L'Opera Ratings and Reviews
When I worked in Long Beach a few years ago, my wife and I would dine at L'Opera on special occasions, such as Valentines Day. We had not been there in a few years. When they announced a Veterans Day special, we thought it was time to return. The place remains an excellent restaurant. Our orders were well prepared and visual delights. We both commented that we should not have waited so long to return.
Have considered this a Long Beach gem for many decades and it was my first choice for "meals to impress". Recent visit may have been with 3rd chair chef on a Monday night--nothing that wow'd my taste buds and plated presentation was not crisp (almost "sloppy"). My cannelloni was dried out and dense--after a long wait for the arrival of the entrees did not want to send back and delay/distract the course of business conversation. Many more vegan choices than in past. Guest's lasagna was atypical--with fresh tomatoes on side & not in layers of pasta. Wine list and choices were exceptional. Continue to Love the art deco setting and corner table that impress guests as well as the Perfect ambience and cleanliness.
I made a reservation within 15 minutes of arriving at the resturant. I don't often dine alone, but the minute I walkied in, the waiter appeared and said has anyone said hello to you yet? Turned out the waiter Scott served me for dinner and offered exceptional service, plus guided me in a selection between two entres. The dinner was delicious. It isn't inexpensive, but for a special dinner or occasion I would highly recommend it. I could hear other diners raving about their choices as well.
Always our go-to restaurant for special occasions but this time it was not made as special as in the past. It may just have been a quiet Sunday evening but ‘our’ waiter in the past, John, added to the wonderful experience. John was not there that night. Maybe our expectations were simply too high.
We very much enjoyed our evening with friends. The lasagne Ragu was excellent! Super fresh ingredients made for a dish with homemade quality. The dessert made with pineapple was super yummy, and the Fresh squeezed lemon drop martinis were the icing on the cake
The dinner was fine. We expected it to be a little pricey and it was but not too bad. My wife had a glass of wine (I had a sip) that was excellent. She had the risotto and I had the veal. They were both very good. The waiter was very good. The dessert was very good. We had a nice time. But we are not part of the 1% so for us it has to be a very special occasion for us to spend this much.
L'Opera has become my "go to restaurant" whenever I am in Long Beach. This time I was there on a weekend and found out why it is named L'Opera. There was a lovely opera singer who dazzled the patrons with both classic opera and Broadway standards. The food was superb as always, but the extra effect of the opera singer made the night very special.
All in all, we enjoyed L'Opera as we always do. We generally go before the theatre downtown. On this night, our dinner came a bit late, which made us nervous, but Andrew, our server was super great and acknowledged that our main dishes took longer than they should and gave us some chocolate strawberries on the house. Even if he hadn't given us a complimentary dessert, I was just so glad that he recognized the mistake and owned it. He has all my respect. The only qualification I had with the food itself, was that my short rib ravioli tasted saltier than usual, other than that, it was good. Our salad with the apple cider dressing was phenomenal!
This is a good restaurant with very good food and service.
Long time Long Beach land mark. Great location and elegant decor. Excellent food preparation, but somewhat more traditional, of course a lot of people like that. Prices on the high side, but not extravagant. Excellent wine list and reasonable corkage fee ($15). Pine Ave is happening.
This was our 1 year and I called in before hand and pre ordered the meals (my partner is vegan I am not). Scott was simply amazing. He made a wonderful meal in to an extraordinary experience.
Far exceeding my expectations. I have been here many times but when I let them know this was a special day they really went above and beyond to make us feel special as well.
That comes from passion and joy.
We came back to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary since this was the restaurant that we held our dinner reception. The food was amazing and the service provided by our waitress Tina topped it off! We felt so special when we came in greeted by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary and she allowed us to go back downstairs to reminisce for a moment :) We plan on keeping this restaurant as a tradition for where we will celebrate our upcoming anniversaries!!
This restaurant was so good we dined there on two consecutive evenings. There is an interesting and varied menu, and the same can be said of the wine list.
Our experiences were topped off by service from Scott who made everything that little bit more enjoyable.
This resto is in the heart of downtown Long. Each and is located in a gorgeous old bank building. It's a charmer for sure and the noise level is very acceptable.
If and when our travels take us back to Long. Each we will go back to this very good restaurant.
