Originally had reservation for six, had to adjust it due to others changing plans. Hostess was kind over the phone, two of us headed to the restaurant. We knew exactly what we wanted from their amazing menu. This is why we weren't swayed by the others in our party...
This is also why we didn't walk out when the hostess was snarky in person. Checked in approximately ten minutes early and was told that we would have to wait b/c we were early. She then referenced the earlier reservation for six...this was odd b/c she was so accommodating over the phone. Table after table was seated before us, some having reservations - others not having reservations. We were seated six minutes after our original reservation at an entertaining window seat. It was over a vent which she said would keep us warm. It did not, it blew cold air on us all dinner and we shivered. Didn't want to bother the hostess b/c who knows when we would be seated again and I desperately wanted my mushroom rigatoni entree and caprese appetizer. As I mentioned the seat was entertaining b/c of the multiple emergency vehicles during our meal, drunk downtown revelers and wedding reception guests.
We knew what we wanted and ordered once the server came to our table the first of five total times. 1) she took our order 2) she delivered red wine (friend said it was fantastic). 3) she delivered entrée 4) she delivered incorrect bill and 5) she delivered correct bill.
There was no 'table touch', we had more contact w/the bussers than our server. The busser would nod and smile but continued to refer to our server whom we did not see.
Both good and bad - I really wanted their Burrata and was disappointed to not get it but the bread is AMAZING. So good, I actually took some back to the lobby of my hotel to share w/the ladies that selected another restaurant to dine! I blamed them for the poor experience we had, perhaps if the six of us had showed up as originally planned - the staff would have valued us.
I don’t get to Long Beach often, but whenever I’m there I stop into L’Opera. Our party of six had to rush a little to make a show and the server did an excellent job of accommodating us. Our food orders spanned the menu, from pastas to seafood to pork...all excellent. Sorry we couldn’t stay longer.
Great Staff ---from the receptionists to the Bartenders to the servers. All top drawer and they know their craft! Bespoke menu choices that never fail to please!
Consistently fine food and excellent service in a classy setting. You will never be disappointed
Food was awesome, service, not so much. We brought a nice bottle of wine with us. Our server asked us "Did you bring this?" in an add way. Then she assured us she'd decant it, which actually did not happen for 45 minutes, right before our dinner arrived. No one ever poured our wine for us, we poured it ourselves every time. Our salads were served to the table next to us. Server did not come to check in on us.
We had an incredible dinner to celebrate a friend birthday. The whole evening and experience was delicious.
Food is excellent and our service was absolutely amazing! They have some items that are not on the menu, I was hoping for gnocchi and didn't see it on the menu, asked our waiter and they had it, requested the creamy basil-pesto and it was incredible! Our waiter Alex had extensive knowledge of the wine list and made great recommendations to the table! I ordered an Old Fashioned from the bar and it was well made very authentic!
Dead for lunch. Food was below average. Ambiance is old and tired. Windows were so dirty that could not see outside. Waiter ruined my shirt by bringing me bleached water to take care of a stain. Did not even offer any complimentary food to compensate!
A really wonderful restaurant that is above average in every way but is more approachable than a 5 star dining experience. I wish the ambiance was a little more memorable but by no means is it bad. The serving staff is very friendly and NOT pretentious. If you do visit, ask for a seat by the windows because it's fun to people watch and the windows, which are very large, open up the feeling while dining. Great place!!!
Now my favorite Italian restaurant in Long Beach. Just the right amount of attention for fine dining in a casual and comfortable setting without being overly stuffy.
We had a business meeting at the restaurant. It was the perfect location. The service and food was excellent If you need to have a quiet conversation with a few business associates or just going for a relaxing meal. This restaurant would be perfect.
The food was excellent. Service was amazing. This is one of the best restaurants. Just loved it
One of my all time favorite restaurants since it opened! I live in Pasadena now, but totally worth the drive. I have never had a bad meal at L'Opera and continue to be impressed with both the menu and service! Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates quality food and service!
Slow start but great food made up for initial slow service
My wife and I went on New Year’s evening. It was relatively quiet. Our server was great. The restaurant was nicely decorated. I was somewhat disappointed in the food. The marinara sauce was lackluster and the pasta a bit over-cooked. The chicken parm was good. We have traveled extensively and eaten some great Italian food. This was good...not great
Walked from our Hotel and had a wonderful food and service in a restaurant with fantastic ambience, waiter couldn't have been more attentive and our food was well above average.
Ambience was great and having opera singer go around to tables was cool. Little lacking in sevice but on new years eve it was pretty busy. Food was delicious but not huge portions so I recommend an appetizer or dessert. A little pricey so I recommend coming for a special date or maybe birthday dinner. Overall would eat there again.
