About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for brunch
Located in University City, Louie Louie is an American bistro with a French inspired menu offering seasonal, ingredient-inspired dishes based on a classical combination of flavors. House-made pastries and an extensive beverage program highlighting wines by the glass and bottle as well as seasonal specialty cocktails and craft beers add to the dining experience. The décor pays homage to Art Nouveau and European cafes with a touch of the 1970s. Traditional wood tones, reclaimed subway tiles, tried and true black and white marble stones as flooring and wainscoting and blue and buttery leathers, fabrics and patterns bring color and graphic identities to the space. The Lounge offers custom lux seating, perfect for gathering with friends for cocktails and snacks. Outdoor seating reminiscent of French cafes is the ideal spot for dining and people watching.

Mother’s Day brunch was very good all around. Bananas foster waffle (hold the ice cream) is worth the extra mile I tack on to my morning run! Croque Madame was a satisfying, if not a little too salty, savory to split with my lady friend. Deviled eggs were straightforward. The bloody ordered spicy exceeded expectations. Perfect!

Louie louie’s accommodation is wonderful. it was a well appointed waiting area with comfortable chairs and couches. We made reservations for first thing in the morning and Mother’s Day. Despite coming early, we had to wait until they officially opened. We then had to wait for several parties that came in and were seated before us. That said, we were properly served, and the service was OK. The menu looked fabulous. We ordered the mimosa mix and some highly recommended entrées. The food was decent. All in all I would recommend this place although I wouldn’t give it a five star rating.

Place has a nice French bistro feel. Drinks were very good and so was much of the meal though not great. Basque cheesecake is wonderful, but coffee was tepid. The latter was quickly remedied by the server. Service was just right.

Great night. Business dinner. Waiter was amazing. Food was great. Noise level a bit high for an interview but it made it lively. Nice job.

I love the ambience, food, drinks and service at Louie Louie. The only issue I had last night, was that our main course was brought to the table before we had finished our salads. I hate to be rushed! Our waiter, Keaton, who was excellent, apologized for this kitchen mishap. I highly recommend Louie Louie for brunch and dinner, especially if attending a show at the Annenberg, which is directly across the street.

Thank you, Paula, for your kind words and thoughtful feedback. We’re thrilled you enjoyed the ambiance, food, and drinks—and we’re especially glad Keaton made a great impression. I apologize for the timing issue with your main course and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We’ll work to ensure a smoother pace moving forward. Warm regards, Jordan-Mercedes Manager, Louie Louie

I usually love Louie Louie but the last time I went there, our waiter asked if we wanted to begin our meal with some bread. We said yes and we got the $12 bread appetizer. Being that most restaurants usually offer free bread, we didn think that we were ordering an appetizer. I feel the restaurant knows that most people are too embarrassed to ask if the bread will be free and take advantage of that to make the patron order an appetizer. That made me very mad. It is probably the reason why they have an appetizer that is just bread and butter. It was warm but definitely not worth it twelve dollars.

Thank you, Margarita, for sharing your feedback. We're so glad to hear that you usually enjoy Louie Louie, but I apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the bread appetizer. We strive for transparency with our menu, and I regret that this experience fell short of your expectations. Your comments are important, and we will work to ensure our staff clearly communicates such details moving forward. We hope to welcome you back soon and provide a more positive experience. Warm regards, Jordan-Mercedes Manager, Louie Louie
