Lonesome Dove Western Bistro Austin
We feature both classic and new tastes, with Austin-inspired dishes that showcase Chef Tim Love’s creative use of bold flavors, wild game, and signature wood-fired cooking techniques alongside a diverse wine program. The menu is divided into several sections, beginning with Love’s proprietary Wild Game Fettine. It features a selection of choice cuts spit-roasted over open mesquite fire, such as Duck, Rabbit-Rattlesnake Sausage, Pistachios, and Quince; Elk, Pork Spinalis, Huckleberries, and Black Garlic; and Lamb, Quail, Texas Herbs, and Citrus-Chili Paste.
We’ve been here several times and it’s one of our favorites, but last night was a little disappointing. Two steaks were totally over cooked but the staff made it right.
This was our first time to visit the Lonesome Dove. We were celebrating our 23rd Anniversary. Our server Nathan was great, extremely knowledgeable about everything from wine to each dish. Nathan was attentive but now overbearing. The food was excellent, all 5 courses and the desert.
Exceptional food and outstanding service. Few if any places in Austin have such a professional and friendly waitstaff. I will be back for sure!
The paper menu feels more like a diner than a steakhouse. The waiter should make a recommendation on curated courses and the menu is confusing on how to order. The seafood and meat was not as good as a capital grille, Perry’s, or Ruth Chris. The lobster hush puppies , Fideo salad were amazing. My main course elk loin was not warm enough. The crust on the beef tenderloin was great however the jus had solidified and made the potatoes soggy
We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Lonesome Dove before going to see Hamilton. The food and service was outstanding. The menu offered interesting and unique selections spread out over several courses. We didn’t allow ourselves enough time to really savor everything because we were heading to a show (Shame on us). We will be back again and allow the time to relax and savor each offering.
Lovely farewell dinner on vacation in Austin. Food was imaginative and delicious. Enjoyed the evening.
Excellent experience. Folksy yet fine dining! The SMoked manhatten is a must as are the Lobster Hushpuppies. Dont go to a Perrys or Ruth Chris for a fancy night out in Austin! Hit this place- Steak was perfect and options were unique and interesting!
Such a great experience starting with the moment we walked in the door. My husband and I were greeted by staff at the host stand who quickly wished us a Happy Anniversary. Our waiter was personable and knowledgeable. He surprised us with a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary signed by the staff along with glasses of champagne. They sure did make us feel special. The food was fantastic as well as the ambiance. The presentation of my husband's old fashioned was on point! I would definitely go back.
Service was outstanding as always. Fettine trio was a great starter with a good variety of texture and flavors. All of our courses came out to temperature and perfectly seasoned. Also enjoyed the presentation of the Willie. If you like whiskey drinks, it is a must try.
We arrived at Lonesome 20 minutes late. The hostess told us that our reservations were cancelled due to our tardiness. She stated it’s policy after 15 minutes they cancel. I looked around the empty restaurant and requested her to reinstate us. She said she’d have to speak to the manager and wasn’t at all nice about it. She returned saying she could seat us but told us to not expect quick service because of the readjustment. Umm really? Our server was clearly not taking cues from the friendly hostess and quickly engaged us after being seated. He was a good server but things weren’t really up to par for what you’d expect for a thousand dollar meal for four people. Sommelier was also a tad cranky. How dare us request his expertise when spending five hundred on wine. He probably had to stay longer that evening cause of our tardiness. Will I return? Big fat no.
Excellent food for the more adventurous foodie. Presentation was spot on. Portions were good sized. Try the Fettine trio to really experience some meats you would never see prepared in other restaurants. The elk fois Gras sliders were delicious. I had the rabbit ravioli dish. Had a nice little spicy heat without compromising the flavors. My husband chose the Elk loin and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
We were visiting from Chicago and read about this place in several articles. Lucky for us, they were open this particular Sunday (normally they’re closed) due to MDW and had tables available!
Our waiter was great at explaining the dishes and each and every bite was amazing! We’ve already recommended it to several friends and family for their next visit to ATX and we are planning to return!
Awesome restaurant, food and drink were amazing. Tyson was an excellent server for our group.
Fantastic service and great food. Would highly recommend for special occasions. Elk sliders, garlic stuffed tenderloin, swordfish and tomahawk ribeye were all stand out dishes. Maybe the best service we have ever had.
Innovative menu and fabulous food. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Will make sure we visit again when next in the area.
