Chef Frank Bonanno dug into his Sicilian heritage and east coast roots to create this authentic Italian Eatery. Brightly painted walls and contemporary art create an upscale, urban feel at Luca, where knowledgeable servers quickly meet your needs and engage easily in conversation about a menu that changes monthly. Luca has amazing personal touches from the daily made breads and pastas to the meats and cheeses that are cured in house, to the charcoal drawing of Bonanno’s son (and the restaurant’s namesake) that hangs in the dining room. Luca is colorful, lively, and tasty; the menu is designed for gluttonous abandon. It’s not your ordinary pile-of-pasta-and-sauce Italian joint; it’s the real (and tasty) deal.

Luca Ratings and Reviews
We did not enjoy the food, and some of our orders were forgotten.
We were attended to very little.
I had let them know it was our anniversary, but no mention was made by staff or our server.
They were busy, but they made little attempt to make us feel welcome.
We did not enjoy our experience.
Luca is the perfect restaurant in all aspects outstanding food, incredible service with an amazing staff both front and back of the house. We eat here at least once a week and would recommend it over any other restaurant in Denver. It is truly our favorite place to go.
Luca was my favorite restaurant in Denver up until my last visit on Friday. It's just bad. The food was terrible. We had an order of rabbit ragu but were given beans, penne pasta, almost no sauce and I guess there was some rabbit but only our waiter could find it. The mushroom fusilli that used to be my favorite dish had so much truffle it wasn't edible. They recently took panna cotta off of the menu and replaced it with a dessert that is an assault on all desserts. I am shocked that somebody created this recipe and decided it was fit for human consumption. After trying it, the waiter admitted it was "different." I would have liked that heads up before we ordered it. It's shocking how bad the food was. Service was good, as usual.
Was visiting Denver for a thanksgiving getaway and discovered this precious gem of a restaurant. Absolutely at the top of the best-of-the-best list for extraordinary dining experiences of my life! Everything from
the food to the service was perfect and I will remember this meal as one of the most epic dining experiences of my life. You must not miss this place!!
We've been twice and didn't enjoy our experience either time. We also noticed the table next to us return their appetizer and one main entrée. We didn't return anything but we were not pleased. I would rather visit Mizuna around the corner for better food and service. Sorry, Luca, we won't be back.
We love Luca! We love Luca! Everything about this restaurant is outstanding. We love the service, the food, the price, the wine, coziness, complimentary valet. Luca first took our hearts when we were unable to go home for Christmas last year due to a snowstorm. We came there defeated & hungry. They gave us complimentary sparkling wine and a table right by the window to watch the snow fall. Seriously some of the best pasta and service I have ever had in Denver. Their meat & cheese plate is so incredible. Get the burrata! I would seriously just go there for a glass of wine and burrata cheese. Last time we went, it was for my birthday for a romantic date. Everything was still consistently incredible. I can't wait to bring my family here!
We experienced another stellar dinner at Luca. All courses, from salad to dessert, had great presentation, subtle and interesting flavors, and fresh ingredients. Our main courses (potato wrapped cod and duo of duck) were very generous in size. We had a great sampling of wines, chosen by Jim, the sommelier, that added to the entire experience. We prefer coming on a week night when the usual great service is even more so. We have always found the food to be consistently some of the best available in the Denver scene. We will return.
Service was good and nice ambiance, but we were pretty disappointed with the food. The appetizer was a new calamari dish – believe it was calamari stuffed with shrimp and spinach (not on the current menu online). It was extremely bland and very chewy, the sauce was bland as well. For dinner my wife had the Lasagnette, and same story, very bland – both the seafood and the sauce. I had the speck wrapped scallops and will say that the scallops were very good and very well cooked, but the risotto that came with it was not very flavorful. We also thought the portions were very small (3 scallops for my dish), and for the pasta dishes the normal size serving is the size of a small bread plate and the large serving size was what I would call normal; so this is definitely not a good value. We wouldn’t go back here
Luca used to be a great dining experience--innovative menu and quality preparation. Sad to say this no longer is the case. Overall quality was very poor and plate presentation was like something from a roadside diner. Ordered three entrees--the osso buco was way overcooked and dry--have had better from Costco; veal saltimbocca was again overcooked and and very poor quality veal; scallops were cold but at least not over cooked. Overall very disappointing.
