Louie Louie Bistro Bar
Nice menu options. Had 2 burgers, the chicken, a tuna tarre tar app, one glass of one and the bill was over $100..... a bit step for a college restaurant. They should have a few student selections of lesser cost on the menu. Glad we sat off to the side because the main room seemed very noisy.
That being said.... food was very good. The breads amazing !
The ambiance is beautiful but the food disappointed. The French Onion soup was decent, but nothing to write home about. The Cobb salad honestly tasted like the dressing may have been mixed with floor cleaner. The goat cheese ratatouille omelette was missing goat cheese. The side of toast ordered came out at the end of the meal. When we asked to cancel the toast we were told it was in the process of cooking and they couldn’t, which made very little sense. The food was extremely overpriced. Our waiter seemed very out of it. Wish it was better because the decor is beautiful.
This is a great addition to University City and a huge upgrade to the former restaurant in this space. Setting is great and the Brunch was delicious.
Warm and Extremely Personal, the food is outstanding and served to perfection...
Great brunch menu. Creative decor. Excellent service staff. Nice detail with birthday card!
This place is so cute and has such good food and service! I will definitely be back and will be telling all my friends and family about it.
Overall I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The esthetic was pleasing and enjoyed the fun vibe. My criticism is of specifically my waiter. He seemed friendly enough, but would disappear for long periods of time. When asked if there was any pork in the soup, he condescendingly says oh no there's no pork in bisque....the horror or asking such a question. When someone is avoiding certain foods responding with disdain is not appreciate. Also it was difficult getting his attention to bring more food and water and basically we gave up at that point. Overall we liked the restaurant, but would try again with a different waiter. Hope the snobbish attitude is not an overall reflection of the establishment.
This is a great option in W Philly for a nice, spacious restaurant with a wide range of food option. Food is fine—not off the charts. But the service was very good. And the restaurant wa comfortable. Excellent for groups.
Seven of us had dinner. We started in the lounge. Great service. Good food. A little loud.
Excellent bistro food and terrific service. Would recommend
Lovely server, food is good. Trout a bit heavy on the butter but tasty all the same.
Good atmosphere . Good service . It would be nice if they have certain foods from the lunch menu on the dinner menu . And it quite pricy for what they offer .
Overall, not bad at all .
The only thing I was disappointed is that we asked to move our seat and they said they had to check because they had a lot of reservations and the restaurant just opened and was not even 1/4 of the way full. It was still great food and great service.
It was Saturday night and it was extremely crowded and loud which is understandable but the service was terrible. Took over 30 minutes to get a drink and an hour for finned. I was with 3 young kids and there didn’t seem to be any concern or apologies about the wait,
Convenient to our destination across the street from the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts
We were a group of 6 and had great service from Chris, Sat 3/2 at 6pm. The only problem was, it was too loud to have a conversation without almost shouting.
A great meal. The food was superb. My daughter LOVED the lobster bisque (a favorite food). I had a delicious papardelle made with shrimp ragout and seasonal vegetables and my husband had the duck, which he enjoyed very much. My husband has a rather severe lactose allergy (even butter bothers him)and the server and the kitchen worked hard to modify his food without sacrificing any flavor. My daughter finished her meal with an absolutely HUGE piece of chocolate cake and a glass of iced cold milk. We left satisfied and awaiting a return!! I think it was a little overpriced, but for such a great meal and experience, we willingly paid the bill.
Great French onion soup, prompt service, quite noisy- not good for table conversation.
The restaurant is in the lobby of the Penn Hotel and across the street from Annenberg Theater. It is much too noisy and I will not return to this restaurant. Wait staff was great.
Too noisy for a relaxing dinner.
As many of the reviewers have noted, the food and ambience of Louie Louie are very good, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I had dinner engagements at the restaurant twice in two days. During the first engagement, we had been sitting for 15 minutes with no attention from anyone--not even a glass of water. My companion finally snagged a server and begged him to wait on us. He apologized, and they gave us a dessert on the house. The second night, I asked the hostess if she could please let the server know that we were there, and that worked beautifully. I would urge all diners to take that extra step to ensure better service.
We met some friends for a bite here. The atmosphere was lively but not loud. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our meals were excellent. Starting with the excellent butternut squash soup set the bar pretty high for what to expect next. I was not disappointed - having just returned from Scotland I ordered Scottish Salmon and it was excellent. All my fellow diners were equally pleased with their food, including tuna tartare.cheeses, trout almondine and a huge piece of rich chocolate cake. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Your stereotypical overpriced brunch spot.
