Great meal in newly remodeled space. Love the new menu. Excellent attentive service. Vibrant atmosphere yet able to enjoy conversation. Knowledgeable wine staff. House made cheese and charcuterie a stand out.
Went here with some friends, randomly chose this place looking for italian. It was delicious. Food was fantastic, wine list was extensive... Staff was nice as can be, knowledgable in all facets of the menu & drinks.
Food was below average. Pizza was burnt on the bottom, and nothing special.
Not sure what is happening at Luca. We spent $200 and left hungry - portion size needs adjustment. Service was uneven.
Must try is the smoked octopus!! Everything was fantastic. You know you had a greatme al when you are still thinking about it the next day.
The staff was asked by 2 of 4 tables seated to lower the music level. They refused, and defended their position.
Business must be great when you can ignore customer requests. Hostess and another waiter had an attitude that was not appropriate.
Order the scamorza, aka smoked mozzarella...served cold and firm, resembled store bought. Three tiny slices. I told the server, and nothing was done. It was so disappointing. All portions were tiny given the price.
Very limited appetizer menu. Hard to find an appetizer to order.
Wonderful Italian food. Very flavorful. Server was attentive and knowledgeable. Friendly service and authentic food.
Returned to Luca after a few years and found the same delicious and creative food and wonderful hand crafted cocktails! The service was exceptional!
This restaurant gets better by the day- now up to 5 stars - new menu and just fabulous fresh ingredients at reasonable prices-you can’t go wrong!!
It breaks my heart to write this. My family and I have been going to Luca for about 10 years and I've always given it stellar reviews but this weekend was our last time. Luca is not what it used to be. I'm not even sure what kind of a concept Bonnano is going for right now. It used to be a dining experience with creative, delicious dishes and an emphasis on service. Now it seems to be going for some cross of the old menu favorites and a hipster pizza joint (complete with tacky window decals). The menu was always pricey but the food was great and attentive service balanced out the value equation. On this occasion however, the service was some of the worst I've ever had ANYWHERE. From the moment we walked in the door it was horrible, just awful, and it went downhill from there. I'm not going to muddy the review with the details because there aren't enough characters to sum it up professionally without me coming off as just a whiny customer. Besides, I really don't think it would make a difference because it wasn't just our server, the other guy working was clueless too. As far as the food goes, with the exception of our family's favorite mushroom fusilli, everything else was simply average and definitely nothing to get excited about. I am so sad to see a great restaurant fall to this level. Such a shame. Arrivederci Luca.
Was disappointed in Luca - Love their other restaurant. Appetizers were great but entrees were mediocre. Much pricier than other restaurant and did not have the same great food. Will not return.
I have been wanting to visit Luca for years, and it finally happened on my husband’s birthday. We were totally satisfied in every way! Glad we made the choice.
We had a wonderful time here for dinner the other night. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for some deliciousness
We went for restaurant week. The cheeses for the appetizers were great. The poached lobster was really good. The carne pizza was just ok. I would go again to try other entrees.
Honestly I was underwhelmed. I am not sure if because it was restaurant week that a special menu is put out with limited portions. But there are some things that regardless of what you are paying shouldn’t suffer. First our server treated us as practically invisible for the first 15-20 minutes. He was polite but seemed to lose sight of us for parts of our time. We asked for bread which we were brought two small very crusty and over toasted bread. The portions were very small so much so that we had to have a snack when we got home. It was like very expensive Tapas. I have been to other restaurants for restaurant week but this was the most disappointed I have ever been. Recently we went to another nearby upscale restaurant, spent less, and left with an excellent satisfying meal that didn’t leave me wanting a snack after.
We have eaten at Luca's many times. But their restaurant week offering did not live up to their usual standards. They should have used the $45 level rather than the $35 level. They did themsleves a disservice with the poor menu and lower quality offering.
The food at Luca is fantastic, but the service has been terrible the last couple of times we’ve been here. They seem to be extremely understaffed. It took 25 minutes to get our drinks and the order was wrong which took an additional 10 minutes. From there, at least 30 minutes passed in between courses.
Sadly, this has become a pattern. Otherwise, the food is amazing and I hope things improve so that we can enjoy our dining experience once again!
Dined here during restaurant week. The food was outstanding and the service exceptional. Will definitely be back to experience the regular menu.
Great staff. Food was all excellent. I was with a group of 9 and every plate was nearly licked clean
Table of 6 for restaurant week. The waiter was less than attentive, and fairly disdainful of our group. Drinks took a long time. Waiter screwed up my guest’s 2nd course, which took a fair amount of time to correct, while our food got cold. He still added a 20% to the bill for “service”. Wouldn’t break up the bill. Pretty disappointing experience.
I hadn't been here a few years and it is still as good as I remembered. We had the burrata (highly recommend), the bolognese, and the short ribs (we were there during restaurant week). Our server was excellent - nice, funny, and knowledgeable. My only negative comment is they recently remodeled and I can't say I love the decor. They could have spent some money upgrading the bathroom too. We had the bread pudding and it was dry and we didn't love it.