We love Luca, but we were away a few months, and the new dishes from chef Sean just knocked our socks off! I started with my favorite crab app, and my husband had the new shrimp and spinach stuffed calamari. Both were fantastic: super-fresh, rich and flavorful. I am from Maryland, and I believe it is the best crab dish in Denver! And my husband thought the calamari was incredible, too. On to sharing the freshest arugula salad in town (really!), then to the mains: I tried a 1/2 portion of the new squash and cheese pasta, surrounded by fresh crab (yes, I LOVE crab), in an incredibly rich, to die for sauce (maybe the best pasta I have ever eaten!). My husband had Frank Bonnano’s incredible veal osso buco; sublime and amazing, as always. No room for dessert, but wow! What a great meal!
Everything was going well until the entrees were supposed to arrive. We watched several tables who had arrived after us receive their food and we seemed to have been forgotten. There was at least a 45 minute gap between salads and pasta. Waiter explained that "everyone ordered Pasta at the same time!" I assumed that since this was an Italian restaurant that shouldn't be a problem : / When food did arrive my Carbonara was so salty it was inedible. Waiter was overworked and under informed about some items on the menu as well. Won't be going back any time soon.
We went to this restaurant for our anniversary because I had always heard great things but we found it to be pretty mediocre. The atmosphere was much more stuffy then I would have liked, the server had no personality and didn't seem that interested in talking to us at all and the food was just okay. Pretty disappointed and will not be going back.
We went to Luca to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We were promptly seated, given complimentary glasses of Proseco, and wished a "Happy Anniversary" by the hostess. Our waiter also wished us a "Happy Anniversary" and was very knowledgeable of the menu and made a few suggestions for us to try. We ordered the grilled peach salad and the arugula salad to start. For our main courses we had the pappardelle with bolognese sauce and the ricotta cavetelli with wild boar sauce. We ordered more bread as it was so good! We split the double chocolate layered mousse for dessert. Our meal was creative and delicious! Service was fast and thorough. As we paid our bill, our waiter thanked us for coming to Luca to celebrate our anniversary and said he hoped to see us again! We will definitely go back!
We went to Luca for a celebration and had a great leisurely dinner with burrata, beet salad and the fusilli and lobster pastas. We absolutely loved the fusilli and were craving more the next day. Service was great and our waiter offered us tastes of a couple different wines - we ended up picking an Italian blend that we really enjoyed. Highly recommend this spot!
The only two-tops in the restaurant are right next to each other, so even when almost empty they will seat one couple right on top of another. Always a mistake. How can one have an intimate conversation? The music was loud/techno...totally unappealing for a nice meal out.
Otherwise the food was very good...although a seafood stew should NOT be only mussels (the cheapest type) but these things aside, it was a nice meal and the service was excellent.
Dined here for our anniversary 8/24. For apps, hubby had jumbo lump crab torta, I had tagliatelle Lobster Fra Diavolo. Both had large amounts of perfectly cooked seafood, and were mouth-watering as always (the tagliatelle has long been a favorite of mine). Entrees: his was Ligurian seafood stew, mine was the halibut. Both were standouts on taste, freshness, and handled excellently. The broth for the halibut, which comes separately then mixed in tableside, is not to be missed!
Our only possible quibble could be that his stew did not contain prawns as stated on the menu. There could be many reasons for this which we are not privy to, but it was a disappointment for him. Neither were we told what those reasons might have been; we weren't advised of this at all.
But to balance that out, since the staff knew it was our anniversary, we did get a free glass of Prosecco upon arrival. They also graciously let us taste three different wines so we could decide what we wanted to have with dinner.
All in all, this is still one of our very favorite places in our neighborhood! We only live 3.5 blks away, although walking back up the hill is more ... um, "interesting" after one has dined well ;)
