Louie Louie Bistro Bar
Book your next event with us
Need to book at 10:30 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The overall experience was really great. The whole staff was warm and friendly (host station had some “too cool” attitude early, but relaxed once they realized we were patient and understood the fluidity of brunch reservation). The food was all good, with strong flavors and a great selection of lunch and brunch items. Good mixed crowd of Penn students and professionals along side locals.
Would recommend the French Dip Roast Beef sandwich! Save room for desserts which were delicious!
Made a reservation for Valentine’s Day for my boyfriend and I. We arrived on time and was told we would be seated in a moment. We were fine with waiting and about to grab a seat at the bar to have a drink. About 2 minutes later we were seated at our table. Instead of seating us in the main dining room, which has beautiful decor and a great ambience, we were seated in a small section by the main lobby stair case. Not very romantic for Valentine’s Day. Felt like we were on a corner or a space they made for additional seating due to the holiday. Service wasn’t bad but some things took a while. Maybe because we were seated not by the main dining room. We had a 8:45 reservation and didn’t leave the restaurant until 11. Which would be fine; but we felt like we were getting tired because of where we were seated. Had we been in the main dining room the energy/vibe may have been different. Not terrible but not worth going back. This was our second time there and was not impressed either time.
I decided to try Louie Louie for Valentines Day this year. The wife and I have our usual place we’ve been going to celebrate, but I took a chance and it was well worth it.
Both the food and service were on point all night. Our server, unfortunately, I don’t recall her name, was great.
We will definitely return!!!
Valentines Day- food excellent and service handled efficiently and warmly for such a busy night!
I just wish they had advised on their website that the happy hour was only for the bar seating, or really any info regarding their happy hour on their website, we rushed to make it there early on a weekday to make the happy hour and weren't told until we were seated that it's only for the bar. Ended up being very expensive for just good food, we got a cheese board, lamb osso buco, the grand louie burger, cocktails and a creme brulee for dessert- out of all those items nothing to rave about, maybe we didn't order their specialties? Kind of just felt like a pretty diner for rich people.
My adult son and I went to Louis Louis for lunch pre-performance. Our experience was less than satisfactory, We both got salads and added grilled chicken. Mine was fine, my son's chicken was undercooked. It took some doing to get the server to come over and take the raw slices back to the kitchen. It took a very long time for her to return. Instead of bringing out a new portion, she came back with the undercooked slices which were now overcooked. It took so long that my son had finished his salad greens. We were not offered any beverage refills at any time during our stay.
There are ways to salvage a bad situation - like dealing with serving raw chicken. Don't charge the guests for it, offer a beverage refill, try to bring food back to the table quickly, maybe comp a desert.
I would not be writing my first negative review if my family members had not worked in the restaurant business for decades. I know the lengths that they have gone to make sure that guests have a positive experience.
The food is absolutely delicious as is the drink menu! Our server Chris was so great and patient we are a rowdy group of women when we get together and he was so patient and kind and made us laugh! Can’t wait to go back especially for the cauliflower appetizer yum!
Second visit to Louie Louie. Restaurant is fine looking, cocktails are great, noise level is manageable, and the service is remarkably friendly and competent.
So why only 4 stars? The dinner menu is...weird. I get that it's trying to be a french bistro, but this is America, and Americans expect certain staples - like pasta on the menu. What they offer is well prepared, but we struggle to find an app and entree we're dying to try.
Great place for brunch, lunch or dinner.
Our waiter Chris was fantastic. Food was good and the ambiance was even better!
We will be back.
Excellent night out. This was our second experience at Louie Louie, but we took two friends that had never been there. They absolutely loved it. We wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed desert or maybe after dinner drinks by the fireplace - but we had to run. Can’t wait to go back
The noise is deafening. The food was mediocre. The service was find.
It was perfect for what we wanted—buzzy, good service, good food, chic, and not too expensive (or too loud)
Ambiance was better than the food. Cool deco and vibe. The food was good but overpriced and not worth it overall.
It was our first time and we really enjoyed the experience. We would definitely go back.
Wonderful dining experience. The trout dish was truly sublime and the chocolate cake dessert was what chocolate cake should be!
Amazing variety of options and the space is wonderful! Comfortable and spacious not like most city restaurants!
Our server had a very bad attitude with no personality or sense of humor. He dropped our drink all over our child but besides that the food was delish and place is beautiful. The drinks are also very good.
The food was delicious and the service was great! A big thank you to our server Chris who was always attentive and kind.
It was a great evening we plan to repeat.
Started at the bar which was wonderful.
Later enjoyed a great table. The service, food and wine were all excellent.
Awesome food! Unfortunately were out of the lobster roll by 1pm so I was disappointed.
Only recommend going for drinks/couple apps or for happy hr. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Expensive for not that great of food.
Feels like you’re in a Parisian Bistro. And I’m obsessed with their cosmopolitan cocktail
They are very respectful, food is great and even better service. Also very nice homelike vibes inside great for meetups or any occasion
Great atmosphere for lunch! Bright attractive decor, good food and service!
Really liked this place but they close at 10
Great service, delicious food and drink and warm ambiance.
Went Christmas eve and received terrific service and the food was delicious. Will return for sure!
Nice decor, good selection on menu
French onion soup slightly greasy and salty
French fries greasy
I went to Louie Louie for lunch. This restaurant is very good. The service and food was very good. The atmosphere is very nice. I will definitely return.
A warm, colorful, comfortable place for a small family celebration. Food was fine, nothing exceptional, a touch pricy for what it was. Service a bit on the "suggestive" side, but fine.
Holiday dinner with my department.
So first let me say that this place is absolutely beautiful!!! That was indeed my favorite part of this very unsatisfactory experience. Our waiter Chris was not the most pleasant part of the experience. Rushing our order, overcharging for items, and not being forthcoming or accommodating. He and he alone will be the reason why my friends and I will never return.
We always go with a group and the service is great. Very good about separate checks too. Food was delish!
My first time here and was impressed. From the moment we walked in, every staff person we encountered were very friendly and attentive to the 3 of us. Loved my appetizer - date stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon - not something you see on every menu. My fellow diners ordered lobster bisque and French onion soup. Entrees chosen were trout and MahiMahi paella. Dessert yummy. Can't think of a negative to say about our dining experience here which is a great thing to have happen.
Great restaurant! I highly recommend it!
