Lonesome Dove Western Bistro Austin
We feature both classic and new tastes, with Austin-inspired dishes that showcase Chef Tim Love’s creative use of bold flavors, wild game, and signature wood-fired cooking techniques alongside a diverse wine program. The menu is divided into several sections, beginning with Love’s proprietary Wild Game Fettine. It features a selection of choice cuts spit-roasted over open mesquite fire, such as Duck, Rabbit-Rattlesnake Sausage, Pistachios, and Quince; Elk, Pork Spinalis, Huckleberries, and Black Garlic; and Lamb, Quail, Texas Herbs, and Citrus-Chili Paste.

Saturday night dinner with wife while out of town. Had to stop trying to communicate due to noise level so loud felt like we were yelling at each other. Food was adequate but not for expectation. Service was okay but not to expectation. If you want to pay a lot and get little please go.
My lovely evening started with a Willie - a smoky Manhattan that was to-die-for. The food at Lonesome Dove is always excellent. I ventured out during my most recent visit to try the pork chop and wild boar grits. Both were phenomenal. Service at lonesome Dove is always efficient and welcoming but our server, Mark, was extraordinarily informed, personable, efficient and charming. He contributed mightily to our wonderful dining experience.
Wife tried the Rainbow Trout , it was horrible and soggy covered Cayenne pepper to try and Disguise the awful taste
Every bite and every sip was the BEST thing I ever tasted! My husband and I dine out regularly and occasionally we splurge on a very expensive meal. Usually we feel the meal did not warrant the price, but this food was an exception. The tastes were interesting and the food combinations were surprising plus the presentations were beautiful. We also enjoyed the handcrafted cocktails, especially The Willie. If you are interested in a culinary journey put Lonesome Dove at the top of your list.
WE enjoyed trying some different things that we had never had before. It was fun to get the appetizers in a way for each person to try a bite. The steak was amazing and the sides were great.
Probably one of the best restaurants in Austin. The quality of the food, creativity, and preparation are outstanding. I’m sorry to be losing the restaurant to another hi-rise. If you haven’t been before, and if you have, don’t miss the chance to enjoy the best food in Austin before it’s gone.
Food was fantastic and drinks also on par!! Service was great especially with our large party!
Great staff. Great food.
Very disappointing. We booked 3-4days in advance, and in the booking text I specifically put “4 for the prime rib special”. We arrived at 12.15pm, we’re sat, served drinks, our order taken, only to be told 10-15 mins later that they’d run out of prime rib. Our waitress told us ‘they only do prime rib by reservation. (I had a reservation and we have walked in for prime rib before, so this was bogus), and the manager simply said “well we sold 95 prime rib in the first 15 mins, what can I do? You should have booked”. Very disappointing, with my CEO and a client in tow. The place was maybe at 60-70% occupancy, which it always is on a Friday. Very poor management of the business.
It was our anniversary. The staff signed a sweet card and at the end of our meal we had champagne and a tiny dessert complementary. Service was excellent, appetizers were delicious, but the main courses were quite disappointing. We probably won’t be back but it was a decent meal.
HANDS DOWN BEST EXPERIENCE - UNBELIEVABLE FOOD - if I COULD GIVE MORE STARS I WOULD - THANKS TO Y’ALL MY ANNIVERSARY WAS AMAZING!
The service is exceptional, the food is exquisite with exotic meat offerings prepared to perfection. This is one of my favorite places for a any special occasion.
We enjoyed our dinner very much and tried quite a few new things such as rattlesnake and rabbit sausage. All of the dishes were beautifully prepared, though we did find some to be a bit too spicy for our taste. They had a nice wine selection and excellent cocktails. Our server was really friendly and attentive. We will take our out of town (non-Texan) guests there again in future for a memorable experience.
I love this place in Austin's hippest downtown area. my favorite dinner for sure.
It's a nice place but at over $100 a person, it's not worth the price of admission. The food and drinks were good but not great and the portions are very small. If you're not worried about price, it's worth checking out, but there are many other places where you'll get just as good or better food and drinks for far less.
One of the best meals we ever had - thanks
Wonderful food. Just one of the best experiences.
