Service and ambiance is very good, the food felt short for me, sometimes it is better to make something regular amazing than trying to be original for the sake of it.

Celebrated a birthday at Lorea with the “kitchen counter” tasting menu. The service was kind and attentive. All the courses leading up to the mains were quite good: flavourful, creative, and well-executed. It was with the two mains that they really stumbled. The first main was a rabbit taco. The protein was confit rabbit with squash blossoms wrapped in caul fat. Despite being confit, the rabbit was dry and sawdusty. I suppose no matter how much you try to augment a lean protein with fat, it’s still a lean protein. The meat was excessively mashed and processed, almost halfway to a pâté, mushy and unpleasant in texture. Rabbit, being such a mild meat, didn’t shine through at all and was overwhelmed by the flavour of the caul fat. Honestly, they could have used chicken breast instead, and the dish would have tasted much the same. The second main was a birria made with beef short rib. We were told it had been slow-cooked for 12 hours. Well, honestly, they probably should have cooked it for less time. The meat was over-braised, leaving only stringy fibres behind. It had the texture of badly made pulled pork, but maybe even slightly worse due to the inherent toughness of beef compared to pork. It was like chewing a soaked sponge. Sure, there was moisture from the braising liquid, but the fibres themselves remained dry and tough. The flavour was nicely beefy, though, and a super delicious spicy salsa really elevated the flavour. Overall, I found the two mains a bit monotonous, given that they were both essentially stewed meat on tortilla. Speaking of tortillas, they were unimpressive throughout the meal. I appreciated that they were house-made with blue corn, but they were consistently cold and dry, almost cracking when bent. I understand they need time to plate the dishes, but by the time the food reached us, the tortillas had had gotten cold and dried out. Quite disappointing.

Es un asalto (it is an armed robbery). Comida mediocre y escasa, y carta de vinos muy limitada. Imposible regresar (won’t go back). Tuve que ir por unos tacos saliendo (left extremely hungry and went to nearest tacos). No vayan!! (do not go!).

A very well curated meal with attentive service and neutral atmosphere. We had a tasting menu of 8 courses and every single dish was outstanding. Tried to pick one that stood out the most , I couldn’t!

Phenomenal chefs counter experience. Each dish was a perfect balance of familiar and unique, and the staff takes time to explain the origins of each as well as what they did to add their own signature. Most importantly, what differentiates Lorea is the ease and accessibility of the meal. Multi-course tasting menus can often leave me feeling overstuffed and at times physically uncomfortable by the end. This one is the perfect amount — each dish is light, but complex and the perfect amount to get a complete experience. It is inventive, interesting and still feels like a warm welcoming home. I truly felt like I was sitting in one of my close friend’s kitchens. One of the best meals I’ve had in the world and I would absolutely come back again and again and again.
