Los Balcones Hollywood
We all liked our entrees. My Pollada was a particularly good grilled/ roasted chicken, very moist and cooked to perfection served with chimmichurri and another delicious sauce. The service was very friendly and the ambiance quite enjoyable.
Took one hour for our food to arrive. Loud dining area so be prepared to yell if you want to carry out conversation.
Food was not bad and ambiance was ok apart from the loud music. Service inattentive; I think they forgot our order which explained long wait for our food.
The food was cold and not fresh, definitely reheated.
I would recommend this restaurant for stopping in and having a cocktail and a few small plates. My wife and I stopped and had a few drinks, appetizers, a main course and the bill was close to $170.00. The appetizers were good but the main dishes were severely overpriced. $25.00 for Mushroom Tallarines (Noodles) was a bit much and not worth the price. This restaurant has potential but I am not sure I would go back. I would recommend to a friend that wants a tasty drink and a small plate, but not really to take a group of people, a first date or anything more than a few friends hanging out.
Very tasty. Grilled pulpo was really tender, the fried brussel sprouts were delicious, and the paella-like dishes were nice with large amounts of seafood.
A nice Peruvian restaurant in the heart of Hollywood, Los Balcones boasts a sizable drink menu, nice ambiance, and a menu full of Peruvian staples. Unfortunately, this comes at a cost (literally). While good, the food was not blowing me away, and definitely was not worth the high prices charged ($25 for lomo saltado--a fairly simple stir fry dish with fried potatoes). Would only recommend if ok with spending a lot of money.
This is a Peruvian restaurant, and the food is very good and reasonably authentic. And the Pisco Sours are terrific!
Great place, great decor, great food, but for the price they are charging for food and drinks, they are in need of more staff. The hostess was also our waiter and bartender; true story. It made for slow service.
Fantastic service, food, and cocktail list. Will definitely be back soon. Another great new restaurant in studio city.
The salt in the food was a bit overpowering. The octopus was not tender and difficult to cut.
Great restaurant with great food. Service was a bit scarce, maybe because we were in the corner. Food took a very long time, like 40 minutes, probably because we were at the very beginning of the dinner rush. Unfortunately we were heading to a movie. So it only gave us about 10 minutes to scarf down our food.
Los Balcones is a terrific establishment where the food is fantastic. We were there on a night where the joint attached to the restaurant had live jazz, so it was lively and had a great vibe. Highly recommend!
Went for a lunch. Nothing spectacular, menu-wise or service-wise. It was OK, perhaps a bit pricey for the experience.
Great food, great service
Service was rough, had to get up to ask for water and our check and waited 20 min to get our order taken after getting our initial beverages
Went to Los Balcones after the show at the Pantages. Perfect 10 minute walk and we arrived early so no problem getting a table. The staff is wonderful, full of smiles and eager to suggest drinks and food to try out. I loved the Rosa de Coco and my husband had his favorite, the Chicha morada.
The food was delicious. We really enjoyed the octopus and ravioli. Had to throw in a little CHAUFA DE MARISCOS which was so yummy, we brought some home for good measure. Room for desserts, couldn't decide so we made a tasting plate and tried donuts, ice cream and cannoli. A perfect evening after a wonderful show. Good thing we had to walk back to the car on a full belly! We will be back.
Came here for a business meal. We ordered a couple of plates of ceviche and octopus for the group. I had the arroz con mariscos, which was tasty. There was a an issue with the the timing of the food, but the staff was very apologetic and offered desert, which was appreciated. I would recommend this restaurant and would be willing to go back. Everything tasted fresh and the flavors were great. It was a hit with the group.
Drew's (occupation: writer/performer, sign: Aquarius/Pieces) review --
In 1981's seminal work of independent cinema "My Dinner With Andre" beloved character actor and socialist playwright Wallace Shawn quips "We're just going around all day like unconscious machines, and meanwhile there's all this rage and worry and uneasiness just building up and building up inside us". If we accept this as true, then I may posit that an antidote to walking around like unconscious machines is a dinner at Los Balcones del Peru. Nestled in the concrete urban sprawl of Sunset and Vine is a hidden gem that transports you to Lima, Peru. Yes, we eat with our mouths, but, and I believe I'm the first person to ever make this point, we also eat with our other senses: sight, smell, ears, and so forth. Much like a properly tuned cello played by Yo Yo Ma in the hallowed halls of the world renounced Vienna Muskiverein, Los Balcones del Peru strikes the *perfect note* between a hip night on the town and a meal that satisfies your hunger as well as your soul. I will certainly tell my friends about my special little gem in the heart of Hollywood.

Not loving the new menu. I normally appreciate a simplified menu but this felt a bit too condensed. Please bring back the Chicharrón at the very least. Wonderful staff, great cocktails, and great ambiance still!
I love this place. My sister and I said if we were visiting Hollywood and fell into this place we’d be so happy. Truly authentic and delicious Peruvian food and don’t get me started on the Pisco Sours!
I usually have lamb shank but had short rib yesterday and my usual ceviche mixto. Dreamy!
Great place and great service.
Let me preface this by saying that we have been eating at this restaurant for a long long time and it's always been great so I would have answered "maybe" to the question of recommending to a friend but my only choices are "yes" or "no."
Anyway, as I said we've been going to Los Balcones for almost a decade. Before the remodel. Before the full bar. Before the name change. It has been one of our favorite places to go for years. I don't know if they had a change in management or in the kitchen (or both) or maybe it was just an off night, but dinner there a couple of nights ago could very well be our last.
