Esquire | Best New Restaurants 2023
James Beard Winner | Best Chef Southwest 2025
Phoenix New Times | Best Thai Restaurant 2023/2024

Lom Wong celebrates the diverse people and cultures of Thailand by cooking the types of food that one would find in villages and small towns across the different regions of the country. Additionally, we tell the stories of the amazing people who honored us teaching us their recipes. Our goal is to show another side of the cuisines of Thailand by being true to ingredients, techniques, and flavors. We hand-pound our curry paste, hand-squeeze coconut milk, and are sincere to the flavors Thailand. Additionally, we offer a fantastic natural wine list and cocktails that showcase unique Thai ingredients.

Lom Wong is run by Yotaka and Alex Martin.

Why they're an Icon

  • Award icon
    James Beard Award2025

From the OpenTable editors: James Beard Award-winning chef Yotaka Martin and her husband Alex showcase hyper-regional flavors of Yotaka's home country, Thailand, at this modern restaurant named a 2023 Best New Restaurant by Esquire. The Martins shy away from Americanized dishes like pad Thai, instead serving dishes like boo pad pong garee (stir-fried crab in a turmeric-rich curry) and naem khao tawt (crispy rice with cured pork sausage). Natural wines and tropical cocktails round out the transportive experience.

Experiences

  • Arai Kodai

    Multiple dates available
“Arai Kodai” roughly translates to “I’m down for whatever” and pays homage to the roots of our concept where we would host multi-course dinner parties in our living room without telling people what the menu would be. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore the cuisines of Thailand with us. These days we are able to customize the experience a bit, so if there is a dish you know you must have, or are allergic to something, we can cater to your party so you have the best possible experience! For parties of 5 and above, a large party gratuity of 22% will be added to the bill.

Everything was fantastic. Seated right away, server helped us decide on dishes and the food was the BEST Thai we have ever had. What a joy to have such authentic food. I can see why this restaurant won the James Beard award.

My fiancé and I were excited to try Lom Wong after the James Beard Awards were announced, but we were left disappointed with our experience. We opted to do Arai Kodai and had the restaurant build our meal, and we ordered a Thai tea and the pina colada cocktail. The Thai tea was the best thing we got. The naw tawt and yam mamuang boran were very average and mild in terms of actual flavor, but the texture of the next two items were just awful. The pork in the ba buey khlak ti was nearly inedible as half of it was slimy pork fat unrendered and the other half was so overcooked it was like chewing dry rocks of meat. We normally love crudos, but the hoi shae nam pla was disgusting. The texture was just awful. It was mushy and slimy and just overall inedible. The seafood crudos at Restaurant Progress or Shimogamo must have just raised my expectations too high. I can say that the rice with the curry was cooked well, but the curry sauce itself felt watery and like it needed to be reduced down for extra flavor. We also asked for spicy foods and I believe we ate a total of 1 Thai chili together, so there was next to no spiciness in our dishes. I want to end this by stating that the hostess who sat us said that she would be back to walk us through the food menu but she never returned. Our server then came and said, "Since you were walked through the menu, do you know what you would like to start with?" That tells me that the team doesn't really communicate with each other well. Also, once our dishes came out, we never saw our server again. We had to ask another person walking by our table for the check. Overall this was a really disappointing experience and we will likely never come back, we'll probably stick with Glai Baan for our Thai cravings moving forward.

Hi Sierra. Congratulations! You're the first person to do exactly what we expected after winning the James Beard Award. You came here not because you were interested in trying traditional Thai food, but to just say we weren't deserving of the award because you don't understand what traditional Thai cuisine is. Sounds like our concept isn't for you!

We had a great experience at Lom Wong. From being greeted to our goodbye, everything was stellar. We tried a bit of everything. The flavors were complex and excellent. Our party likes spicy foods so this hit the spot. Thanks for making it a fun night. We will definitely be back.

Phenomenal experience. Our group of eight was treated like royalty, there’s no other way to put it. The service was friendly and relaxed, but incredibly thoughtful and engaging. And the food was exceptional. We had so many dishes, all of them were so different, and all of them were incredibly delicious. We will be talking about this night for days.
