About
Jorge, owner of the iconic Peruvian restaurant, Los Balcones in Hollywood and Ricardo 'the godfather of Peruvian cuisine' both wanted to explore Mestizo cuisine and put a spotlight on Spanish and Peruvian flavors. Both being from Peru, Los Balcones in Studio City is extremely personal and highlights the several ingredients they both grew up surrounded by and enjoying every day.
With signature dishes such as their Seco de Pato, Quinotto and Costilla Short Ribs, Jorge and Ricardo want guests to explore the flavors of Mestizo cuisine together.
Delicious food that's different and much more subtle than other Peruvian restaurants. Highly recommend. Great service and decor as well.
Dining at Los Balcones is a wonderful experience. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, and the service is courteous and attentive.
We had an enjoyable dinner here for the four of us. I particularly enjoyed the short ribs and the tres leches cake. Our server was fine and gave us excellent service. This is a great restaurant for a casual dinner or a celebration.
Food was fine but terribly slow service...had to find our server a number of times for water refills, orders, etc. even as the restaurant wasn’t busy. Table next to us got there later and finished earlier with more people in their party...won’t be back as this is the second time we’ve had an experience like this.
Food was not as good as the first time we came in. Short ribs were not good quality meat. Otherwise fine.
Truly a great meal! My wife loved her Cosmo for starters.
Crispy Bream with lentils was terrific. The only problem was we only ordered one to share. We were fighting each other for the last bite!!!!
Great food and creative menu. God for sharing dishes Service top notch.
There was only one person serving. He was very busy, but very gracious. The music was too loud and he did not have access to the office to turn it down.
Cozy fantastic presentation ...fantastic unexpected tastes!
Great Peruvian food.
Food here is delicious and they have a wonderful happy hour where you can get a really great cocktail and two appetizers for $19.
Wonderful place. Great food. Staff very accommodating to my special needs son in a wheelchair.
Great food
Absolutely delightful. They love their food and so do we!
It’s difficult to rate this experience or even make sense of it really. I had a 9:45 reservation, valentines dinner with my date. We walk in, the host says, reservations? I said yes Griffith 9:45, he didn’t hear so I repeated. He scrolled through what seemed like pages on his iPad. So I repeated again. Then he looked at us and said, go ahead and have a drink at the bar and we’ll seat you. Mind you, the restaurant is half full at this point. So we go sit at the bar, and wait, and wait. Finally the bartender comes over and says, we’re you waiting for a table? We kind of chuckled at how ridiculous the question was. He made our drinks, we drank them. And waited some more,,we were finally seated but This experience ruined our night. Our waiter was the one that took the brunt of my mood and he dealt with the situation the best he could. So, whoever the host is, he’s not representing this restaurant well and is making the wait staff suffer in turn. If I rubbed the host the wrong way, he should still be a professional. It was Valentine’s Day, not make the restaurant host happy day. I won’t go back there only for this reason. This host.
First time writing a bad restaurant review but here this goes:
I dined here on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend and was looking forward to this experience as the Hollywood location is pretty well known.
The ambience and set up of the restaurant is quite nice and the decor is great but the amount of bad things that occurred ruined the whole experience.
We had a reservation at 9:15 but were not seated until 9:45 even though there were visibly open tables. The couple sitting next to us had been waiting since 8:15 to be seated. We were asked to wait at the bar and even the bartender seemed annoyed that we were waiting so long.
It appears as though there was only 1 waiter and 1 bus boy servicing the whole restaurant.
My boyfriend went to the bathroom which is across from the kitchen and told me that he could hear the chefs screaming from inside the kitchen. I thought he was being sarcastic until I heard this myself, multiple times throughout our dinner. I'm not sure exactly what was going on but we could hear screaming coming from the kitchen throughout our dinner.
We ordered the prime rib special for the night and our waiter didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked. When we were served the meal, the steak was so undercooked at the ends that it was not edible. The entire dish tasted like charcoal and gasoline and was not appetizing. This dish cost $54.
Our bus boy would clear the table after each dish we ate but wouldn't bring back silverware so I had to ask for a new fork at least 4 times.
Things got even weirder when we noticed there was a little boy and girl going in and out of the kitchen throughout the dinner service. No idea whose kids these were but from a customer experience you don't want to see children entering in and out of the kitchen where your food is being cooked.
Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. This place has potential but the management needs serious help and the servers need training. I would not return.
First time there. Let me just say that you always want that place where you want to know the people that work there. You want to know them because of the service they provide and the quality of product they produce. Los Balcones is such a place. The atmosphere was exceptional, the service delightful warm and inviting and yes the food was delicious and presented extremely well. My only negative would be the margaritas were the best my wife and I have ever had and you just got to stop yourself of over indulging. After one visit, this is our go to place.
