The menu is challenging and limited so you try things that have ingredients you might not know. The good news is the food is delicious but menu needs more choices - salads for instance.
Waiter was terrific. Food a bit slow but it was busy.
It is pricey, which combined with limited choices, can hurt in the long run.
We ordered bread for the table that claimed to come with prosciutto, burrata, olives etc. it was $22 so we thought it would feed 4 of us. It was tiny!!! Either change the price or make the portion worthy of the price tag.
It’s a neighborhood restaurant and I hope they make some changes so it lasts.
What a lovely experience. Food, service and ambiance are all good. It's great to have someplace new and good in our neighborhood. Now, Los Balcones, please change up the menu from time to time so we can go more often!
This restaurant is consistent in the food and service. A good amount options for vegans and acommodating waiters for menus options. We have brought friends and family to enjoy this restaurant and they are all impressed
Reserved for outdoors but Sean called me to say it’s raining but I could reserve at the bar. Ok when we three arrived we were greeted by the hostess who said if we don’t mind waiting for about 5 minutes there would be a table. We won the prize booth in the corner. The place is lively, food was pricey but quite delicious with fabulous cocktails and good wines. I’ll definitely go back. Duck two ways, delicious and unusual ceviche , pasta w truffles, all served w delicious light preparations of fennel And or other lovely things. Desserts; we shared two were a wonderful finale plus a hug from Sean upon leaving. Gerisol was wonderful and so is Balcones .
They sat us 30 minutes after our reservation time. It took them 45 minutes to bring the wine glasses for the bottle of wine we brought after asking three different employees. The service was extremely slow the food was VERY overpriced. It was my birthday dinner and I wish I would’ve gone anywhere else. For these prices I could’ve dined anywhere in Beverly Hills or the west side with far superior service and food quality. This place is an absolute rip off! The employees are nice enough however they lack proper coverage or management. What a disappointment! I will never come back here again.
First time trying Los Balcones - it was great, amazing food and service - will certainly be coming again
Absolutely wonderful restaurant new to Studio City. I have been here four times now and it was superb each time. Very inspired menu which updates regularly. Service is excellent as is the ambiance. Menu has Peruvian influences and the tastes are unlike anything you have tried before. Highly recommended!
Our waiter was THEEE best! I didn’t catch his name but he definitely knew every answer to our questions. He made it that much better. Food was 8/10, considering I thought this place was the same as the original one in Hollywood. Turns out to be completely different it’s just the same name. Over all we enjoy the food, customer service was a 10. I will be returning. Thanks u Los Balcones!
What impressed me the most was that the hostess had read my notes since this was a very special occasion for me and my wife.
Table location is an importance for me
The food was fantastic not very many options on the menu but Peruvian food is one of our favorites.
The ceviche was great
The only thing and again it is me the lomo saltado was not well done cooked.
My experience with lomo saltado always has been well done steaks.
ONe of the best meals I have had in a long time...service was wonderful, and I do not have a complaint....
Great food. Fun with friends since plates are served to be shared. Fun atmosphere. The margaritas were fantastic. We look forward to going back.
We had so much fun! Great food and drinks and excellent service! Can’t wait to go back!
We had the loveliest dinner here. The food was amazing! The quinotto was my favorite. The service was really special. The staff here really sets it at a level above. We will be back!
Incredible food and incredible service! Can’t wait to go back again soon!
Loved it! Love the Hollywood one too. They are totally different however. Glad to see the space so alive and full of happy eaters.
Amazing food, with possibly even better service. The restaurant is super cute, and the entire staff is excellent. I loved the food, sort of a modern twist on Peruvian fusion. Will definitely be back soon.
Loved the original location in Hollywood and was thrilled with this location. Had four dishes and two different cocktails with my girlfriend. Had notes on all four dishes that we passed along to the waiter who passed it along to the Chef. Looking forward to seeing this place succeed. A lot of potential and it’s already really good.
Small portions, overpriced, too loud, mediocre food, random service charge?
This place rocks! They've kept the cool interior of Girasol, and yet it seems friendlier, hipper, and well matched with the creative menu. The only thing they seem to have replaced decor-wise are the chairs, which are way more comfortable. The menu is expanded from the Hollywood Los Balcones, and varied with french influence. Cocktails are wonderful and well balanced. Octopus salad was the best ever. Ceviche frito is terrific texture and flavor! The duck prepared two ways is not to be missed. Cooked perfectly! Hope they're there for years so we can bring out of town visitors to try it. Hope to try everything on the menu!
Small portions. Food was good but the selection was scarce to say the least.
Great Peruvian fusion food. High quality and unique meld of flavors and textures. Definitely a gem in the Valley.
Delicious food, great service and beautiful restaurant. Welcome to Studio City! We will be back.
Great place. Still has growing pains (only open 10 days when we went), but the food is fantastic and Ross, our server, is exceptional.
