I was visiting from Los Angeles, and this was my second visit to Los Caracoles and Barcelona in general. The food there is fantastic, hence the second visit. However, this time around, most of the food arrived at the table lukewarm, some even seemed to be at room temperature, and that took a lot out of the experience. We expect to be served hot plates, especially given the restaurant’s long-time reputation. The service was wonderful and still an overall good dining experience.
Great place: real traditional Spanish food of high quality
Wew returned after 37 years for a very delightful dinner with close friends. As delicious as we remember. Of course we orders their special caricoles as well as many other dishes. Service was very friendly and delightful. A fun place for family-style shared plates
We have been on four previous occasions and really enjoyed it but our meal was cold when it came. It was a bit disappointing
Always a great experience. Collectively we had snails, shrimp, rabbit and Monk fish all to rave reviews
Great food and fun atmosphere, highly recommend if you are visiting Barcelona
This is a great find, historic restaurant and quirky old building. Many interesting dining spaces (kitchen, balcony, upstairs), old photos and antiques everywhere. Some of the food was fantastic, like the strawberry gazpacho with shrimp, and the grilled seafood platter! Others were very good, like the burrata salad and paella. Honestly the only issue was the very slow wait staff. We had to call random waiters over to ask for bread, drink’s, coffee. Although they were polite, we were frustrated enough to leave without dessert... Worth going for the food, but plan for a long night!
Perfect place to experience local Catalan food. Excellent service and ambiance. They serenaded my fiancée with guitars and birthday cake which was really special. Highly recommend Los Caracoles. Which means The Snails. I gave the snails and rabbit a miss mind you.
Been here several times during visits to Barcelona and love bringing friends and work colleagues for their first Caracoles experience. 100% recommended and look forward to the next visit.
We made reservations, although it didn't seem to matter, as well ins were seated before us. The food was just ok. Our server was nice, but rushed. In all, too big to deliver a great meal.
Great experience- the pictures on the wall make an entertaining experience
Amazing taste to combine with history
This is my regular place
Buen lugar, clásico, servicio muy bueno. Caracoles y pollo muy bien, platillos abundantes
Wonderful place! Service was exceptional! Great decor with “Los Caracoles” ( The Snails ) theme throughout. Food was delicious. The caracoles were in a tasty savory sauce and were cooked perfectly.
We had seafood paella that was perfectly prepared. The garlic chicken is a fabulous choice. The creme brûlée and lemon sorbet completed a delightful eating experience!
We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of two friends; both giving it high marks. We ordered the snails as an appetizer which was a huge plate and would highly recommend as a main course. There were easily 30 snails on the plate and they were delicious in a sort of brown gravy which sopped up with the bread (that they charge you for even if you don’t ask for it) was wonderful.
The downside was the paella. Now granted this was our first time trying paella made without the shells and it definitely was not a good taste left in our mouths. It was an overly dry, fishy taste without the signature prawns that come on each pan of paella. The calamari was over cooked and the shrimp was also over cooked so we picked out the edible parts and left the rest there, not even bothering to take it to go.
I’d recommend the snails and a salad to split but skip the paella without shells. Perhaps the paella cooked with shells would have been different but all I can give you is my experience.
The ambiance was very authentic and rustic but the food wasn’t very good and the waiter was pushy; even so far as telling us the tip wasn’t included at the end. I understand it is the busy tourist season but we found him annoying. The salads were good but the pollastre a l’ast was too salty and very dried out. Overall I would say it is a cool space to be in but I live in Catalonia and have had much better food so I wouldn’t suggest this to friends visiting.
Un poco más de limpieza en general
Overall ambience wins you over. It’s such a hidden gem! No complaints about the food, it just didn’t blow me away.
This is one of those places you must experience at least once! We first stumbled upon Los Caracoles 28 years ago, and were excited to return. It’s a classic with good reason - the food is good, excellent service, and an amazing, historic space.
Food was fine. However, the menu claimed that all prices include tax, but in the bill they added tax on top of that.
It was nice to eat at a restaurant I ate at 42 years ago, and find it essentially unchanged. Quirky decor, local charm, good food and service. I was not disappointed
I've eaten at Los Caracoles several times in the distant past (20+ years ago), and didn't know what to expect. I couldn't have been happier. Everything about it exceeded both my expectations and my memories. Worth going to just for the amazing snails, but don't stop there...every dish was superb!!!
Always great food and good service, lively place but you can have a normal conversation without shouting, all dishes were fab and didn’t have to wait too long
Delicious gazpacho, snails, and bouillabaisse. Flan and crema Catalan for dessert were fabulous. Service was exceptional , and musical entertainment topped off a lovely evening.
Fabulous restaurant in the gothic quarter of Barcelona. We had the snails as an appetizer and the roast chicken for our entrees. Both were exquisite and highly recommended. Seriously, probably the best roast chicken I’ve ever had. Great food with a fine dining ambiance.
Food was very good... especially the ham, clams/artichokes and fried squid for appetizers. Best entree at table was the black paella.
Servers were friendly, informative and shared a good sense of humor with our party.
Charming restaurant with authentic food in old part of city!
Excelente paella. Un lugar clasico en Barcelona al que vale la pena ir. Super recomendado
We visited Barcelona for a week and ate at numerous restaurants in the evening for dinner. Since this was a once in a lifetime trip, we tried to eat at “upscale” restaurants that would offer traditional Spanish food, even if it was pricier than other options. After some research and looking at ratings we decided on Los Caracoles (which got 4+ stars online). We arrived 25 minutes before our reservation at 7:30 and were seated immediately but had to wait about 15minutes for bread and water, and about 20+ for a very hurried and rushed waiter to take our order. The waiter was very good and knowledgeable about food allergies! The food came promptly. We ordered the 1kg steak, lobster paella, fried calamari/squid, and other seafood dishes. After eating at several other restaurants in Barcelona that week, this was by far the WORST. The lobster shell in the paella was soft and mushy (I could break open the shell with bare hands) and the meat was brown, mushy, and soggy. The shrimp were similarly soggy and mushy. The fried calamari were similar to fried frozen calamari you could get from the grocery store. The steak was a grease pit and came out medium rare when it was ordered medium well. During dinner we noticed that the diners were primarily American/tourists. We felt bad that they had been trapped into a similar dining experience.
Did not honor open table reservation. Was a complete waste and ended up sitting at the bar for an hour until they sat us. There were plenty of available tables. I think they just didn’t like Americans. It was really frustrating that they were sitting people without reservations before us even though they had arrived after us. They should not be on open table as they do not honor reservations.
Sehr authentisches, spanisches Restaurant in super Ambiente und lebhaftem auftreten
Very accommodating staff.
We would have loved this place rather than like if the wait staff didn't hit us up for a tip then complained at the amount. The food was very good. The service professional (exception mentioned), the food delicious. The prices were fair for the quality and quantity. The decor is homey and comfortable. A plus is that they're open all day if you're not into eating a later dinner. I'd recommend, just ignore the cash call.
They made us pay 3 pieces of bread, that we didn’t even eat
They seated us near the toilets
We had a private room which was probably as good as any dining experience could get. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, fantastic service. The Sangria was also a highlight.
Service was bad, food subpar and expensive for nothing
We had dinner at Los Caracoles on the 31st of December with a group of friends and left the place extremely happy!
Excellent service, good traditional food, decent wines and lovely decor.
