Nice, cozy atmosphere with quality, rustic pasta dishes. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quality dining experience without lofty prices
First time buffet partakers, it was FABULOUS!!! Our family travels from Iowa to eat at Loring because we love it so.
Great food and environment! We will definitely be returning
The food at The Loring is very good. The menu items are varied and the Tuesday date night special is a good value.
We’ve been to the Loring several times. We love the live music and the food is great.
great food & music room to dance interesting atmosphere
Buffet was great! Service was poor. Refill on drinks was incredibly slow and we had to ask for refills and our bill after two hours. TV wasn’t working for the football games. Atmosphere was great!
The Moscow Mule we ordered was not to our liking, so we communicated directly to our server that the drink didn't taste right. In turn, our server told us there was nothing wrong with the drink and that this was the way the drink was supposed to taste. Our server went on to say it tasted different from other Moscow Mules because of the bitters, which is an ingredient that typically isn't found in most Moscow Mules. Not wanting to make a scene we kept the Moscow Mule and continued on with our dinner. The food was fine but this type of service had negative impact on the groups first experience with Loring Bar & Restaurant.
We greatly appreciate your feedback! Thank you for joining us that evening, and we are so sorry for the lack of candor in the service you received. We are reviewing all drink recipes with our service staff and will ensure that this type of response to our guests will not happen again.
We have been here many times, but the service fell short the last two visits. Drinks took over 15 min to receive, food came without special requests (e.g. croutons left on when gluten free person asked for salad without and reiterated at the end of their order).
Thank you for dining with us and sharing your perspective! We are so sorry to hear about the timing and detail of service you received. We will make sure to improve our services based on your feedback, and we cannot wait to provide you with a dining experience you deserve in the near future.
Under staffed. Our server was great. Need help at hostess station
Had a delightful experience for a Sunday Brunch (11/17/19) with my family. The server was very attentive and we enjoyed the ambience. Highly recommend the Sunday Brunch!
We had a large group of 19 for a special occasion. Our server Ashley did a wonderful job. She was attentive to all our needs. Drink service was spot on, from the milk for the little one to the specialty drinks for the adults. The food service was precise and everyone’s entree arrived at the same time, from pasta to seafood to steak. This was a special occasion and at the end of the evening, felt like it. Thank you to everyone!! I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion, large or small.
Great service, good food in a wonderful eclectic space. Started with potstickers and edamame and coconut shrimp, both good and generous. Grilled salmon was delicous, seafood linguine was very good, but could use some spice, chicken piccata was very good. Two desserts, tiramisu and creme brulee, the tiramisu was delicious, the creme brulee was just okay-almost too eggy. The service was out standing, we never wanted for more drinks or water, thank you Sam. Also the pacing of the food was perfect.
Love this place
Great place with a funky vibe to catch up with friends or family.
We went here for my daughter’s birthday. We chose it because she goes to the U and would be pressed for time. I think they only had one server , so it took a while for him to take our order. The wine was warm
and we are almost sure it came out of a box. Everyone enjoyed their food and they gave my daughter a free
dessert for her birthday , so that was a win. Would I go back? Only if I was down at the U to see my daughter.
Not worth the drive from the western suburbs.
We arrived at 6:30p on a Tuesday without a reservation and the hostess said we couldn’t be seated without one. What she didn’t say was that we could just step aside and make one, which we did on Opentable. Silly. There was live music and some couples dancing. Our server was sweet but very unorganized. She came back to the table about 30 minutes in asking us what we had ordered- not a good sign. Food took a very long time to arrive. Appetizer plates weren’t cleared and waters unfilled. Seafood pasta unseasoned. The space is cool, like a theater set, but otherwise disappointing this visit.
This has to be my favorite restaurant/live music venue in the Twin Cities. And the Tuesday date night food specials make it even more appealing.
Avoid tables by windows as freezing had to wear coat while dining which was uncomfortable. Tables too close together so hard to hear own conversation and had to speak loud so tables nearby heard everything. Food was average. Bar area was warm and looked nice I would eat in there next time if they serve in there.