Great food and ambiance. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Had an absolutely wonderful anniversary dinner. Food was great, drinks were great, service was excellent! I would definitely recommend Lonesome Dove and I can’t wait to return!
Trifecta - nailed the food, service and ambiance. Spend time "first course" try everything! Bite sized portion of the most amazing morsels! Burnt carrots amazing! Baby brussels among best ever. The Elk was perfection. Also must common on the smoked bourbon cocktail - have one!
I generally recommend Lonesome Dove, but sometimes the service is just terrible. On this occasion, they sat our 8-top in the bar area and we were ignored for 15 minutes at a time. I stopped eating my prime rib because my drink was empty and nobody was even checking on us. Great food, but poor service.
Love the game meats served at Lonesome Dove! Started with the dove, rabbit and rattlesnake fettine. Then had the wild boar meatballs and lobster hushpuppies. Yum! Hubby had Elk tenderloin and really enjoyed it. Our waitress was a delight and we really enjoyed her recommendations!
Really good, the waitress took good care of us with attention to detail
Lonesome Dove is a must when you are in Austin. Fantastic food. Great wine selection and singular cocktails. Also, make sure you stick around for dessert. Our waiter and sommelier were amazing. This was one of the best dining experiences of my life! Thank you for a great night!
Truly outstanding experience. I’ve eaten at the Lonesome Dove in Fort a worth as well as this location. Both are superb. The quality of ingredients and preparation are evident in each course. Truly worth the money. A great place to take out of state guests.
It was a little rocky as there was no hostess at first and came back in twice, but after we were seated it turned into an excellent experience. Tyson, our server, was amazing. We had a group of 6 and we were attended to with excellent service. Appreciate the plate ware, the plating, and all the food was delicious.
The best meal I had in Austin. The service was very good. The Elk-foie gras Sliders were good. One of my table mates said they were better than the stuffed poblano pepper entree. I had a butter lettuce salad that was better than average and their signature stuffed garlic tenderloin that was to die for. Finished off with their by the glass Syrah, the meal was very enjoyable. My tab with tax and tip came to $100. The only downside is the restaurant can be very noisy when it’s full and the booth we were in put a lot of space between the five of us so it was hard to have a conversation.
Wow..what a meal. Had a fun birthday celebration for my husband and the food was over the top and the staff was on top of everything from start to finish. We'll be back!
Food was not what Expected! I had the worse steak ever!
Clean modern enjoyable room, great service, delicious and interesting food choices. Tenderloin was excellent, salad super fresh, oyster first course pleasing, dessert delicious and right size. All in all a great place for an anniversary dinner.
We had a very nice dinner! Service was excellent and food was delicious!
Great cocktail choices!
We will definitely go back!
Once again this establishment rises above expectations. Hunter our server was on point with just the perfect level of engagement and attention. Chris, our Sommelier took us down an adventure with a wine I never would have selected but impressed and pleased my palette and those of my guests. We were checked-in with by 2 managers and our happiness with the meal was their mission. All the dishes were amazing with flavors and textures. Kudos to the kitchen staff. We were able to show our appreciation by buying them and Hunter a shot for their hard work! A function that is always forgotten is the Valet service. The young man manning the post tonight braved thunder, lightening, torrential rains and flooding to get our car safely parked and back to us. Of course we will return, how could we not!
We celebrated a birthday at Lonesome Dove on Friday. The oysters and stuffed crab appetizers were great! Our main entrees of Idaho trout and beef tenderloin were delicious. The lemon tart dessert was as beautiful as it was delicious. Our server, Hunter, was attentive and professional. This is a unique restaurant and we enjoyed it.
Phenomenal food. Creative and eclectic menu. Stellar service. Tried a bunch of things and it was all wonderful. Highly recommend.
Excellent restaurant in downtown Austin. We loved the food, service, and ambiance!
Really nice place, delicious meal, and great service
I went here with a bachelor party and this place was amazing. Crazy meat options that surpassed all of our expectations. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some unique food.
Great food and service. Unique menu.
Lonesome Dove is the total packages. Great Food, Service and Atmosphere. I really like how the first course options can be portioned for the number of people at the table so that everyone gets a bite! Favorite dishes: Hamichi toastadas, Lobster hushpuppies, Stuffed Tenderloin and the Trout!
Absolutely a wonderful meal. It should be on your bucket list.
Food and service were excellent. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. Would definitely recommend for any occasion.
