worthy.
We went for a pre-show dinner. The bar was very busy on an early Friday evening but the restaurant was quiet. Food was very good. Nice selection of plates to share. Seasoning and presentation very well executed. Prices are definitely up there. Nice selection and generous pours of wine by the glass as well. Definitely would recommend and plan to return again.
Wonderful staff, charming ambiance and the food was spectacular! Highly recommend the risotto and semi frozen dessert.
The ambiance was wonderful and the service and the staff were wonderful. The brunch menu, not enough selections nor for vegetarians. Had the crab it up with poached eggs over a very flat crab cake, not worth the $18.00.
The decor is stunning both inside and outside, however the inside seating for the restaurant is a little awkward because it is literally the lobby. The staff is very kind and friendly.
They food descriptions and items on the menu sounded amazing, however, were subpar when it came to flavor.
Thank you for the amazing review, Tiara!