Went New Year's Eve so the noise level was probably higher than usual. The chef's menu was amazing. Husband ordered off the regular menu and ended up eating half of mine also (except my filet mignon, I wouldn't share). Will definitely return!
L'Opera was a delight to visit. It is a very cozy restaurant. The food was very good. The strolling opera singer was nice...not annoying or overbearing. Very classy touch. I think the only thing I would say to anyone thinking about dining here is to watch out for being seated facing the south windows toward 1st Street. You will only be watching people waiting for, getting on and off the Metrolink. It really compromised my dining experience. So make sure if the hostess is taking you that direction, either request to face inward toward the restaurant or find another cozy place somewhere else in the restaurant...just don't leave! You will enjoy L'Opera otherwise.
We had a special time at L'Opera celebrating my sister and mother's birthdays. We were pleased with the ambiance, the food, the service and the noise level. We would definitely come back! The food arrived in a timely fashion. We were there in the early afternoon and my parents thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It was festive, clean, and perfect for a celebration! My seafood pasta dish was tasty. The chocolate dessert or "Maria" was delicious. Thank You L'Opera for your great service and for making this a memorable event!
The polenta appetizer was quite nice. The main meal, Lasagna al ragu, was just so-so. Excellent service, informative waiter, friendly and knowledgeable.
The food was excellent, the ambiance very nice. A bit pricey but we had a great evening
Food was amazing and excellent wait staff. Friday - Sunday they have a performer singing opera.
I've been going to L'Opera for decades. Kinda my designated destination for my wife's b'day because it's her fav. Good memories from the past but my recent (12/24/17) experience was not up to the standard I've been accustomed to. OK food, ok service, no special attention to the details (b'day). Larger portios then last time, more expensive (it's OK) but something not-tangible was missing. I will probably come back again but I am seriously considering other options.
Been going here for years and is always a treat when friends and or family are in town. We tried one of the newer deserts on the menu “Paradiso” it was so good I would have had more but was already stuffed from our fabulous dinner.
The lamb was so tender it actually pelted in my mouth.
Staff where incredible and extremely helpful.
Love it! Will be back again and again!
We were last minute looking for something festive for Christmas Eve near the convention center post performance. They had a perfect time for us and after dining here previously I knew the food would be terrific. I was not disappointed and with the added decorations to an already lovely restaurant it felt like a very special occasion. The manager, Nicole, was another added benefit to the evening as her polite check on us was genuine and the conversation pleasantly easy. This will be a first choice again! Bravo!
This is my 3rd time at this restaurant over the past 18yrs. The first 2 were Birthday parties, so we've always had a group of 10 or more. Every time we've been, the food and service was top shelf. The pricing is a bit higher than we usually spend, but we're never disappointed.
We were a party of 7! Our waiter was non existent the first 10 t0 15 minutes after we sat down. Took forever to get water. For this caliber of restaurant waiter was simply unqualified. Food was only average especially at $25 for a bowl of pasta. Other than a festive atmosphere this restaurant is by no means more than a 2. Star.
Lovely ambiance, attentive and delightful service, and delicious flavorful food!
Everything was wonderful. Tried their plate with raw meat, something I never eat, and it was delightful. They treated my husband and I wonderfully. I appreciated the live opera.
The staff is very professional, knowledgeable & friendly. Whether you like traditional Italian meals (lasagna, veal scallopine) or prefer more creative (butternut squash ravioli, ahi mediterranea- with hummus, bread crisps & olives) the menu has a lot to offer. If you are a chocolate lover, order the Maria dessert with Gianduja chocolate.
The holiday decorations are beautiful & it is situated on a corner with glass windows so you get to enjoy the view.
Best overall restaurant in Long Beach.
Amazing shrimp cocktail, almost a meal. Lovely entree's although sauces are a bit on the heavy side. Food quality and taste was excellent. The restaurant has the feel of New York or Chicago. Located in the downtown area of Long Beach. Valet parking is available. Reservations a must.
Authentic Italian restaurant with an extensive wine list. If you order red wine, ask for one stored in the cellar. The ones in the restaurant are too warm.
Tina our server was wonderful. WOW white a glamours evening. L’Opera is our Holiday go to place.
Always my first choice when dining in Long Beach and has been for more than 20 years. I have never had a less than stellar experience there.
Service was great...good italian food...a nice time with family.
Scott never disappoints. He arranged for a special menu to celebrate our anniversary. It was amazing!
Still strong after all these years. Homemade pasta's that remind me of Italy. Beautiful space manned by very sharp staff.
Good food, good service. We’ll definately come back
Excellent service. Always delicious food, prepared in most flavorful way.