My husband and I wanted a quiet NYE dinner close to home. We’re so fortunate to have Los Balcones within a short walk of our house. My husband had the seabass and I had the tuna salad. We easily polished it off and shared an apple pie for dessert. Portion sizes and prices are just right here. We left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Perfect!
Small but tasty menu, very helpful and knowledgeable waiters.
Excellent food. Great service.
Such disappointment after all the hype. Pretention galore, but not much more. Our nearly obsequious waiter effused about the science in the kitchen to create perfectly balanced dishes. No substitutions, of course. "Everything is perfect, just the way it is. Any change and they would be imbalanced." One after the other, each dish we had was salty or vinegarie, nothing in balance. Our French-accented waiter leaned over each table so that his buttocks were in the face of the diners at adjacent tables (and what's with the suspenders clipped to his jeans pockets?). That, too, was unpleasant. And the noise level was defeaning. None of the upscale ambience of Girasol remains despite Los Balcones' retention of the interior design and tables. We miss Girasol but will not miss Los Balcones once it shutters.
It's unfortunate that this new Los Balcones uses the name if it's Hollywood parent, which is humbler and offers delicious Peruvian "comfort" food. There is no resemblance. The Valley needs more GOOD upscale restaurants. This is not one of them.
Awesome customer service. Food was delicious.
The food is really good and very inventive/different. The food highlights were the grilled octopus, roast duck and ceviche (not typical). Craft cocktails were also great.
Newly opened restaurant was stressed being so busy Friday night, so service was very helpful and friendly, but a bit slow. I’m sure this will get resolved.
Watch for your knees on the bruise inducing metal twig legs on the tables, very poor design. Otherwise the space is beautiful and comfortable.
A bit pricey but worth it.
This was a very disappointing experience for many reasons but I will summarize:
- Food tasted great but portions were TINY and prices were high.
- We were told by the server it was family style and each dish would serve 2-3 people. In reality the portions weren't even enough for one person. ie. the Russian salad shared between 3 people was 1x new potato each, 1 &1/2 asparagus sprigs and 1/3 of an egg - totally ridiculous.
- In the end we ordered a dish each 2x rissoto, 1x salad & 1x pasta and ended up leaving hungry and having to go to another restaurant to top up! not what you expect for a bill of $140.
- Service wasn't awful but it wasn't good. the girl who served us was fine but everyone else that interacted with us didn't seem to care or know what they were doing.
- It was obvious that the restaurant was new and many of the staff were not experienced. Despite booking a week in advance & calling an hour before to confirm there was no table ready for us when we got there, and there was lots of discussion and confusion about where to put us. Eventually we were seated right by the door and reception.
- A heavy wooden screen fell down and narrowly missed hitting me which was quite a shock! A member of staff ( possibly the owner) saw it happen & just picked and put it back in the same place ( to fall again presumably). An inch closer and i would have got a concussion - and I didn't even receive a 'oops sorry about that'.
- The guy who was collecting the drinks kept coming around picking up our beer bottles and shaking them before putting them back down on the table for us to finish drinking them, it was rather rude and happened multiple times.
Disclaimer : I am British so I am used to small portions so believe me when I tell you these were so small it was almost comical. And also being British if I am willing to complain you know it must be bad! At no point did someone ask us how our experience was otherwise I would have told them there and then.
There were four of us so, we tried a lot of different dishes. Everything was delicious and plated very attractively. The bread course was two small, pre sliced loaves (potato bread, I believe) with several spreads, all of which were quite good, the octopus was the best I have ever tasted, the six hour short ribs were outstanding and the duck was melt in your mouth good. Our server, Thomas, was terrific. Not only did he take excellent care of us, but, he explained all of the dishes to us and was quite knowledgeable about wine, as well. An all together wonderful evening. If you are a foodie, you have to try this place.
We love the Los Balcones in Hollywood and was expecting something similar in the new Studio City restaurant. Unfortunately we were wrong. The menu is too limited. The food was good, but it was if the chef was trying to hard. In addition, apparently the chef is something of a prima donna and generally will not make modifications to an order. We were lucky to get him to put the cheese on the side on one of the dishes.
As it is, this is a restaurant you would go to once, as opposed to Hollywood where you look forward to returning.
Great food and service but too loud.
Charge for bread was $34! $22 for the bread plate and $12 for more bread.
Over priced! Very disappointed with Peruvian ceviche!
The Pato plate very tasty, the duck juicy and meaty with the pallares.
Service exceptional food good. Noise level untenable. Apparently no way to turn it down. At least that was what we were told.......
“OUR COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF”...
BRAVO!! Studio City has a really great porchetta, duck & lomo saltado. I would without hesitation recommend this marvelous epicurean gem. The wine list is very special. The Peruvian beers are a must-try. The cocktails are fresh & prepared with style.
This place is a foodie’s delight. I cannot wait to come back. The restaurant offers indoor & patio seating. The tables around the immediate bar area can get a little loud. For more intimate dining there are plenty of options. I love this place!
