The kitchen, run by Executive Chef Joseph Evans, serves up dishes that do justice to the restaurant's qualification as a 'boutique steakhouse.' Every time I eat here, I always get the Cajun filet mignon. It’s delicious and is always cooked to a perfect medium rare. Also, I don’t see this particular item on the menu at many other restaurants. Once, I did see it at another restaurant and was very excited. What a disappointment! The other restaurant simply put “Cajun seasonings” on the top of the filet. That is not how it’s done here. At Lost Society, the Cajun flavor is throughout the meat and adds flavor, as well as (not too much) heat.
This time, I decided to try the lamb chops because they looked delicious at a nearby table. There were at least 6 lamb chops in the serving and they were delicious. I’m not sure how they were seasoned, but there was a sweetness to them. I’m not a big fan of “sweet”, but I thought these were great and I would order them again. My only regret is that “medium rare” was not an option. However, the chops were moist and very tasty.
The optional sides are all good, but the mac n’ cheese is fantastic. The sides are meant to be shared, but I could eat this all by myself.
For dessert, the bread pudding is a must have. Lost Society is one of the few area restaurants that does this dessert very well.
The Happy Hour specials are great. Many of the drink and “small plate” menu items are half price.
Lost Society is on a regular rotation for us ... typically a "date night" without the daughter. The restaurant is simply great: great atmosphere, great food, and attentive staff. The only criticism that I would have is the wine list: it's lacking ... OK, if you're a wino, t's actually kind'a crappy. Nothing more than about $40 and acceptable wine but if you're spending $50 on a dry-aged steak do you really want to eat it with a supermarket wine? Got your own wine ... perfect ...Lost Society accepts BYOWine and charges a $25 corkage. Good excuses open-up a grand cru class Bordeaux from your own cellar. (If you're a mixed drink person ... you'll be happy at Lost Society: they get creative.)
Arrived and headed upstairs. We had a reservation and was seated quickly. The brought over chips and took our drink orders. The wedge salad was great (love the little slabs of bacon in it!!). I had the fork and knife burger sans a bun & it was delish. A colleague raved about their mussels and side of sweet corn.
It was a little loud and Infoudn myself leaning in to her the conversation at our table of three. Our waitress was fabulous and super attentive.
All in All - solid food and trendy decor made for a good dinner
Great Steak options. I had the wagyu skirt steak, and it was amazing--served with the best chimichurri sauce. They don't serve anything above medium rare, which I love. Everyone was a big fan of the Brussel Sprouts appetizer. Service was attentive. They do take a limited amount of checks, but that is pretty standard these days but makes it a little more difficult for a bigger group. Affordable wine selection. I wouldn't recommend the BLT (Unless you are strict paleo) because they serve it with parsley, a thick slab of Canadian style bacon and no bread. My friends enjoyed their salads.
The food and the happy hour menu is pretty good and definitely value for money. Would definitely recommend the Mac n cheese and the cheesesteak egg rolls.
We opted for rooftop seating for our dinner reservation but it turned out that there was a large group that got bigger by the minute having cocktails there. We were not advised when we asked about seating that they would be there and it was extremely loud, crowded and people kept putting glasses and their dirty dishes where we were eating. Had we known that this group would have been there we would have opted to sit downstairs instead even though it was a lovely day and we got there just as they opened to ensure we could sit outside.
Make sure to ask if there are any groups being hosted before you are seated.
Many of my friends have recommended and even performed here on Rooftop Sundays bottomless mimosas brunch. The creative menu is authentic. Took a while Sat.nite to get manager's assistance since it's very busy weekends/DJ nites, to get wheelchair access elevator up, but all door staff were accommodating. Bartend didn't hear me, since its fairly loud/music playing, and I didn't get a menu until kitchen almost closed 1130p. The huge portion of sheshido peppers were lil too oily for me, didn't see the mayo sauce til I got to bottom of its bowl(drizzled would have made it better). They gave me complementary salad when asked for my pork belly or bacon mushroom sandwich canserved on lettuce instead of gluten/bread. It was overdrenched in dressing, and management comped it. Overall flavors were good, seasoning fairly balanced; however I had to wait long to get their attention for my beverage and refills. Pork belly was unexpectedly more ham than what gastronomy considers bacon or belly. Portions were good and filling. Bar closest to elevator wasn't as busy so my glass could've been filled. Service needs some improvement. Thanks to the only manager on duty to show up just as I was about to text him. Club security staff was accommodating and helpful. It wasn't as fantastic as it can be.
