Southeast Asian
Behind an unmarked door adjacent to the wine room, guests are transported to District 1 (China Town) in Saigon via Blackhouse’s 28-seat restaurant-within-a-restaurant, LSXO. A spinoff of the Little Sister brand (Manhattan Beach and Downtown Angeles), LSXO is love letter to the culture, heritage, and lineage of Vietnam (Vuong’s relatives hail from the region). While Little Sister is known for its French Vietnamese menu, LSXO follows the same Southeast Asian inspiration with a more refined, expat feel.

“There is no signage for LSXO—you can spot the entrance of it tucked into a section inside Bluegold, but you’ll have to know it’s there. While Bluegold is light, bright, and airy, LSXO is its darker, edgier little sister, ” says Vuong. “Both restaurants operate out of the same kitchen, though the menus are completely different. LSXO offers straight-up, honest, home-style Vietnamese cuisine—the type of food I grew up eating with my grandparents in the San Gabriel Valley.”

Food great, atmosphere and table service great but the reservation system is consistently awful.
There’s always a problem. This time 15 minutes after I was seated I got a (missed) call from the restaurant saying I had missed my time. When I got home there was also an email saying I had missed my reservation. We had checked in and been seated! This isn’t an isolated incident. Every time I or one of my friends go there, there’s some sort of issue due to poor organization or management of reservations.
That being said, it’s still one of my favorite places and I’ll continue to eat there. The food is stellar and the ambiance and music are fantastic. Great drinks too.
Just bring patience when you go!!

What a wonderful little secret place to find for date night with my wife while on a long weekend!!! I don’t know how this chef made those flavors work together. But it was amazing. We would definitely try to get reservations here again if we come back. So awesome!!

It’s s nice place ! Great ambiance overlooking the beach ! The food was good but not the best ! I’ve been to a lot of Vietnamese restaurant and this is not as good ! Service was quite lackadaisical , they were nice but there’s only one person serving all the tables the other are just assisting so it took awhile to get our food ! We were there 12:30 and finished around 3:45 pm ! Long lunch !!
This place will be nice for a happy hour with drinks watching the sunset !!

One member of our group had pepper allergies - to which they attended wonderfully. They were able to make all but 1 dish pepper allergy friendly, which is surprising for Vietnamese food - greatly appreciated!
The Food was spectacular as usual, even with the dietary amendments.
Unfortunately there was a new bar tender, not the usual Robert, so the drinks were a bit lacking. I usually get a Chairman, usually served in a tumbler (with large ice cube) and quite tasty (spirit heavy). However, this time it showed up in a martini glass up and port heavy, so extremely sweet. Also the Jessica Rabbit was a bit muddled - no distinct flavor, just bland - normally quite tasty with a carrot undertone. And, ... one member ordered a Mai Tai, which I figured would be hard to mess up - but again, the taste was less than tropical fruity and just bland. The Jin and Julius was another fail. All of which is unfortunate for pricey specialty cocktails. So, we all switched to wine.

We reserved at the bar as OpenTable has available bar seating for 4 , however there seems to be only room for 3. Additionally, your bar table is only a few inches taller than the barstools so your back will be shot and will need to be adjusted after 2-hour dinner (back pain). The barstools will need to be shorter with back support, or regular chairs be used. This is no way to eat at the bar, when it is offered on OpenTable. The servers told us that they have told management about this before already without anything being done yet.

They made us wait 25 minutes for our table after they called earlier in the day to make sure we would be on time. There were no meaningful apologies and the staff offered nothing to settle us down. It took an hour to get the first dish which came without the other dishes. Most were cold or lukewarm when they finally came to our table. The staff really did not know how to handle the situation and should be trained to do so. The setting was nice with a good view but we were too riled up to really appreciate it. Bluegold is much better so skip this one and go to the larger and better restaurant.

My fiancé and I planned a night out as a date night. We have been to LSXO a few times and every time the service, food, ambiance is spot on. The menu is a foodie melody! The menu is extensive and you can easily experiment with different selections every time you are there!

We went to LSXO and had a great time celebrating my wife’s birthday. The food was exceptional and the service was first class. We had banh xeo and the Vietnamese version of paella and loved every bite. What was really nice is that they bring the dishes out as you are finishing the previous one and that made the eating experience very nice for us. Well done!

LSXO - Little Sister Extrordinaire
Is a smaller private dining room within Blue Gold. It has an excellent HB view of the beach, Pier & Catalina. The food is Vietnamese, the spring rolls and shaky shaky beef were very tasty! Attentive service, we will be back!

Shaky Shaky beef is a must. Dumplings are great (could use a bigger portion), same with the kabobs we ordered, would want a bigger portion for the price considering it’s a tapas style. Other than that place was great as usual

I have had the pleasure of eating at LSXO before, had a wonderful experience I wanted to return. This time I found the room not a quint as before. It was freezing inside the restaurant and I know it is a dark room, but this time I could not read the menu at all to see the selections and had to rely on the waitress. I didn't care for the selection this time.

Really cool experience unlike other spots in OC. Loved the vibe, but, with hiphop music could see how certain crowds would be annoyed.

Food was insanely good. Not currently drinking so can’t comment on beverages.

Excellent food and ambiance. Went with two toddlers who ate all the salmon clay pot dish by themselves. I was surprised that they catered well to kids even though it didn’t appear kid friendly. Great service and absolutely worth going again and again and again.

Food was very tasty, though it was weird paying so much money for Vietnamese food. Our favorite dish was the Bo Kho, which took a while to get to us. We didn't enjoy the sweetbreads as much. Our seating was at the bar, which was uncomfortable to eat at because the counter was low but the bar stools were high. Cocktails were yummy.

This was our 2nd time there. The first time was better.

The service this time was very good, but slow. We waited on our food far too long, though we were gifted a free appetizer for the trouble.

Food was good and interesting, and the atmosphere was great.

To be honest, I don't know why all the reviews for this place are so high. The beverages are so-so as well as the cuisine. The best thing we had were the dumplings; delicious.
It's a super cool atmosphere and vibe, with great service. But I am not called to go back for the food. I've had better in Seattle, Los Angeles, NYC, Chicago, Miami, etc.
Very overrated and not worth the hype (or price) in my opinion.

Went for Sunday Brunch. Excellent selection on the menu. We had 4 people and ordered 4 items. Food came out one at a time so we were able to share each "course" before the next arrived. Drinks were excellent. Be sure and ask for one with a butterfly. Music was not loud at this time of day. View was spectacular. Much quitter here than in the main restaurant regarding noise level.

My second visit. Loved both experiences. LSXO may seat a total of 20 people or so. While it is a restaurant within a restaurant you will never feel that you are anywhere but a delightful, intimate Asian restaurant. The food is wonderful, try the dumplings for an appetizer. The price is very reasonable. We had an app, two drinks and two entrees for $90. The staff is outstanding, friendly, nice, knowledgeably. You will not be disappointed.