The food was absolutely amazing. My only issue is we had a reservation for brunch at 12:30, we then did not get seated until 12:40. Then no one checked on us until 1:00, which was quite annoying. Although, when we said something we were serviced right away and drinks were on the house. Definitely would recommend going back, the ambiance was so cool!
The service was so horrible for a Sunday brunch in a restaurant that was half full. The waitstaff was highly unapologetic for their shortcomings and mistakes. The waitress wasn’t attentive. It took us forever to put in drink orders/coffee refills. The portions are also on the small side for the price. Perhaps one is paying for the ambiance which is phenomenal!
The atmosphere was lively but not too noisey. Love the retro 40's vibe. Great signature cocktails. I had the "I left My Heart in Gallaway Girl". Very tasty. The service was terrific. Friendly, very informative. The pace and timing of the different courses was perfect. It wasn't rushed and we didn't feel like waited for anything. Can't wait to go back.
Always a great time at Louie Louie. Our server was hilarious and attentive. Food is always good. A little pricey, but worth it for good brunch.
The Food and Ambiance was Amazing - the service could use some help, the Manager was very attentive and aware that the staff seemed a little overwhelmed....
The French dip is strait fire... would come back just to eat that. Happy hour is sweet, my girl loved it!
Waiter was very helpful and friendly. Food was very good. Would definitely go back. Only negative was waiting to get our table for a while when we had a reservation.
We had a wonderful Valentine’s dinner there. They were busy but everything was great. We’ve been a few times and it keeps getting even better.
Beautiful interiors, friendly and attentive service, good food.
Made a reservation here for my friends birthday and our expectations were exceeded by far. Most restaurants have lost touch with going out of their way to celebrate a birthday but Louie Louie blew us away right down to the hand written card on the table when we got there! The service was quick, our waitress was friendly and attentive and the food was absolutely outstanding, all 4 girls in our party had BARE plates after the meal. After dinner we walked about 20ft over to their 70s inspired cocktail lounge. The whole experience was a 10/10.
Outstanding food and service. The butternut squash soup was delicious like a warm hug.
Food wasn’t great
What an excellent addition to University City dining scene! My husband, our college age daughter, and I had a wonderful dinner on a busy Saturday night. We ordered a uniquely prepared oysters rockefeller and the bacon wrapped dates to start. The portion of dates was on the small side, so we actually requested a second order which came to our table extra fast! We had three different main dishes - the steak frites, the duck, and the short ribs - and I'm pretty sure we all cleaned our plates! All our dishes were cooked and flavored perfectly. Our server, Sara, was attentive , quick, helpful with suggestions, and oh so personable! The restaurant itself is just beautiful. We didn't have a chance to sit at the bar on this visit, but we will definitely plan on arriving early or staying late on our next visit..and there will be a next visit!
Our waiter was wonderful! He didn't rush us and he allowed us to truly enjoy our meal . His suggestions were great .
This could be a fabulous restaurant. Last spring when it opened I brought in a guest speaker and others and they got us served quickly (we had a train to catch later in the evening), were attentive and the food was excellent. Now, Louie Louie seems to concentrate more on their bar and lounge area, that is not separate from the dining room at all. Loud music in a place with no accoustics and though we were in a small booth we had a hard time talking across the table. Our waiter was atrocious--even though we asked to be finished by 9:00 (that was a 2 hour and 20 minute serving window) he repeatedly was over the the servers station just shooting the breeze with other servers and looking at his phone. Even though we asked to order all at once we got water...then waited, then a drink...waited..then took appetizer order and took off to place it even as I was saying "wait, wait,..." then finally got around to the main order. We didn't get out until after 9:00. The food was ok, not great. Escargots overcooked and in a thick sauce that tasted ok--it wasn't repulsive but not what one would expect given the description; my duck was a bit chewy and overcooked despite the waiter coaching me saying "you want this medium rare" as if I didn't know. They will survive because there are not a lot of good options for taking professionals and guests to dinner around the Penn campus, but I will be going elsewhere next time.
Everything was phenomenal! Service and food at his best! They know all about hospitality! Thank you Steph!
I was really impressed with my first visit! The décor is beautiful and love the new space. I took 2 co-workers there and they loved it as well. I had the sandwich with ham, cheese, and the egg on top. AMAZING!!!! We shared the burrata appetizer, which was also delicious!
I will definitely come back!