The food is fine and the location was good for the show we were going to see. But the service was appalling. We waited 20 minutes and then had to ask the hostess for water and find our waiter. Drinks took another 15 minutes and he still didn't take the food order. We were there an hour before we had our appetizer.
Asked for a special better then average table. We believe we got one but...the duct work with a vent was directly above and was blowing cold air on us. Asked to have it turned down or off and the server said she’d take care of it. Didn’t til after we ate our much cooler food (cool because the fan was blowing cold air onto our table).
Food and service were very good.
The venue is in a great location and a very cool space. The have a nice happy hour that’s only available at the bar. The food was only OK and, though generous portions, very over prices. I wouldn’t go back.
We had a reservation and were taken upstairs to be seated on a Saturday night. Zero ambiance as we were the only table up there but one other huge group in which they had no room for on the main floor. We received all of our food but my little boys because they messed it up apparently. So when we were all done eating he received his meal.
Awesome service and food! Sunday nights for ballroom dancing is a must.
Food always good. In October, 2019 my medium rare steak was fantastic.
Used to go to this restaurant all the time in college years ago. It was always a nice experience with tasty food and great service, especially for the price.
Just went back for the first time in five years and the food was not up to the old standard and the service was slow. At a table of four, three plates came out at once and the fourth entree did not arrive for 10 minutes. The taste of the food was nothing to write home about either.
The ambience and decor was great as always, but there seems to have been a drop off in quality and menu design over the years. Very sad to see this happen as it is a great space, but I can’t justify going back anymore.
Restaurant can highly recommend as the quintessential UIMN dining experience Restaurant was not busy, but looked like maybe one server working on a Wednesday night. Foods like pastas, boneless wings, burgers. were served barely warm- as if waiting too long to be brought out to table. I guess we were expecting a little bit more. Ambiance and decor were cool, but food did not live up to most other dining experiences for pub fare type menu.
Food was very good, service was lacking.
Fun decor and great food! We had a great time after the Gopher Football game!
Interesting ambience. Food not warm enough. Service spotty and rushed.
We love this place and visit whenever we are in the Minneapolis area. We shall be back! We love the staff, food, atmosphere, the building! We do not love the parking, however.
Went on Tuesday night at 7pm. Food was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! Unfortunately have to report about the poor service. Sodas delivered without straws. Requested them. Waiter never came back with them
I had to go to the bar & retrieve our own straws. Seemingly Supervisor/ Manager/ Asst. Mgr delivered our ceasar salad, not saying ONE WORD to us and did not offer cracked pepper. My 71 year old mom got frustrated and she retrieved the pepper shaker herself from the open Chef's station and added it to our own salads. Waiter checked back once, actually delivered a soda refill promptly. Was delivered another couple's bill.
My first impression of service was poor, but willing to go back for THE AWESOME FOOD! 👍
We arrived about 30 minutes before the dining room closed. Band was still playing and the setting is very cool and romantic. Our drinks were more water than alcohol but we couldn’t catch the server’s attention to send them back. My husband liked his meal (braised pork) but I could’ve made my pasta dish (goat cheese ravioli) at home. Our waiter checked back once at the very end of the meal, by which point we had just decided to get it over with and go elsewhere for a nightcap. Too bad the food, drinks and service were so mediocre...the location, music and ambiance are wasted!
Always love the Loring ambiance and cuisine. Great live music and we had a fabulous table overlooking the restaurant! Attended a show at Varsity after.
Excellent food and service! Loved the building itself too! Will definitely be back!
Had a great time at the Loring. Dan's accordion orchestra was excellent.
We loved the atmosphere, food was delicious and presentation beautiful. They answered an email with a special request. Definitely I'll be back
We got together in a group of 9, which included 3 children age 3 and under. The waiter was great and never let drinks dry up, and as always, we were not disappointed with the food.
Food was delicious and the service was amazing. We had a big group but we were served quickly and we all loved the food. We will definitely be back.