Really enjoyed dining at Lost Society for a friend's birthday who was visiting from out-of-town. This was my first time for dinner, and enjoyed the dining level floor (as I had only been to the rooftop before for drinks and brunch). We had drinks that were very well made, loved the ambiance and couch like seating at our dining table for 6, and had exceptional service from our waiter, Reese. Not to mention, it was nice to have the manager check up on our experience (that's rare to see these days). I loved the broiled oysters, stuffed lobster, and the mac and cheese. Everything was incredibly yummy and I would definitely return.
We were completely taken off guard by Lost Society. Yes, it is on the second and third floors of a converted building, but oh so worth the climb. Everyone was very friendly, even the diners, with each other. Beautiful vibrant views of the U Street bustle and there aren't enough superlatives to describe the appetizers, especially the Blistered Shishito Pepper with an amazing lemon aioli sauce and mushrooms that just wouldn't quit being delicious and I've heard from others about the Caesar Brussel Sprouts and can't wait to try them next. Our waitress was warm and very helpful and we actually got a complimentary bottle of our choice of wines from a decent short list, for dinner. And dinner was an even bigger and better surprise because we were so happy and full from appetizers, we thought there would be no way we could do justice to the dinner about to arrive. But the excellence of food prep made it impossible to put down our forks, plus another delicious version of brussel sprouts, crispy hot with specks of savory ham, served as the bed for our perfectly prepared beef.
Since our visit was an overdue meeting of close work friends, when we saw each other the next morning, we both lamented how we wished we could have gone back to Lost Society for breakfast because the food was just that memorable, trimmed so nicely with wait staff and pleasant surrounding diners.
I had made a reservation with plenty of time ahead for yesterday night at Lost Society. I learned about the protest a few days before that, but since I received a confirmation email from YOU yesterday morning, I assumed the restaurant WOULD BE OPEN. Of course, we got there, and it wasn't. This was very upsetting, since I believe you (Open Table) should have informed us about the possibility of the restaurant (ANY restaurant, actually) being closed. It could have been as easy as sending a general email suggesting to everyone who had reservations yesterday to double check with the restaurant directly. I'm sure I was just one of many who had this very frustrating situation and wasted their time going all the way there for nothing.
This was a great little find on a night when so many other places were completely booked for the Valentines Day weekend! I liked the fact that the DJ/Dance Bar was on a different floor and you couldn't hear the noise, so it's really the best of both worlds...romantic dinner and dancing after. : )
Great street view, nice environment, menu is creative and tasty. The service was really good, and they work as a team, so you always have someone who can help you at any point. I was very impressed with the food it was complex with fun flavors that explode on your mouth. I would definitely go back to this place.
The ambiance was chill and adult. The food selection was creative, but the flavors were lacking in the ceviche. It was so overwhelmingly acidic or vinegary that we could not eat it. So, that was a wasted $13. I would come here to drink the El Diablo and other creative cocktails for sure.
Food was excellent. I ordered beef tips with faro, mushrooms and cilantro. The combination of ingredients was an inspired piece of culinary artwork. The mix of flavors and texture was stunning. My wife ordered the filet mignon with fingerling potatoes. Cooked perfectly as ordered. The filet was among the tastiest I've ever had.
We ordered a slice of key lime pie. It was so good. The perfect lime tanginess and a perfect graham cracker crust.
Our server Reese was great. He brought drink re-fills automatically. He knew the menu and was enthusiastic.
The booth table was simply the best thing ever. Second only to the wonderful service we received from our server. We weren't thrilled about the menu selections (maybe it was the late night menu) but everything we had was pretty good. The mac and cheese is a must try.