The food was excellent, though value for the money could be debated. Ran us about $60/ person without wine. They are under staffed. Speaking thereof, the employee health benefit surcharge while not much, should, in our opinion just be folded into the menu prices.
We had some problems with the check amount that was pleasantly corrected after the 3rd try, to be sure caused by the staff overloaded. We thought there were only 2 wait staff and one bus, that is much too little for a weekend night.
Yes we would go back, but for lunch.
Not to be missed by rational adults.
When we book the reservation, Open Table said there was an offer for our reservation time consisting of 3 items for $19, but the restaurant didn't honor this. I informed the waitress that was offered when I booked the restaurant and she said, "we aren't doing that today". Food was pretty good, but I was expecting it to be more flavorful, especially for the price. Nice atmosphere.
It was a wonderful dining experience ! We asked Thomas to choose some of his top picks and the food was outstanding ! From appetizers to dessert ! Will definitely recommend
I went with a friend and we shared several dishes. Each was something we had never tasted before and we were amazed at how good everything was. Our server was very friendly and helpful so that we were able to choose a representative sampling of their food. Also tried a spicy cocktail that was delicious. We both can’t wait to go back.
They say they are vegetarian friendly on their yelp page, but they have very few veggie options. Plus, yelp photos show a vegetarian or vegan menu that they do not have anymore. The portion sizes were very small but quite expensive. One server was nice, a little too talkative, but fine. The other was very brusque and rude, and put plates down with a big clatter. Not professional at all. They also charged $8 for a small plate of bread with 2 pieces of bread on it. The gnocchi was good, perhaps a B+, but that's the only good thing we could say about the experience when we walked out.
I'm thoroughly disappointed with this restaurant. I found it through DineLA and decided to give it a try. They made us wait for one hour, despite having a reservation. I love peruvian food, but the flavors in our dishes were basic. Even the Lomo Saltado needed salt and pepper... I ended up spending over $200 and left feeling unfulfilled.
Great food, remind us of Peru which we loved. I highly recommend for anyone who loves a vibrant and fun night out. Very reasonably priced
Overall food was great. Definitely a great DineLA value
I enjoyed my evening at Los Balcones very much. The food and service was wonderful. A true adventure in eating. Our waiter could not have been nicer and very helpful, as it was my first time to try Peruvian food.
Me and my friends will be going back.
Thank you
Beverly
Awesome atmosphere, small portions but delicious food, cocktails were amazing.
Server was great, made a couple of wine recommendations that were top notch. Food was delicious, but it did take a long time, probably since they were pretty bushed. Overall, would go back for another occasion other than DineLA.
Outstanding tasty Peruvian food. Highly recommended
DineLA and Westways magazine
We were so disappointed when we dined at Los Balcones on January 18. I made a reservation a week in advance for 7pm reservation for 4 people but NOT for restaurant week. We were bringing WLA guests to experience LB as we had enjoyed it several times prior. Unfortunately they "over-booked" and allowed walk-ins due to Restaurant Week! We had to wait 45 minutes for our table as it was SO crowded! Our waiter F was very harassed and abrupt and kept pushing us to order and became impatient when we were deciding. In addition to being very noisy, it was not a relaxed dining experience for us or our friends who said they would not return. As we are neighborhood residents, we were so happy to have Zarate open his restaurant in Studio City as we have loved his other restaurants, including Rosaline, but this was not what we expected! I understand that they want to encourage more diners but not to the detriment of diners who make reservations and have dined previously!
Not an experience I recommend to you. Service was the worst - servers did not like that we asked too many questions on the menu. Food was not worth the high price.
Had dinner on Saturday night- LA week prix fixe menu. Very nice interior. Very good service. Pleasant background music, not annoying or loud.
Food was very good. 3 course dinner. However , the amuse buche is normally not considered a course. It was very tasty but tiny.
Drinks are OK, on the expensive side- Pisco sour pour was relatively small for $15.00.
And the bread, while very tasty both the Quinoa bread and the butter, at $8.00 for a cut in half sliced bun is a tad high.
Great. They were slammed for DineLA but the food was great and servers very friendly and helpful.
The food was absolutely the best Peruvian I have ever had, even in Peru. It is a creative explosion of flavors.
Excellent everything food staff and ambience!! Loved it
The food was unique, special, and delicious. The space is charming.
Really nice staff, delicious food, nice ambiance. definitely will be going back
Fresh ingredients, great flavor, good service, great wine.
