Lou Lou Food + Drink - St Matthews
One of my most favorite places to eat. Food is always fresh, hot, and outstanding. Service is fast and very attentive. I took a party of five there last night and they raved about their food, and said they would definitely be back, and said they were telling and suggesting it to their friends. They were very impressed with both the food and service
Tom was our server. He did a great job, only there when needed and made some great suggestions. Shrimp and grits were an excellent appetizer. All in all I would recommend Lou Lou’s. We will be going back for sure
I found the food to be average and overpriced, overall. I was up-charged to sub a vegetable, which was disappointing. I had salmon and it certainly wasn't worth the total price for the meal. The restaurant decor doesn't have a theme (it's not decorated well) and it's very blah. We had a reservation. We were seated quickly and they served our food expediently, which I liked and appreciated. Other meals I am told, were evidently good (shrimp n grits). My # 1 issue is with the employees' appearance and hygiene. Last night I observed a male employee with long hair and a long beard (wearing black gym pants, t shirt, and tennis shoes) going in and out of the kitchen serving food, numerous times, no hair or beard net. Some employees had on t shirts and jeans. Several employees had unclean/unkempt appearances. It was impossible to tell what the dress code actually was. For a $30 per plate meal, I don't want my food being carried or made by someone in gym clothes with no beard net.
The pasta primavera was great. The salad was cold & crisp. The artichoke pizza was wonderful. The bread pudding was out of this world!
Went for mid afternoon meal on NYE! Wanted to beat the rush! I had the pasta carbonara-it was delicious! Hubs had the bayou trio of gumbo/jambalaya & crawfish etouffee It was served with dirty rice, which I don’t normally like but the rice had good flavor. I was looking forward most to trying the gumbo (hard to find good New Orleans style in this area) After adding hot sauce & little salt it was good but not great. The etouffee was good but the jambalaya was great!! Flavors were perfect! We had the bread pudding for dessert-yum yum! Will go back again!
Atmosphere is nice. Ownership accommodating. Food was average and overpriced.
Went for the Low Country Boil. The tub of shrimp had maybe 3 dozen shrimp, a ton of potatoes, a few mushrooms and a few 1-1.5 inch pieces of corn. The “gumbo” was a thick, sticky steam pan of mostly rice. The etoufee was at least marginal. The only thing going for it was the beer menu.
Not super busy at the time I dined. Service good and food good. Glad we didn’t have to talk loud to converse for a change. Will return soon.
We are regulars and service, food, and drinks are always outstanding. It's the perfect balance of quality, well-made food and a casual, friendly atmosphere.
I am always impressed by the quality of the food. Also their specials each night are wonderful
Great little place! Local neighborhood feel and the food was great. Wine was too! The smaller portion pasta was perfect.
One of our favorite places! Excellent food and service! Staff is the best!
The service at LouLou Food &Drink has gone way down after the management was changed from Cafe LouLou. We used to go all the time. Now, we go occasionally and forget why we don't go often until we go back and the experience is bad again. This was our last time we will ever be going.
My husband’s hot brown was great, 4 stars. My sons crab cakes were good. My Cobb salad was just ok. It was small and had deli turkey on it, would not get it again. That’s why I gave them 3 stars, based solely on the salad.
This is my go-to for BBChicken pizza. It is my absolute favorite.
Can’t wait to go back!
mushroom soup was wonderful
chicken lettuce wraps were great, not too spicy, just right
We were a table of 8. Service was excellent and the food was very good.
Very steady - we eat here and the food is always good, the service attentive and the volume of noise is rarely a problem. One of of our favorite last minute go to’s!
Quaint restaurant, amazing and attentive staff, excellent food. We will certainly return.
Our spinach artichoke pizza was outstanding. Our salads were cold and crisp.
For my liking, a little pricey and food was seasoned heavily.
Good food, but lunch portion was way too big. Service was good and food was tasty...just needs to be a smaller portion.
This was our first visit to Lou Lou and my wife and myself were completely satisfied. John the bartender/server answered all questions and we took a couple of his suggestios and he was spot on.
The food was good, no complaints at all ,drinks were good. I even met an old friend as I was leaving. I will be back and I will recommend to friends.
I hadn’t been to Lou Lou in a while. I clearly need to shorten my time between visits. The food was fantastic, and the menu made it hard for me to pick my entree (I went with the Hot Brown, which was a delicious rendition of the dish, pretty classic in presentation and very well executed). Cocktails were very good as well. Service was courteous and appropriately attentive (not lurking there every two seconds, but we didn’t wait for refills or sit around waiting to order). Crowd was moderate, noise level was fine (it was easy to have a conversation). Great spot.
The food was just OK, not nearly as good as it has been on previous visits. The noise level made it almost impossible to hear others across the table and the restaurant was only about half full at the time. The service was excellent. We will definitely be going back and hopefully the food will improve.
Great service and food was amazing!
We went for lunch and the food was really good. Nice variety on the menu
Best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. Also, the bread pudding is awesome.
our sandwiches were outstanding.
Lou Lou was great as usual! We love their wedge salads. My husband had the small (which was anything but) pasta carbonara and raved about it! I had the Lou Lou pizza and it was superb - crust was perfectly cooked and the topping flavors were outstanding. Our waiter Tom did a super job checking on us and refilling or water/soda glasses.
The food was relatively good, but it's the little things that count as well. The table was not entirely clean, the front entrance has two empty magazine racks, one of which has trash piled up on it (empty drink cups, etc).
Always a great meal with friendly service at Lou Lou -- today was no exception. I had the wedge salad which was fantastic - great dressing and tons of bacon pieces to complement the iceberg wedge. My niece had the gyro and Cajun crisps and raved about both. A great way to start the weekend!
Food was not good and several other tables were sending food back. Over priced food and drink. We won’t be going back.
My husband’s Chicken Marsala Bow tie pasta was bland and he hardly ate it. Spaghetti & Meatballs was just ok. My Chicken Carbonara was pretty good. The Jambalaya was good.
It was very hot in the place and lots of flies. Will not go back.
Fantastic food. Prices and values are great. Awesome service. Perfect gem in St. Matt’s.
This was our 1st visit and we will return. The food was excellent. We had the crab cake appetizer and is was delicious as well as the crab soup. For entrees we had shrimp and grits and halibut special, both delicious. For desert do not pass up the toasted marshmallow brownie dessert. It was the perfect sweet salty combination. Our service was outstanding! The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed.
The food, service, and value were excellent. We really appreciated how quickly our group of 10 was served (we had prior reservations and they were set up and waiting for us, which was great!). Everyone's dishes were perfect and exactly what we were looking for. This was a restaurant I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Louisville.
our salads were crisp and cold; the spinach artichoke pizza was wonderful! if only they would bring back the smoked salmon pizza!
Always excellent food & service!