Big fan of Bonanno Concepts restaurants around Denver and in the past, Luca was no exception. This time however, for Restaurant Week, it left not a hollow taste in the mouth but rather an empty one. Quality ingredients wonderfully prepared (by Frank Bonanno himself that night) but extremely small portions. Bread is not served. Out of one of the wines by the glass (Chianti...a mainstay which then should have been substituted for a different variety); every dish for the 3 courses were served backwards obviously indicating the mostly-stoic and absent server wrote it backwards. Said server even brought us the entrees for the table next door in error). If they choose to participate in Restaurant Week then perhaps they should opt for the $45 price-point not the $35 and have people leave satisfied. Or, as many do, view it as a bit of a loss-leader, sell the alcohol for the profit (having the selection is a good start here) and get new customers. We'll be back, but because of previous experiences here and with his other restaurants in town, not because of this night.
We visited during restaurant week, and were very happy we did. The food was excellent, and there was a great wine list that included reasonably priced selections. We loved the little touches like bread grilled over a wood fire.
Would not recommend. Bartender did not know wine selections, portions were small and food was sub par (which was surprising considering it was a Frank Bannano concept). Very disappointing and would not return.
we went to Luca to have a nice evening out. The food was great and the service was great. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great dining experience.
We're long time fans of Luca and our most recent stop did not disappoint. We had the Buffalo Burrata and the Crab Cake as starters. The crab cake, while not Italian in nature, was magnificent. The potato wrapped cod was great and the fusilli with truffle cream sauce was a revelation. It was the perfect fit for a nice cold night. Service was impeccable and friendly. We'll be back for another special night out.
Great authentic Italian restaurant. Food was delicious, service outstanding. Being European, I loved that they don't rush you out of the restaurant, and even wait until everybody has finished their meals before they clear the table. Very relaxed dining!
The food was amazing, the staff was great, and the overall ambiance and intimate space was perfect.
Outstanding food and Chef. It will be a go to place for me. D
Great food, wonderful atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and perfect service overall.
No complaints whatsoever. Our server was great and very knowledgeable of the menu. The food was incredible and atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for a date night at an Italian restaurant.
Superb food. Enough said on that score. The problem came with long waits, poor timing, and a dessert item that never did make it to the table. I don't know who to blame. There's a kitchen staff, people who take orders, people who deliver orders, a bar, and apparently people who deliver things from the bar, so it's hard to know who is responsible for what happened.
We ordered a simple menu. Two small orders of pasta, two glasses of wine, one salad and two desserts. No special requests. Just a garden variety order.
We also know that a place like Luca isn't a fast food joint. We don't expect things to come out two minutes after they were ordered. But the wait for a simple salad of arugula & cheese took something like 15 minutes. Then, a long wait for it to clear. Then an even longer wait for two small pasta entrees.
When the entrees came out, the waitperson asked if we wanted bread. We said yes. Mistake! Ten minutes later, three pieces of toasted bread arrived, just after we had given up and started to eat our now cooling off entrees.
Finally dessert. My wife ordered a dessert item which arrived just fine. I ordered a dessert drink that simply never arrived. When the waitperson presented the bill -- WITH the undelivered drink included -- I had to point it out and she adjusted it, apologizing for the mixup.
Luca is a Frank Bonnano restaurant, which to us means it sits at the top of the list for Denver restaurants. And as I started out saying, the food last night was superb. We're actually pretty patient people and are willing to put up with a glitch here and there, but the continual mishaps around the service aspect of our meal make us hesitant to want to return there any time soon.
If you're looking for good food, Luca is as good as it gets for Italian cuisine. But if you go, be on the lookout for a lack of coordination which, if it happens, you should call to the attention of the manager on duty. If we return, we will definitely do that.
I invited a group of friends to join us for Sunday night dinner at Luca. The service was absolutely perfect! Our server suggested the home made meats and cheeses to start, and we were able to chit-chat for a leisurely hour before we ordered dinner. It was wonderful to have an opportunity to catch up! We then had arugula salads, mains and an assortment of desserts for 2 more hours! Every entree (short ribs, Ligurian stew, gluten-free home made pasta carbonara, ravioli, and the lump crab app.) was fantastic, and all diners were incredibly impressed and satisfied with their food. And the check was really reasonable for the high quality meal we enjoyed! What a wonderful restaurant!
Always great food and wine options. Unlike our many past experiences, service was painfully slow. Parking is a challenge, unfortunately.
Excellent food and service
The food at Luca was good, not excellent. The $5.00 charge for bread is unusual, no other Italian restaurant we've been to (Barolo Grill, Wooden Table) has a fee for bread with your meal. In contrast, the bread basket at Mizuna has more options and is free, which is interesting since both places are owned by the same chef.
Delicious food and overall lovely evening as usual.
