Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

The seats are old and ripped up. This is a great restaurant, I just wish they would update their booths so it does look so run down and rub roughly on the back of your legs.

We made reservations for 6 people and were seated immediately. It was a Saturday night so it was necessary. The food quality and service were excellent. Our favorites were the noodles with the crispy duck skin and their specialty shrimp.

The servers and staff are super knowledgeable about the food and menu and were able to make great recommendations for our party of four. We got the Pork Larb Salad and fried wontons to start. We followed that with chili basil lamb, pork pad see ew and chicken Penang curry. Everything was incredibly delicious. The sticky rice was great as a side. And the sweet sticky rice with mango sorbet was the perfect dessert.