We had reservations for 7PM and arrived at 7:05. The hostess asked if we wanted to get a drink at the bar while she got the table ready. Sure. Sounds good. Half an hour later we had to remind them we were waiting on the table we had reserved for 7PM. We ordered after being seated and because they have such great small plates my wife usually gets a couple of appetizers and I got a salad and an entree. My wife's appetizers came pretty quickly but some confusion in the kitchen left me still waiting for another 30 minutes. So now it's an hour after we arrived and we are still waiting on food. I am usually pretty patient but I told the waitress if the food wasn't ready now to just cancel the order. As luck would have it they were finally finishing them up.
That would be disappointing enough. Sadly the food was not even close to the usual standards. The ceviche which my wife has ordered and enjoyed dozens of times was just not that good. The lomo saltado I have eaten many times was noticeably different from every other time, and not just the plating, but the taste was sub par.
I know this is a bad review and I am sorry to write it but the restaurant needs to address whatever recent changes it has made and reverse course before the ship completely sinks.
They should not take Reservations. We arrived and they sat us down only to make us get up from our table because someone else had been waiting for 45 minutes that they had forgotten about and they could not tell us when we would be seated m-the host seemed indifferent so we walked out
Had an amazing experience at los balcones with our waiter Jorge. Outstanding food quality, excellent customer service.
High quality Peruvian food. I had the duck two ways, my sister had the Dorado. I’d go there again next week if I didn’t live in Berkeley.
Menu had changed with the new chef. The food was good but noticeably less tasteful. Waiter was not very attentive after he took our order.
Wonderful Peruvian in the heart of the Hollywood. Loved it from the start, even the outside is beautiful and covered with greenery. The brussel sprout starter is great and they make a FANTASTIC PISCO SOUR. Delicious cerviche with lots of choco. I had some fantastic home made ravioli....and the classic lomo saltado. Great, vibrant place and super service. A+ MUY CHEVERE! (GREAT!)
The food is good and service adequate, but the music was too loud to enjoy a conversation. I would try again on a week night and hope for a quieter experience.
A little disappointed. We have eaten at Los Balcones before. We flew in extra for the weekend to to eat for our anniversary and my wife's birthday. My favorite is Lomo Saltado. The meat was again excellent but the tomato was on the side and almost no red onions. Very weird. And the fries on the side too? I visit Peru often and this was not the way it was served the first time I was at Los Balcones last year. My wife was also disappointed with her dish. She is Peruvian and we visit Peruvian restaurants all over the world. She had arroz con pollo. It was served with jalapenos. Jalapenos? Never in a Peruvian dish. What happened to you guys? And the service was awful. We had a young grill that just stood around at the bar and rarely even looked to see if we needed anything. Not one time did she offer to refill our water or ask if we needed more chicha morada. We have bragged about Los Balcones being one of the best Peruvian restaurants we have every eaten outside of Peru. I wish we could fly back and have the experience we had the first time.
The service and ambiance were very good but it couldn’t save how mediocre the food was. I ordered the ravioli stuffed with lamb which was very dry and had over cooked pieces of lamb in it. There was also supposed to be some ricotta in the dish but I couldn’t even find a hint of that. My husband ordered the potato stew with pork belly and we were both amazed by how over cooked the pork belly was. It was almost completely burnt throughout. My husband couldn’t believe they served that to us even making a comment that the dish was maybe something you could get away with serving to guests in your home but not at a restaurant, especially one where you are paying $25-$35 for an entree. We were really hungry so we just ate the food instead of sending it back. We left the restaurant incredibly disappointed and bummed we wasted our date night there.
This was my first visit to a restaurant I pass almost every day. My impressions pro and con: The pro is that the food is sensational. The con is that the noise level was so high we could neither talk nor communicate with our waiter unless he got down on his knees next to the table. They should cut the loud music when people's voices are enough to keep the buzz going. It was a Saturday night which may have accounted for the crowd but I would not go back unless I could sit outside on the small patio. It's too bad because there are many things on the menu I would like to try. Their brussel sprouts are amazing and the dish we had with seafood and rice was fabulous. But I was staggering from the assault on my ears when I walked out.
Delicious! The only thing I would caution is that when making the reservation on Open Table, double check that you are reserving a table in the Studio City restaurant and not the Hollywood restaurant. Mostly different menus (we much prefer the Studio City) but Open Table seems to default to the Hollywood site even when you type in Studio City. This happened to us on a busy Friday night. The hostess understood (said it was happening frequently) but she was still able to seat us at the last remaining table.
Adorable small cozy place with very tasty and unusual food. There are all kinds of new flavors to discover here. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys something a little different than what they see every day.
Dinner and a show
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely return.
The food is just so scrumptious and the drinks are spot on. Service was attentive and very welcoming of Peruvian newbies. The restaurant itself is well decorated inside too. I love this place and I don't understand why it's not always slammed.
Fantastic cocktails, great ambience, diverse clientele and food that's unique and special. Try it!
The food and drinks were inventive and very tasty, although the BBQ shrimps are a bit small. The room is very crowded (small tables very close together) and too dark. They need better lighting.
I went for Valentine’s Day It was a last minute pick but definitely worth it the Food and the ambience was great.
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday it was her time trying Peruvian food, & she loved it! The service was great! Food was delicious, we had the Brussels sprouts than a ceviche Classico and ended it with a lomo saltado!
So delicious. The music was great, & our waiter was amazing great service.
