Luc is a French-American café and bar named after the owner Thierry Rautureau's father, Luc Rautureau.
Located at the intersection of Madison Street and 28th Avenue in the heart of Seattle's Madison Valley, Luc is a neighborhood spot with heartwarming food, fresh cocktails and a well-selected wine list including our own blend, Luc.
The menu highlights the Luc Burger, Boeuf Bourguignon, Trout Almandine, Chocolate Pot de Crème along with daily specials and a daily specialty dish to be shared family style.

Luc continues to be my favorite Seattle restaurant, in the sea of wonderful places to eat in this city. Our meal was perfect: I had the cod special, so yummy, and my companion ordered the boeuf borgignon (which he almost always does—he’s hooked). We shared a gem salad and as an indulgence we shared an espresso martini for our dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive without being distracting. This is a marvelous restaurant!
Excellent food. I wish our server, while not rude, had been more personable. He just seemed very uncomfortable with his job and questions we asked him about the food. This certainly wouldn’t keep us from going back, however, because the food is always spot on! Wish they still had their pizza oven, though!
Friend's lamb was so tough that she had to send it back. Had to order something else as replacemnent which caused delay. Beef bourguignon was okay, though very light on the beef! Once filled, space was noisy. Service was perfunctory. Sat on hard wooden benches with straight backs.
We arrived at Luc for brunch with friends, the restaurant wasn’t very full. Mimosas were tasty, beignets were fresh and perfectly made. Brunch arrived and the toast accompanying the farmer’s breakfast was burned, as were the muffins on my companion’s Eggs Benedict. Unfortunately it took nearly ten minutes to get replacement breads. Otherwise the dishes - including the quiche du jour - were perfectly prepared and excellent.
Friendly and knowledgeable waiting staff, good food presentation and plating. Food are cooked as ordered. Prompt services, flexible, attention to detail. Interior setting is inviting and relaxing, but lighting is too dim to read the menu clearly. Overall, the entire place is clean, pleasant, and open.
We enjoyed our first visit to Luc. We had the restaurant week menu (appetizers tried were butternut squash soup and duck tartin; main courses were salmon and grilled lamb) and the wine pairing. The food seemed to be of high quality and was perfectly prepared, flavorful, and generous. The desserts were wonderful, especially the chocolate pot de creme. Although the vanilla ice cream dessert may have seemed too simple, served with the honey based sauce and poached pear, it was delicious and elegant. The wine pairing was fun and tasty. It was also a good value, 3 drinks for $21.
The hostess was very accommodating when we asked for a different table and the waitstaff was efficient as well as pleasant, friendly.
The decor was lovely but the table and chairs are rather plain. It was busy that night so too noisy for me.
Overall, we had a fine meal and a fine time and will definitely return.
Hair in the Trout Almonde spoilt things big time.
The waitress did offer to make another but confidence was seriously undermined.
Poor choices for vegetarians.
Seating too close especially when people on next table are pompous and talking to be noticed rather than to have conversation with each other.
We love Luc, but this was not our best experience. We ordered steak frites, and we both found our portions to be small four of five bites of steak, and somewhat tough, relative to what we generally get at Luc - it was restaurant week - and the place was full, and not sure if it was inattention, or trying to stretch portions or marginal meat.
We will return, but probably go for the burger next time!
The server was not sensitive to interrupting our conversation. We tasted the house white wine and it was tepid and syrupy ( it was supposed to be a Pinot Gris). The server alleged that room temperature was the correct temperature for that wine since it is from a cask...? Although the Boeuf Bourguignon was delicious, it too was tepid. We expected much more from "The Chef in the Hat". Very disappointed, will not return.
Disappointing. I was a big fan of Luc: the cassoulet, the wine selection and the ambience.
Last time the cocktails were not good, the food was average and when dessert time comes: the dessert we preordered are no longer available: would you like some ice cream instead ??? !!! Nooooooo
Five of us went to Luc for dinner on a Monday evening. The restaurant was busy and they did not have any problems feeding us promptly. The food was excellent. I'm told that this restaurant has the same chef as Loulay. I can believe it. Both had excellent food and service and I look forward to my next visit at Luc.
The set menu for Seattle Restaurant Week was wonderful. We were a little disappointed with the steak dish off the main menu. It was tough and chewy and when we mentioned it to the host, were told that it's meant to be chewy. That was odd and the only negative from our experience there.
This is a neighborhood "go to" spot. Wonderful, friendly service; nice ambience; food that is consistently good. Most recently had the Sunday evening coq au vin, which was very good. (I do wish they would bring back the Salade Lyonnaise; it is outstanding! They tend to change things out seasonally, so I'm optimistic.) When they're available, the Pork Chop and the Cassoulet are also favorites. I would highly recommend.
My husband's mother was Parisian so I try to find a good French Restaurant every now and then to go out to. Luc fit the bill. The menu made selecting a choice difficult, but once we settled on our choices, we were thoroughly pleased. The trout almondine and beef were wonderful. Topped with a delicious dessert and coffee, we had a great evening and I scored a few points for selecting Luc.
Luc has the wonderful French bistro food that we seek out both here and in France: coq-a-vin, beef bourguignon, a really interesting pear-walnut-blue cheese salad, good french wine. Well-prepared classic dishes and great service. We need to go here more often
Food was good. Value for money was low. I spent $170 with tip, for two dinners, 1 appetizer, one salad, two non-alcoholic drinks, 10 oz pour of house wine (better than some of their wines by the glass, wine list was over priced), and two desserts.
The worst part was they let in a a table full of children with non-attentive parents. The girls kept screaming, making for a noisy anniversary dinner. The hostess didn't have enough sense to ask them to stop.
The ambiance, other than that is good. I think I'll sit at the bar, if I ever go back.
LUC never disappoints. Authentic French with PNW seasonal fresh. The service is great, the wine list leans to French and the dinner choices were perfect...tre bien! There was sidewalk dining but we went for the inside ambience. Our birthday boy was happy with his candle on the dessert too.