Wonderful flavors and service.....top Austin Favorite for sure. Western Texas Authentic vibe that everybody will love. Service was flawless.
The garlic steak and pork chop were both great, as were the mushrooms and carrots. Wife’s swordfish was tasty but a tad overcooked. All in all a great experience.
We had a party of 6 for a business dinner and were able to be seated early and had an impressive array of appetizers, followed by great entrees and sides. The Austin natives had not been previously and were impressed, along with our 4 Chicago visitors. Nice live music for the evening as well.
Lonesome dove is amazing! I dined here for the first time tonight and it was far beyond my expectations! The service and food deserve 5 stars.
-fettine board which included rabbit-rattlesnake sausage, pork belly and wild boar. This was delicious!
-lobster hush puppies (amazing! So flavorful and fresh; you could taste the seafood
-elk sliders with foie Gras (this is a richer starter, but not to be missed)
-wood fired oysters (little spicy because topped with a jalapeño, but outstanding)
-bison steak (amazing, flavorful, juicy)
-garlic stuffed filet (very tender)
For sides we had the truffle Mac and cheese, burnt carrots, and French fries (all we're delicious)
Dessert: churros and chili chocolate cake -perfect ending!!
There wasn't one item on the menu that I did not like. We will definitely be back!! The service was the icing on the cake!
Fantastic food, everything was outstanding, we really enjoyed our time there.
Excellent service met by equally excellent food. My wife and I enjoyed our time immensely.
Been to the Fort Worth restaurants and this one was just as great if not better. Great food, perfect service.
The service provided by Tyson was exceptional. The rattlesnake, rabbit, fig starter was delicious
Ate here with my parents the Thursday before my wedding. The service could not be beat. The food was also fantastic. Great way to kick off a fun weekend!
Excellent meat! The service we had was just OK.
On final bill there were added costs to our appetizers. Charged us 5.00 for one hushpuppy and $5.00 for one oyster. Asked why, she replied so we could each have two. They were only three hushpuppies for 15.00 ok.... ask first maybe? Also, the entre pork chop was very dry and the "Smoked Cheddar Chorizo Gratin " was inedible. The only good part of this restaurant was the sommelier.
We chose Lonesome Dove as our Thanksgiving dinner experience this year and couldn’t be happier with that decision! From the interior design...to the food...to the service...Lonesome Dove meets all of its preceding reputation. The sommelier was outstanding suggesting a wonderful French wine that was off of our radar. The service staff was on top of everything without being intrusive. And, this being a holiday, were in AMAZINGLY good moods! The entire team deserves a huge thanks for working on such a family-focused holiday. They certainly made our family’s time better! We each chose different main courses and shared first and second courses. This turned about to be a great game plan as the meal moved smoothly and deliciously from start to finish. No doubt...Lonesome Dove is in the rotation each and every visit to Austin, TX.
Very cool place, excellent food, great drinks, and awesome service!
This is the most overrated restaurant in our fine city. The lady that handles the front door is nasty. The food is way overpriced and not that great. Restaurant is too noisy. The only thing that’s really good is the valet parking
We went on Thanksgiving. Everything was fantastic. Service was above and beyond excellent.
My family love this place! Amazing place with great food and wonderful service! Something very different and must see/eat!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Great opportunity to try different meats from rattlesnake to elk to bison. Everything cooked perfectly and the wait staff are very educated on both food and wine. Highly recommend as part of your Austin experience!
Went for my birthday dinner. It was a great environment and great tasting food.
It's been awhile since I was last there but the food is off the charts good. The elk loin is so tender and juice you can cut it with a fork, not to mention delicious. Our server was very good at suggesting food items and very attentive. It's also remarkable how fast your food gets served to you. There's no long waits in between courses too. Overall, This is a awesome place to dine and relax. Can't wait to go back again, except this time not wait so long to get back there.
We enjoyed our dining experience very much.
good place for out of town guests, its a ranch to table experience, good quality and variety of meets and options for large groups of people.
Fantastic! The whole deal - rattlesnake rabbit sausage with rosti, Texas Red chili, grilled Elk Loin, and the Willie - an oak chip smoked Manhattan with rich smoky aroma and taste. Defiantly my go to in Austin.
